Longford: I would not want to be associated with this team

Just want to saay that tonight's "performance" (and I use the term liberally) by Longford was possibly the worst effort of football I have seen at The Cross in 25 years - no exageration. .... and I have seen a pathetic Galway and diabolic Kilkenny in the last 2 weeks - not to mind Dundrum "something" or other other a few years ago.

Devine had NOTHING to do in this game.

Longford were awfull. It was like kids "line the goal". It is no wonder that our League is in the state it's in when only a handfull of clubs (City, Shels, Bohs) make any effort to entertain the public!!!!

    The public deserve better.

Good luck Digger - the only bright spot in and pathetic team!

p.s. I always had a soft spot for Longford - but after tonight, I hope they go the waay of Limerick, Ramblers etc and are banished to Div 1 and oblivium.

Mathews - you have pushed the League back 10n years with your negative, boring tactics - you are up ther with that muppet Brian Kerr (another Dub).

Jeez....... Some of ye Cork boy's get very cocky when yer top of the league for a couple of weeks.............
It's not as if ye play total football, what have ye won lately????
And don't start saying you'd rather play good football and win nothing than play crap and win three cups in two years.......
Don't judge us by one performance, we're playing ok lately. Listened to the game last night and the commentators said we played allright, but you'd know better i suppose........

Last night was dreadful from a Longford perspective.........even Galway and Kilkenny TRIED to play and ventured into our half a few times in the second half.

Longford made NO effort what so ever.............abysmal.

Oh yeahand as for your support..........sweet Jesus, even UCD brought more to the Cross.

I saw 1 supporter in The Horseshoe beforehand. The "away" section was COMPLETELY empty!!!!!!!

A very frustrating evening Crow. But teams will come for a point.
But in fairness while we did create chances in the 2nd half Digger had nothing to do. Someone would want to teach Keegan the offside rule, the perfect teachers would be the Longford back 10.
Gamble was being out muscled by a very physical Longford midfield, George was missing for a good piece of the game and if he wasn't missing he was getting in the way. He should have done better in stoppage time.
O'Flynn is showing no sign of improvement with matches. We desperately need a striker or 2. Kearney & Fenn played well, Roy wasn't great either and wasted a lot of ball trying fancy stuff when the simple ball would have sufficed. Another clean sheet (not hard last night) and some good attacking football, we just need someone who can finish.

you expected to win and only got a draw.

Cork is a long trip to make on a Friday when most people are working, hence the lack of away support. Didn't ye have the Longford games on a saturday last season, why the change, does it suit the Cork fans more on a Friday?

    Spot on Crow.
To see that pr*ck Matthews absolutley thrilled with a nil all draw last night.....

Longford fans, the height of your manager's ambition is a nil all draw.

Alan Kirby was the ONLY Longford player who seems to have ever heard of football, the rest seem to play some sort of mix of hoofball and head tennis.

Hard to believe we didn't win this game by 4 or 5, so we only have ourselves to blame. Longford fans are going to defend this rubbish of course, blather on about their cups, but the kind of sh*te that Longford "play" will just turn more and more people off the eL and gives the barstoolers all the ammunition they need.

Matthews ideal season seems to be finish mid table with 33 points from 33 games, goals scored zero, goals conceded zero...

To more pressing problems. We are not going to do much in this league if we can't convert 2 or 3 chances out of 10 - 12?...
The game should have been over after 30 minutes, we wouldn't have been flattered to be 4 up at that stage. Instead not a solitary goal. Rico has said he is doing it, but this has to be sorted fast.
Is Grant the answer to our finishing problems that Razor has so accurately summarised?

I don't understand why people are surprised by Longford's performance last night. Longford for the past 3-4 seasons (and probably before that as well) have been playing the most unattractive brand of football in the Eircom League. No flair and no sense of adventure. It's a case of clearing your lines and hopefully it will hit one of our forwards on the head and bounce in.

Thats why they win so many cups. They go out and play like that, take the game to a replay and basically just wear the other team down.

All in all, Longford are boring to watch.

    Rant Over.

It just shows you one thing that Alan Matthews and 99% of the longford town fans dont have a clue about football.I completely agree with you guys.Ever since Matthews took over all we have done is hoof the ball. Its dire to watch. The man has no common sense whatsoever. We will always be a midtable team with that donkey at the helm. Our average attendance a game is 700-900 max which is a far cry from the days of the promotion year.Noone in town seems to have any interest anymore since Matthews took over. While the town fans and general public are happy with mediocity things simply wont change.Tbh i cant blame ppl for not coming out to flancare to watch us we are absolutely dire to watch.I am a really big town fan but as things stand I and watever else is going to plod along each week is all that is going to be out there each week. The funny thing is Matthews said in the irishh independent that "mid table and a few cups was a good Season".What a complete and utter w@nker. What sort of ambition is that. With Kenny and his bunch of no hopers in 2001 ambition and hard work got us to where we are now all we seem to be happy with is taking part.

I have to agree Longford are not doing the league any favours. No wonder theres such low crowds in one of the better Stadiums in the country and dont blame Rovers or location.Their only holding players like Dillon and Paisly back.

When we played Longford up in flancare earlier in this season they came at us a bit and very unlucky to loose on the night, what the fcuk were they afraid of?

With all respect city are a good side, but if you play in the same division as us you should be a bit more attack minded. We are not brazil

They have excellent players but they aren't taking it to the next level. Cup football is not going to give you success every year.

Players like Myler, Kirby, Barrett etc. are all excellent forward players but whatever way they play it doesnt exploit their strengths.

Remember 2 seasons ago when they nearly signed George. We could be like they are now if that happened.

He's just a knob who has a personal problem with Alan Matthews. It's nothing to do with how the town plays. If Town won the Champions League he'd still have problem with Matthews. Maybe he turned him down for a loan or something

Cork are one of the favourites for the league. They're going to have teams playing for draw. You should be analysing why you can't break teams down, rather than having a go at teams for not playing into your hands.

Pathetic whingers, who spit the dummy when you don't win.

    Not all of us, Macy.
I agree that we should be concentrating on breaking teams down, I mean it isn't a new phenomenon teams coming to the Cross and playing for a draw. its been happening for years. An early goal I feel makes all the difference. Our lads did try and try but i felt too many had off nights. i was half afraid ye might nick one in the end.
