Old Bridge 2-1 St. Kevins Boys

I don't quite believe it myself but the Bridge are in the last 16 and now have a home tie against Clonmel Town. This was a game of very poor quality but was entertaining if only for the rubbish defences on display.
Tipp Man all of us from the Southeast know who you are as you were a regular visitor to the Clonmel Town message board and as you did on that you are doing the same here talking rubbish as always. As Shovels OBFC said The Bridge are no world beaters and don't have much fitness but they are shown something most teams don't have and that is a bit of heart. Don't know what rubbish defences you were on about in our game against Kevin's Boy's last weekend. The Bridge defended very well and held out the top scorerer in the AUL Gavin Quinn. If you were at the game you would also noticed that The Bridge keeper didn't have one big save to make so obviously The Bridge defence and midfield done their jobs.

I agree that he is tough as fcuk! Wouldn't fancy meetin him down a dark alley!!, just haven't seen him hold the ball up well in any game i've seen. I may be wrong as i obviously have only been to 4 or 5 Town games this season.
As regards the bridge game, everything suggests that ye'll wallop us by 4 or 5. Fitness wise we are definately lacking as you may have seen in the last 20 against Kevins and so i'd say tightning the pitch is something we'll be looking at!!! Great hype about the game already though and that can only be a good thing
Ata boy Shovels your a legend. I agree with you that Coady and McHugh are not great up front for town. Town only have 3 good players Barnesie, Tony and Paul Scully. If The Bridge can keep them quite they have a big chance. I would say The Bridge will tighten the pitch for the Town game which would limit Town to play football and as we saw Kevin's Boys couldn't play football on that pitch last week so can't see Town doing it either. Town asked for the game to be switched to the complex but The Bridge obviously said no way so I think Town could be a bit worried about the pitch Sunday week.

I'd have to agree with you there, i reckon the winner will come from the Carrick/Pike last 16 game. Whoever has the bottle to get through that tie will take some stopping. Carrick are my bet though. Westport should take Killester out especially if they are as below strength as was previously mentioned.

Lads, there are definitely a few strong sides in the mix, when two big guns go out at the next round (pike/carrick/coveys/killester) it'll be very clear who'll have the best chance.

Much as I hate to say it Castlebar have to be fancied, they are on some run (21 games unbeaten in League, Cups, Conn Cup, FAI), they have very skillful players in the front six, a rock solid back four (with Dykes the heart of it), and a seriously good keeper. If they don't get too many injuries they will take some beating.

I'm off to wash my hands with acid after typing that sacrelige!

I dont support any team that is left in the FAI but obviously would like to see the Limerick teams do well.

All I'm saying is (having played against them in the last round) Portmarnock have their work cut out if they are to beat Dungarvan in Waterford.

Thunderblaster will you for God's sake stop this charade in trying to pretend you are not from Westport. Most, if not all, of the Mayo posters know who you are so could you just not lie through your teeth with stuff like 'I was visiting Westport today on business and the locals said they have a load of injuries' or the above quote.
I didn't realise covies were so keen on trying to lose that moniker by pretending they are from somewhere else.
Sorry mod if this seems like a personal attack but I'm just fed up with this nonesense

Tipp Man please accept my humblest apologies I was mis-informed on your idenitity sorry again. I would say that you are right to your opinions but I think you are been very hard on Old Bridge in a few of your comments. I know the game wasn't pretty last week vs Kevin's but you have to admit The Bridge battled strong. Do you give them any hope vs Town??

What I said was "I would like to see the Limerick teams do well" that doesn't necessarily mean I think they all will.

In my opinion I THINK Ballyheane will beat UL/AA, but I HOPE they don't.

Of course I give the Bridge a chance. I think the Bridge will score at some stage in the game and so the timing of that goal will be crucial. Town have a few weak spots. In the game against Tralee they missed Stanley at left back; this had the effect of curtailing Burns on the left as he spent too much time tracking back to cover Blanche who looked tired and slow. No offence to Blanch as he has been a great servant to the club; its just that they won't allow him to retire. As had been said earlier, Town lack punch up front. Although McHugh ended his drought on Sunday it was against Goolscross and he has yet to really perform in a big game this year (the league win in Cooke Park is an exception).

Town will over-run midfield and so the Bridge should negate that by playing long balls in an attempt to by-pass midfield. I know the purists at Green Lane will hate that but you have to play against what is in front of you and to give the Bridge any chance, they have to take Town's strength in midfield out of the equation.

Lastly, and apologies for going on so long, but Town will remember last year and will get at the Bridge from the first minute. If the Bridge weather the initial storm, put themselves about a bit and rattle Town then who knows.

After all that, would I put a tenner on the Bridge? No bloody way.

I'd have to fancy carrick against pike with home advantage. Is going to be a tough game. Both sides can mix it up

Two years ago Pyke came to Coolnamuck to play Carrick in the Munster Senior Cup semi-final and they kicked lumps out of the Carrick lads. What will be remembered in Carrick was the fact that Carrick had an FAI Junior Cup final only six days later and it was felt by many that Pyke deliberatly went out to take a few guys out of the final 6 days later. Incidentally, Carrick won that Senior semi-final and lost the final to Cork City. Their midfielder, Goggs wasn't fully fit for the FAI Junior final having been kicked around the park by Pyke. I'd love to see Carrick win this tie; just don't expect a classic as there is some history here and it could get a little heated.

The only team pike would have been doing a favour for was ye, they would not want fairview to win the FAI believe me. Fairview and pike is arguably the biggest rivalry in junior soccer over the last 40 years. Pike are a physical side and will probably do the very same to ye again. They kicked ballymun off the field last weekend.

As I have said before, I just enjoy watching football in south tipp and have no affiliations. Looking forward to the Carrick v Pike game even more now. I hope the Carrick lads read your posts. the carrick game was in the munster junior cup, all the same the crystal seem to have hit a bad patch at the wrong time, losing to dungarvan last week or the week b4 at home and now to go down heavy to carrick, confidence must be low,i thought ye said pike kicked lumps outa carrick last time too....did carrick not win the game all the same? and i believe carrick are only after gettin stronger since then! just an opinion now men. Carrick are favourites and rightly so probably the best footballing team in the competition at he moment :D

Heard this morning that Carew have lodged an objection against their defeat to Castlebar Celtic. The objection I've heard is based on a rule stating that only 4 ec-League of Ireland players may line out in the Junior Cup and Castlebar seemingly fielded 5!? Anyone know if this is true or anything of the rule?

Might as well state from the start that I'm a Covey. We've got Killester coming to town next weekend and if anyone from Killester FC need tips or help re their trip to 'The Port' drop me a line. I'll be more than happy to repay the hospitality show to us in Killester ast year.

What sort of a match do ye expect? I heard from some Westport supporters that they considered Killester the best team to play ye last year. Would you agree with that? How are ye fixed for injuries etc? All the best anyway, hope ye do it
