Couldn’t see a thread for this kid, so thought I’d give him a mention as one for the future after scoring tonight for Peterborough to take their winning streak to 6 on the row, with four goals in their last 3, to take them up to second. Will hopefully see him in the championship next year.

Had a feeling this kid might have a bit about him after hearing he’d banged two against the senior team in the closed door friendly. Good grounding coming through the Chelsea academy, happy to go down the divisions to learn his trade with 100+ appearances at Barnet and obviously rated for a conference player to go for £500K, rising to a £1m.

Tall at 6ft 1, an all rounder and only 21, who sounds like he’s making a good impression from the fans, as per the below - let’s hope we’ve got a future Matty Holland / Kinsella on our hands...

Yeah, watch them the odd time, he is doing well. But so did Chris Forrester initially, big transfer rumours etc so its early days. He has improved since arriving though, so lets see how much more is in him.
What is also encouraging is his Wiki page, below.

Taylor is eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland due to his dad being from county Galway in Ireland and he’s had Irish citizenship since birth

Subject of a near two million bid according to chairman McAnthony. Championship club. They have just sold Ivan Toney to Brentford and regularly get talent picked so hopefully he's the next one.

Remember watching him in the Toulon Tournament and thinking at the time he was too good for non league. But even allowing for that his rise in the last year has been seriously impressive.

Got off the mark today at home to Fleetwood, hit an equaliser in the 90th minute and his side won it 2-1 late in added time.

Gave away a penalty late on which was the deciding moment v Sunderland. It was a harsh call by the ref.

Yeah, doing well. Hit the fifth goal on Saturday to take them top of L1 on GD and opened the scoring last night in a midweek away win, something that has been a weakness for the club for a while - goal is here about six posts down https://twitter.com/SportingLife

Another winner on Saturday, article on him here:

https://www.the42.ie/jack-taylor-thriving-ahead-of-crucial-double-header-of-qualifiers-5260868-Nov2020/

The Peterborough Telegraph hailed Taylor for “another imperious midfield display”, describing him as “the best player on the park” against Oxford.

And they haven't won without him, one draw & two losses so far. They were clear at the top when he got injured, now hanging on to second and with it the last automatic promotion place. His replacement Hamilton was booked twice in the first half tonight while it was 1-1, they lost 1-3 at home to Hull who now go clear at the top without needing to ask Crowley to warm up.

After his recent hamstring trouble, Jack was back for Peterborough the other day as a substitute in their away victory over Fleetwood.

Peterborough are just a point off leaders Hull now, and with a game in hand. Although Sunderland are in hot pursuit.

It'd be great to see Taylor in the Championship next season. A new test, as his career continues to develop.

Peterborough v Sunderland tomorrow and he's available again after the injury. Sunderland are in crazy form, no loss in thirteen with two draws. It's a game for position, the remaining automatic promotion spot will go to the winner. Its looking like a two from three for the two spots now in L1. So basically the biggest game of the season so far and probably of his career. Let's see if he starts ..

Gave away the free kick that McGeady scored from for the equaliser, which is a shame.

But I really do have a lot of hope for this lad, think he could be playing top division football in a few years time.

Exgrad

Yes, a pity his error led to the equaliser, thought he was tiring towards the end, understandable after lay off. He did make the initial intervention that led to the Peterborough goal.

Now to get carried away again, i think he's ahead of the other younger players who have been starting for us. Not to be negative about them, he's a couple of years older than Knight for example, but he brings a lot more craft and guile than the running about a lot that Knight and Molumby brought. Barring injury he will be a Premier League player withing the next couple of years. Has a real presence about him on the pitch, poise and a really good passing range. Mobile for someone his size as well.

There's been so much crap spoken about the likes of Liam Kelly and Crowley, but this guy is the real deal in my opinion, and if we havent integrated him into the senior set up within the next 12 months don't be suprised if he's getting the call to go on the guided tour of St Georges ParK (did say i was getting carried away).

Jeez I watched the match too and I can only say that I think you are getting a bit carried away. He was decent, no more than that. One lovely pass in the first half alright.

More getting carried away with his potential rather than performance in match today. He had more than one lovely pass though.

CraftyToePoke
05/04/2021, 5:33 PM
I can see both sides here, watched the game today also. He did have several really nice passes, he recycled possession well too throughout. However both times he didn't were in front of his own penalty area in shooting range and one cost his side the win, his mistimed challenge in the other Sunderland fixture this season cost his side a point in that game too as he gave away a late penalty. These are two very costly errors in this promotion race. There is a bit of a buzz about this player and there is clearly potentially a guy who could move up in the game and be valuable to Ireland also. We are looking into L1 for players so yeah, why not get him involved in a bigger meet up and look at him operate against better players.

DeLorean
05/04/2021, 5:56 PM
For the record, I know he did more than play one nice pass, I just didn't see any anything justifying him jumping ahead of somebody like Jason Knight in the pecking order, who's been exceptionally good at a higher level. Granted this was my first time seeing Taylor full stop.

This was his first start for a long time; he was recently out for 7 matches with a hamstring injury.

He was mixed today, but I wouldn't go judging him solely on this one performance. He's a had a good season overall

Good to see a player who is central to his team, rather than disposable like a lot of our players seem to be at moment...another big performance from him at weekend and Peterborough are well placed for automatic promotion. They had a poor run of results when Taylor was out injured but have come on strong since he came back. Something on his performance at weekend:

https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/alan-swanns-talking-points-from-derby-day-victory-the-best-first-choice-starting-xi-in-league-one-when-szmodics-is-hot-hes-very-hot-taylors-masterclass-a-crucial-decision-explained-and-is-the-title-now-3204628

3) Jack Taylor is a Championship-standard player already. He has an outstanding all-round midfield game and it was pleasing to see him burst into the penalty area at times last night because he is an automatic threat with his shooting ability, and indeed his height. But it was the weight and timing of his passing in the second-half that stood out. Taylor had a massive hand in both second-half goals and his return after injury has been key to this recent run of fine results.

Some hot air from Daragh McAnthony here, but i can see where he's coming from. Never one to shy away from talking up his players though.

If Peterborough go up would like to see him stay there to get good run of games in championship straight away. Would also like to see him included in the June friendlies for us, as my belief he has potential to be a major player for us and the sooner he is involved the better. Expect him to be a premier league player within next couple of years, as i think he has the ability to move up the levels fairly quickly.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes in the Championship next season. It will be a big step up, and Peterborough will be one of the weaker teams, but I expect Taylor will handle the step up well. Would definitely like to see him make his Ireland debut in June.

Big games tomorrow in L1 for anyone wanting to keep an eye on our players there, particularly Taylor

Hull - P42 82
Peterborough - P41 79
Sunderland - P41 71

Tomorrow, Sunderland are at Hull while Peterborough host mid table Gillingham, ideally a draw I guess with a Boro win seeing them clear in second with four to play and very nearly there in terms of going up with Taylor having been central to that.

Will play in the Championship next season, Peterborough were promoted today, they needed a point V Lincoln who were the only side who could catch them and were 0-3 down at home with 25 to play. Ended up 3-3 with a penalty several minutes into injury time to level it, which was never a penalty.

Motm tonight. Was involved in the build up for the third and great save from the keeper denied him a second but recovered the ball to get the assist for the fourth. A big shock Sheffield Wednesday losing 4-0 and Peterborough look strong favourites for promotion.

They have done it! 98th minute goal makes it 4-0 and takes them to extra time

Would be mental not to go up with 90+ points. But look at Notts County getting 107 points and scraping through in birth their playoff ties.

Football is mental at times. Very few sports would you see such turnarounds or unexpected results

Only Peterborough United could spunk a 4.0 lead, retake the lead, spunk that, and then hit some of the worst penalties you'll see. Entertainment factor 50 in a smorgasboard of what not to do in football. Well done Wednesday though.

Depends on what side of the fence you're looking at for entertainment. In the first game, the Posh relied on a goalkeeping error, a deflection and an offside goal for three of their four goals, You probably thought that was entertainment. I didn't especially when Owls missed an open goal in the first 10 minutes, didn't get a penalty for a clear handball and had 2 cleared off the line. They decided to adopt a different tactic in the home game and that was Jack's put them under pressure which Peterborough couldn't handle. At one stage Wednesday had 18 shots to 1 in the second half. There are many ways to skin a cat and Wednesday changed from their passing game to get the ball in the opponent's box at every opportunity. I think it was deserved especially since they finished 19 points ahead of 'Boro at season's end. I am obviously disappointed for the Posh from an Irish point of view (owners and players) but you know sometimes in life (not that often) you get what you deserve and the son of Alex Ferguson wondering where the extra time came from I find ironic. It was the stuff you dream about as a kid (like John O'Shea's equaliser in German or Robbie's late goal also against Germany) but seldom do they come true. It's usually heartache. I didn't expect them to come back when it was 4-5 nor win when it went to penos. It's the beauty of football. It can be one kick in the teeth after another but then there was that last night and all the rest is forgotten until they lose the play off final.

Peterborough can have zero complaints about the added time, they had sihthoused from minute one on the time wasting front and karma had a hard on for that kind of carry on last night. Ref was fine too, the club forum has him basically in a Wednesday shirt which simply isn't so. Most worrying from the Irish perspective is the ongoing Jekyll and Hyde chicanery of Jack Taylor. One version of him does not belong in L1 in a good way, the other version does not belong in L1 in a quite different way. Baffling drop off again from him from one game to the very next.

Taylor has won POTS on the fans forum. Most would be STs & the vote is weekly, collated at the end.
The vote covered the 48 league and play off games and what is most interesting is in 26 of the 48, he got no votes at all. In the remaining 22 he got enough points to win it including 9 MOTM awards. I really hope he sorts the consistency out, he's a real baller sometimes. Likely to move in this window, Ipswich linked heavily in the last two windows.
