Nope, ever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_verified_oldest_men).

Just not the oldest person ever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_verified_oldest_people).

That last list shows there are just (still?) two people alive from the 19th century.

I had actually read Osa's post as if it said person and not man, the sexist I am. And I still replied to it ars£ways.

Sorry I'm going to hijack this thread to mark the sad and tragic passing of one of the nicest young people you could ever have had the fortune to meet, one of the very few friends I've made in this country and at 30 years of age taken from us so tragically.

I was listening to this when I heard the news today so it's appropriate to link it.

Rest in Peace Stephen.

Those born in the stone age might remember Mike Winters (right) of Mike and Bernie Winters fame (the poor man's Morcombe & Wise). When Eric Morcombe was once asked when they would have done if they flopped in show business, he replied "we'd have been Mike and Bernie Winters".

I never heard of Mike, but I saw Bernie in Panto years ago (he was quite funny). It was a lifetime ago and his co-star was Juicy Lucy Melissa Bell from neighbours. I know a lad I worked with was nuts about her and tried to claim he met her, I pulled him up on it one evening over beers and reminded him that when he was a pasty faced intern I told him the story of how I met her - in front of colleagues - and he was ashamed.

She was born the same day as me but a year before. Wasn't what I'd imagined she'd be.

I had the privilege of seeing him twice in recent years, reading in the NCH and in St Anne's on Dawson St, being interviewed for RTE radio. In the NCH -fully sold out, maybe 1,200 seats - he didn't realise until halfway through that there were people in the choirloft behind the stage who could only see his back. He was genuinely humbled and taken aback that people would put up with that just to hear him. So he turned the mike twice during the remainder of the reading and read two or three poems specially for them.

An extraordinary man, with a mesmerising delivery. I'll read some of his poems tonight before turning in, a small tribute, but fitting.

Thought someone would have posted up the news of Tommy (Gunn) Morrison's death. Ended up a sad kind of story despite all his promise. Remember watching some of his early fights on eurosport and then his destruction by Ray Mercer (the still photos of his last moments were horrific). Probably most famous for being the git in Rocky V, but a genuinely good fighter, decent chin, but the hype took over early. RIP.

Tom Clancy passed away. Was shocked to read he was only 66. for some reason I took him to be much older. While some of his politics were teeth suckingly scary, he created one of the real heroes of our time, Jack Ryan. And his book, Red Storm Rising, felt so realistic back in 1996 that it almost felt like it was happening with each page turned.
