Which entirely proves my point.
Longford under Matthews have no ambition, no belief and are satisifed with mid-table mediocrity. And he has convinced most of the Longford support that that is the best they can hope for.
Put it into context. Satisfied with mid-table but there's nothing mediocre about being in the last four cup finals and taking three of them. Nor is there in having only been promoted after an eternity in Div1 only 5/6 years ago. Many of our equivalents have been division yo-yo's where we haven't. We've kept the club financially stable (to the best of my knowledge). You're judging the progress of the club with the big history/money/support clubs like yourselves. In terms of the development of LTFC as a sucessful title-contending club there is nothing to suggest we are not on track. We have never been as successful as we have under Matthews. Matthew's doesn't need to convinvce me on what we can hope for. All i need to do is look at the current situation as described above to decide what, at any one time, is a reasonable and acceptable performance from the team.

It's realism ffs. Midtable is good for us given our budget/ status. If we're best of the mostly part time teams then that is good, if we finish above any of the full time/ virtually full time teams then that is excellent. I suppose if he had any ambition we'd have a few trophies from his reign....

Ok Ok I give up.
Matthews is the greatest manager of all time, he is doing a superb job, your club is great, you play fantastic football, and I am heartily sorry for having taken the name of Longford in vain.
(outside of that, Longford played god awful, ambitionless, boring crap last Friday night ;) )

Longford played some great stuff lastnight - a big physical team who arent afraid to get stuck in, but they actually played some great football on the deck.
It really was a great game to watch being honest.
They were very unlucky not to leave tolka with all 3 points - lady luck just wasnt with them, on another night they couldve won by a couple of goals

We play plenty of good football during the season just not in Cork. I dont know why. We played lots of it last night. Fair enough some nights we have an off night and it's poor but you cant say that's the case every week. Cosmo has no reason to be lying to you, we did play very well and it was good football too last night and we deserved something from the game.

Last night was a great game. Longford attacked Shels from the start and were really unlucky to lose the game. Had they a better striker than Myler, I think they would have won.

Or had we a worse keeper than Delaney, who was outstanding. Williams will be doing well to get his place back.
It helped Longford greatly that Shels were so poor however.

OK, you play good football....but NEVER against City. Longford always seem to play for a draw and are always very negative against us.
I expect though that you will have to come out and play for the League Cup game????

Were aiming to win 1-0...on penos!
our 3-0 win in Waterford was crap.
I was actually at that game in Waterford (strangely enough!) and it was rubbish, one of the worst el premier games I've EVER seen.
Longford were dire and Waterford were even worse.
The crowd and atmosphere in the RSC were dreadful too, the place was like a morgue. You'd be amazed at how the place is transformed when we go down there.... I think you'd call it the Rebel Army effect!
Were aiming to win 1-0...on penos!
I can actually hear Matthews trying to beat that result into his team....

think the (needless) longford bashing has gone far enough guys,
we (town supporters)don't need to apologise to anybody out there.
this thread has gotten out of hand imo.
Oh my God
Why cant Alan Matthews and his little Longford Town team play like that from day one. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind we are a match for anyone in this lge.All I want and EXPECT from my team is to put in a major effort which is what we got from them last night.Ok we didnt get th points but at least we made a real fist of it.All I want from Matthews is to go out to every pitch in the country with that attitude and not the attitude that we are nobodies when it comes to teams like shels and cork. My motto is If you aim for the stars you will reach the clouds. Its ambition as I continually mention that has got this club where they are today. Its the first really decent performance of the season lets hope they keep it up.

get over it lads.
Why do we whinge so much in cork?
If we want to win leagues we have to be prepared for teams coming to the cross playing for a point, and we have to learn to beat them. Quite simply it's the hallmark of every winning team. Why should longford play a style of game when they play us that suits us more than them? They're not playing to win the league, and in the EL if that's the case then you are always looking over your shoulder at the relegation zone.
I applaud everything they have achieved in the last 5 years. They're a miniscule club compared to ourselves, and with much smaller resources. They're entitled to play the sensible game on and off the pitch.
We, as top of the league, are there to be beaten, and teams like longford are there to beat. If we can't do it we don't deserve top spot. And i'll just point out that we've already drawn with ucd and bray at home this year, and lost to drogheda.
Quit harking on about how talented a team we are, and learn to eake out the 1 nil win.
get over it lads.
Why do we whinge so much in cork?
Who is whinging?
Is it not allowed to point out the the FACT that Longford played dreadful, negative football the other night?
Longford fans comeback is to say that we are whinging, because they don't want to face the FACT that their team were absolute sh*te on Friday night, did not play football and had absolutely no ambition to try to get 3 points.
Being called a whinger in this case simply means that you can't come up with any cogent argument to disprove what has been said by some City fans, so just fling some insults and derision instead...

Branding us as sh!te on the basis of one match which, depending on your viewpoint, did not necessarily show a poor performance simply means your argument is equally invalid.
Given the above poster's use of 'we', it's clearly not just (some) LTFC fans calling you a whinger.

I have REPEATEDLY mentioned FRIDAY NIGHT'S GAME, and GAMES AGAINST CORK CITY.
What part of that could you not read?
On top of that, you STILL HAVE NOT come up with any argument to disprove my point, so just fling "whinger" at me again, I'm really convinced by that excellent point...

Firstly, Don't be so patronising. Secondly, relax or you'll have a hernia.
You're reiterating my point anyway. I was implying that you were generalising the standard of management and the style of play at Longford on the basis of one match. OK, I'll give you the other Cork City ones. Still doesn't form much of a basis for gross generalisation.
On top of that, you STILL HAVE NOT come up with any argument to disprove my point, so just fling "whinger" at me again, I'm really convinced by that excellent point...

yes indeed i'm a city fan.
it's not a 'fact' but rather an 'opinion'. which you're entitled to of course.
I didn't call you a whinger personally, but instead the general tone of the posts berrating longford for playing for the point instead of playing gung ho.
I stand by everything i said. and i don't thin in light of what has been written about longford, it can be called insulting or derisory.

Shock horror a team goes to the league leaders home ground and plays for a point! you can just see the headlines now.I think it's a disgrace that we went down to the cross with a game plan of not to lose the game and it worked. What was matthews thinking,it's complete madness.I mean to go to the ground of the league leaders where we have not had a positive result for a long time and avoid being beat at all costs is just mad.Does the man who manages a part time team who are back to back FAI cup winners and league cup winners not realise that to employ frustrating tactics against a superior team of full timers who have won nothing for ages may just annoy their extremely big headed know it all fans.I for one must apologise to all Cork people who have taken offence by tactics employed against your team to achieve a result. It is clearly obvious that results only appear to matter to other people.Maybe that's why your team has nothing for ages.
Longford played sh*te football. FULL STOP.
To say that, is not an attack on
the club or
it's fans, or
to comment on the progress of the club & how it was built up or
where it stands to today.
It means exactly what is written. They played sh*te football, if it could be called footballt.
All the Longford fans getting up on their high horses about this would want to cop themselves on. Deal with the point, and when you can't do that, don't go flinging whinger at someone when you can't think of anything else to say.
Longford EVERY time I've seen them, play dreadful, negative football under their present manager. They do it all the time against City, it's dire to watch, but bold, bold me for mentioning that FACT, I shouldn't be upsetting all the poor deluded Longford fans......:D

Lets not get anti-Longford here. Over the last five or six years, Longford have been one of the most progressive clubs in the league, a club that we get on with very well and one that plays positive, neat football. In fact, they have been notable for their short-passing, skillful approach while we were humping long balls to small forwards who used to be, or were thought to be, fast. Not so much has changed, and I don't see why Angry Patsh - he's always angry, it seems, and lashes out wildly - sees this performance as different, nor why its such an issue. that we drew a home game. An organised team with mid-table potential and a capable coach came to the Cross and got a draw. Cork played well but couldn't quite make the last pass or connection tell. Why the anger? Whats this campaign to hate Longford? Forgive my innocence, but I like Longford, I like when they come to Cork, and all they stand for in the campaign to have a truly NATIONAL league. We could have won the game five-nil but it didn't happen due to shortcomings in the Cork team...Duh...is this the wrong thread to mention that we need a forward who scores goals?

Just because some wum like you can't actually read, it doesn't make me angry, anti-Longford or in any way dismissive of the club.
Never let whats actually written get in the way of one of your rants though, it hasn't before.

Secondly, i never called him a whinger. i merely posted a rhetorical question.
I didn't realise it was forbidden to express an opinion (constructively made in my first post which was then misread and dismissed by others) which goes against the mob rule.
