Just lost respect for the fanzine for adding the line about "it only being a chant"

its a fanzine FFS it has to be abut opinions. If the Shels fans are giving the right to reply I don't see the problem

I'm barred from relaying any quotes from the article itself but on receipt of advance copy i can confirm that the headline is Herald-esque & article seems fair & balanced.

Why was the article changed from the original to some sensationalist anti Shels crap then? Without so much as the decency to tell the writer who's article is printed under it.

The man has done more for our club then anyone else in the league
I'd argue against that - look at Doc O'Neill at UCD or Jim Rhatigan at Kilkenny for starters. They've done as much good as Ollie without thenegative associations. Ollie has been good and bad for Shels - his antics have been blamed for failing to secure bigger sponsorship on the back of last year's CL run, apparently - so he's an interesting character and fully suitable to an article in an Irish football fanzine.

While the title - and the changing of it - are dubious at best (and, it is important to note, have been apologised for; it is Troy's second attempt, so surely some slack should be given?), to decry the entire fanzine because of one article which most haven't read is nonsense, in my opinion. And talk of it being a "Cork fanzine" is nonsense - I'll add my weight to that as I did up the Cyprus match preview.

Sorry, we'll stick to saying everything is fine so will we? That way the league can stay exactly where it is, and watch clubs go bust again, watch fan numbers stay static etc etc  There are things CCFC, and indeed its fans, may be criticised for, but to criticise people for trying to move the league forward and professionalise it....... well it shows some people up for what they are
How the f**k does carrying out character assassinations on high profile individuals from other EL clubs 'move the league forward and professionalise it'.

If it wasnt for the Ollie Byrnes and Pat Devlins, Shels and Bray Wanderers would have gone to the wall ages ago. These two guys have done more for their respective clubs that any two other individuals you could name.

Does writing spurious articles about indivuduals like Ollie Byrne and Don Givens increase fan numbers at EL clubs, I doubt it!

Well said superhoops, I'm glad somebody agrees with us, I don't see how you don't find this offencive to Shels fans! As for it being balanced it says the good things, but then says but blah blah blah, as if to say the good doesn't count for anything!

Since when does being a shels fan mean you are automatically an Ollie fan. Is there no separation?

In order to stop the bloody annoying bickering can I suggest a Shels fan writes a balanced piece on the EL collusus that is Pat Dolan for the next edition.

I genuinely think this would make a good story if done in well, as there is a lot of positives but also a few genuine questions to be asked.

how unusual! Wonder where they got that from

In fairness eanna (and not taking a pop at you personally) but there no better than the cork web fans for getting their knickers in a twist over nothing

You're missing the point, we don't always agree with his behaviour, but a negitive article on him shows Shelbourne FC in a bad light, and in turn shows the league in a bad light, you have to remember around the barstoolers population Shelbourne are one of the better known EL teams!!!

Look it's out today, hopefully this thread will cause a few people to want a read

I'm sure it will tiktok ;) ;) ;)

So good news for Shels and Ollie then? ;)

To be honest I dont know where the association between this article, the Genesis Reporter and Devlin came from, he's not mentioned in the fanzine.

If you would like to write a piece about he has stayed with the cluub and kept them going, mail it to genesisreporter@yahoo.com and have it either 450 or 900 words long.

Somehow someway I just can't see that happening.

Well thats a shame, they've been around the block a good bit. If they dont want to be involved I cant force them. :o

Thats one view on it. My opinion is that people like this who have, undoubtedly, done great work for their clubs over the years, are now holding the league back, and making it look amateur. The greatest service those two individuals could do for their clubs and the league now is to step aside and
stop holding them back with their unprofessional behaviour. By all means commend them for their good work, but don't allow it to override other concerns.

afaik, its part of the deal. otherwise ollie will call round for a cuppa :D

It's true - I have my "living in denial" card to prove it.

Also because Shelbourne actually have no fans, you have to go thru a major existential journey before you can join our unique club.

I would guide you thru what this journey entails, but unfortunately as I do not exist, I can do no such thing.
