No one ever talks about the Happy Fridays. But they do the Happy Mondays :D

Fridays tend to be a rubbish day in terms of media activity/attention anyway. It's seriously no big deal to wait another 3 days. I'm just amazed they're due to come out this early.

They're generally released soon after the licences are issued, so no surprise really.

It does tend to be a week or two before Christmas when they are released.

Pretty much the ideal opener for Kerry, in that a home Munster derby should guarantee a bumper crowd.

Should be a bumper crowd in Finn Park for that opener.

There'll be sellouts in Cork, Inchicore and possibly Sligo on the opening night too you’d imagine

Has it been confirmed that the first division will be four rounds of nine matches? That would make things very tight at the back-end of the season, if the play-off format is staying the same

culloty82
12/12/2022, 11:38 AM
That'll be known in another 72 hours ...

Yip it's definitely a 36 game season.....

Probably could have done without a first match against a newly promoted Cork in Turner's cross. It'll be hopping which can only help them.

Bizarrely, the St Patrick's Day fixtures have been released today - Round 6 for Premier Division clubs, but only Round 5 for First Division teams for reasons unknown?

That indicates that there will be a midweek round of fixtures in the Premier Division between weeks 1 and 6. I assume the First Division will catch up on that during the international window which the Premier Division has no games during

Hopefully not unless it has a full upgrade in quality!
So many complaints especially around no service available after payments were made.........?
At this stage the FAI should have a real TV contract in place that includes one live game a week through the whole season, with a further highlights package of the remaining games!
We live in hope! :embarrassed:

Cnant disagree with the aspiration but i woud be really dissapointed if it isnt back.
Even with the issues if you cant get to a lot of away matches its better than nothing

Yeah there's no chance I would be able to travel to Cork, Derry or Sligo unless it was an early kick off on a weekend or Bank Holiday so I would really miss it if it disappeared.

It's not bizarre if you believe it's the one set of fixtures where they have deliberately manufactured all the pairings colectively (there's no way the computer magically spat out that combination). It looks like they're going down the route of derbies for Paddy's Day - which would make sense. I've been an advocate of this for some time, and would actually do it every year and hope it becomes an established thing (like Boxing Day/St Stephen's Day in the North). Not sure why they didn't make it Rovers-Bohs though (unless they think that will draw a sell-out crowd anyway as a stand alone event) ? And I'd have made Drogs-Dundalk at Oriel Park. That way the full combination of fixtures would maximise the attendances for the day across the league.

Hopefully they'll now do some actual marketing about live football for St Patrick's Day around this, as otherwise why bother manufacturing the derbies on that date ?

Both the Dublin derby and the Louth derby will occur after the mid-season break, but no really outstanding First Division fixture (unless you count the Munster head-to-head):

One teaser, fine. But it's three now, I think?

This random gradual publishing of some of these fixtures is one of the dumbest ideas out of alot bad LOI ideas I've seen over the years, clearly thought up by some tone deaf social media marketing guru with no background in football, imagine the carnage if the Premier League did something similar!

The fixtures are compiled stop arsing about and upload the PDF on the LOI website

Worse still, the LOI website isn't actually functioning now, unless they've moved it to a new address?

Think Culloty I seen it somewhere that the LOI website is being revamped for new season. Thats what I heard!

It's got a 'coming soon' type holding page on it. Which you think they;d have sorted by the time the fixtures were announced.

The whole thing is weird. Maybe they'll move on to a You Tube unboxing of each week's individual fixtures next. Or cryptic clues so we have to guess the opponents for each week.

The full schedule has been released, but as the website isn't working, it's up to each individual club to announce their own fixtures. We do know that the FAI Cup Final will be on November 12th, and the promotion/relegation playoffs will follow the same format as this year.

They can hardly have been randomised and thrown up Treaty as the second home fixture to follow Cobh? Anyway, there'll be no excuses for early attendances even purely on match day sales.

Haven’t seen anything from the FAI on the league cup other than the original ‘postponed until further notice’ stuff. The LSC is nothing to do with the FAI though, it’s run by the Leinster FA and I believe this season's competition is underway already, LOI clubs usually join in the 4th round so it’s unclear if they are or aren’t still involved but we'll soon find out I guess but there’s no rush

The women's fixtures mentions a league cup and FAI cup dates specifically. The mens fixtures only mention FAI Cup. Looks like no league cup this year

In the First Division, the 3 rounds on a Monday are on Bank Holidays. Seems to be sensible scheduling.
The 4 teams in Europe will play against each other in Round 24 on Monday May 15th, between rounds 15 and 16. They will also play against each other in Round 25 on Monday June 26th, between rounds 21 and 22. Seems to be sensible enough scheduling as well to be fair.

The women's fixtures mentions a league cup and FAI cup dates specifically. The mens fixtures only mention FAI Cup. Looks like no league cup this year
The UEFA qualifying rounds in the summer and the start of the FAI Cup has the schedule from summer onwards full as it is. For the League Cup to return, clubs would have to see value in extra Monday night fixtures.
Feb 20
Mar 13
Apr 17
May 8
These are 4 Mondays that could suit the League Cup. Feb 20 because teams are not playing on the Monday before or after. On Mar 13, Apr 17 and May 8; Premier clubs will have played on the preceding Monday. First Division clubs on the preceding Monday of May 8. Clubs could utilise their squads when playing a League Cup round, in what is their second Monday is succession.
The League Cup currently would require at least 5 rounds. Clubs would probably want to be confident of crowds before adding extra Monday fixtures. The regional pools, as used previously, but up to and including the quarter-finals, could help boost crowds for the earlier rounds. The semi-finals and final would naturally attract crowds. Again, only something to be considered if clubs see a viable benefit from it.

Not really IMO, mid week games with not great attendances and possible long away trips for regional and smaller clubs if they progress passed opening round or two. Not what most clubs would want with the current economic climate
