I know we all(well, most) want them to, but seriously, can Cork City get into the group stages of the Uefa cup?

Id nearly hope you lose because if you win I think it
might cost you the league. Its going to be so close at the end
that all the extra games might swing it Derry's way!
Even though i have nothing against Derry I think Cork and especially
Damien need the league more!

we'll do it i think
this group of players are winners and the european arena is their stage, they were born to play in europe

which one is that sligoman? has to be europe all the way...

but how many times have i heard people say dont listen to the media or we can do it, we will win, not thinking about stats or anything like that, just rolling off their tongue their hearts hope, only to get egg on their faces as usual.

This is a team that CCFC can defintely beat. Cork have a lot of things in their favour,

The mentality of the team is right and so is the planning and preperation. Cork play good football and there is no substitute for playing football. They are top of the league. The away game is first. Slavia Praha are mid table at the moment and have got off to a mediocre start.

There isnt really anything that stands out as a major concern for CCFC (unlike Shels) and if they go and play like they can then they can defintely get through.

which one is that sligoman? has to be europe all the way...It has to be the league. I mean, unless you get really far in Europe then there's no point cos you still win nothing. Do well at home and you win the league and end the season with a trophy ;). Europe is a bonus, a lucrative one, but a bonus nonetheless!

For gods sake, born to play in Europe??? You do realise that they haven't a pigs ears chance of winning it don't you??? If Cork win the UEFA Cup I'll wear a Cork City jersey and one of Peadar's pink shirts!!!

Just take it one game at a time there, its far too easy to get carried away at this stage, remember we were in the same position last year!!! Just don't get too cocky!!!

To aswer the question, I don't know if they can do it, but I do hope so!

Play like they did last night only with a bit more cutting edge up front and they can and will do it.

I know it's something you wouldn't want to say, but if Doyle was playing last night, Cork would have won by two clear goals. I hope O'Flynn is back to his best by the time this comes around.

I think he might have been on about winning the first round ... not the actual cup. Even we know that that is not a given ..... note that i'm not ruling it out either.

I do believe they could do it ,but more power up front is needed.I couldnt help but think if Kevin Doyle even stayed till the end of the season would we of got atleast 2 goals last night?

I dont think cork will win this tie but do believe they can win their home game!
Shelbourne played Lille last year and did very well and S. Praha arnt in any way as good as Lille so Cork do have a great chance but I cant see this happening :( I hope I am so terribly wrong

i hope you are wrong as well. They are one of the weakest sides we could have been paired with. We're underdogs but we have good chance of making the group stage. As some1 said before we need more a cutting edge up front.we still haven't scored at home in europe. :(

It was an away match and apparently it was very contraversial,Slavia took the lead in the 1st half and comin up to half-time were lookin comfortable, then the fourth official signalled 3 minutes of injury-time and in the 4th minute of it olomouc scored.
From what i gather the player handled the ball and shot but the ball wasnt even over the line anyway(setanta cup?),the ref let it stand though, slavia had 4 players booked in the incident and it went downhill for them in the 2nd half, more of the same please!!! :D

OLOMOUC - Slavia lost the away match of the fourth round in Olomouc 3-4. The early opener was scored in the sixth minute by Karel Pitak who played in the attack alongside Stanislav Vlcek. Pitak managed to nutmeg the keeper Lovasik. Slavia then dominated the game and had clear chances to score, especially in 41st minute when Svento provided a great pass to Krajcik, whose shot hit the crossbar. Also Pitak´s spectacular scissors kick from six-yard box deserved the second. The end of the first half brought very controversial moments. First it should have ended as the referee announced only three minutes of the added time, but neverthless in the fourth minute the home side attacked and though Rojka played clearly the ball with his hand and the ball was outside the line, Melinho´s goal stood. Slavia players picked up four yellow cards after the goal.http://www.slavia.cz/index_en.asp

letting 4 goals in is a disgrace !

Not clear if it means the ball was over the end-line or the goal-line but since weve experience of the latter we'll stick with that!

I think Cork are capable of doing it, but whether they will or not is another story. It will be really tough and Slavia will be no mugs, so lets hope they can make the breakthrough!

well like most i agree that they can do it but not sure if they will , having said that if djurgardens had snatched a 90th minute winner against cork then people wouldnt be talking about a sure thing slavia prague win.

I think we can do it, I just wonder if its not a year too early for us to make the group stages. I'm confident going to Prague, and I think we'll do it, just about, on away goals probably. But part of me wants us to bow out at this stage, because I think if we get to the groups, it will severley damage our chances of winning the title, and thats the most important thing

Hard to know really, I don't think they will but they've a good shot at it if you know what I mean. A narrow defeat would be my forecast but wouldn't be totally shocked if they did it. It would almost certainly harm them domestically this season but would be a real boost for future years.

We are now 211 minutes without a goal.
We're doomed.

The fact that the away leg is first gives them some hope. A goal out there and you never know. But having seen Slovan Liberec up close twice they are technically very gifted so...........

What is troubling is that cork's 2 league fixtures around the Slavia games have apparently been called off. IMO this is an absolute disgrace and this isnt an anti cork jibe. Shels too should have played Harps in between the Steaua games.

There is NO excuse as both teams have large squads and are full time professionals. I feel sorry for the clubs with no games as they will lose out as the refixed games will take place midweek in front of a reduced crowd.

No other league would tolerate this rubbish. Imagine in england a club calling off league fixtures just because they are in europe? Preposterous.

Hopefully Irish clubs will continue to do well in Europe in the coming seasons but does this mean we can call a halt to the league just cos the league administrators are a joke?

Shels too should have played Harps in between the Steaua games.Well in fairness, the Longford game has just been moved back a day from the Saturday to the Sunday, but thats the reality of a league which plays its games on a Friday night. If we're playing on a thursday in Prague, you can't expect us to play on Friday back in Ireland, surely! I agree its messy, and the only thing it leads to is fixture congestion, but I don't see how it can be sorted any better. Suggestions?

Ah well that makes sense then but why not play the other game on a sunday too? Friday night is not compulsory!
