What i got from a kilkenny newspaper

The quest for the Oscar Traynor Trophy grew stronger for the Kilkenny & District League as they confidently booked their place in the semi-finals.

Beaten finalists in the last two seasons, the Cats moved into the final four with a big win over Limerick’s Desmond League at the Kells Road.*

The result was anything but a stroll; the visitors bossed possession in the early stages and put Kilkenny under pressure. However, a clever finish from David Grincell saw Kilkenny turn the game their way midway through the first half.*

They built on that lead, going two up when Sean Barcoe seized on a short Limerick kick out to head home. A second for Barcoe, right on the stroke of half-time, gave the Cats a 3-0 lead at the break.*

Kilkenny didn’t let up after the restart, going further in front when Dean Broaders drilled home a fourth goal seven minutes after the restart.*

*

The Desmond League did pull one back, Brian Ahearn becoming the first player to score against Kilkenny this season, but the home side finished on a high. Two late strikes from sub Andy Walsh put the gloss on a big win for John Maclean and Conor O’Neill’s team.*

Shearer & fanaticfan... fair play for the replies... appreciate it!
Thought the 6-1 result might have been a bit much considering the group the lads qualified from. Great to have an inter-league team back too... fair play to the management and players for their effort!
Gonna be a long season again this year the way the weather is affecting everything... hopefully we do get some games this weekend!

Some games should be played in clounreask or the astro in the adare but the league would never cop onto that. The pitch in clounreask is wasted down there

District Junior and Schoolboy called off since yesterday, you'd imagine it won't be long before the Desmond League(s) follow suit.
Weather for this afternoon through tomorrow is supposed to be brutal, places are swimming as it is not to mind if they get more rain.
Not ideal but no point wrecking places.

Desmond League side in a Munster Final for the second time in four seasons.
You love to see it. Well done Rathkeale.

Was at the Rathkelae and Doolans Cow game... wasn't bad at all considering the conditions... wind, heavy pitch etc. with some good players on both sides.
Rathkeale deserved it but found it hard to get in behind/ break down the Doolans Cow defence... a lot of wayward passes and over hit crosses... but ultimately they came out on top... Best of luck to them in the final, they certainly have the players to win it.

Another blanket cancellation this weekend bit of a joke at this stage.

Plenty of local GAA matchs played yesterday . Surely a number of games could have went ahead today , some pitch’s would be more than capable of taking a game

In fairness, it rained a lot last night. Most pitches would not have been playable this morning, and the ones that were would have been badly damaged. It was the clubs that declared that their pitches were unplayable, not the committee

The one season the Desmond League starts late just happens to coincide with atrocious weather and Coronavirus.
Hopefully all systems go again come April.

Id say that is it, might just be starting a new season come September, disappointing news for Ballingarry Youths and Rathkeale Juniors.

I find it hard to see it finishing myself. By the time things can be re-started could be end of June or July. We’re really only a third of the way through the season, so a lot of games to get through still. A lot of clubs (bar the ones in contention for a trophy/promotion won’t have much appetite to restart - especially with what happened last season too).
You also have the dilemma of the GAA season - there will be GAA on 7 days a week when sport is back and in the Desmond league we have refs that cater for the both sports so be tough on them to do both.

As for a Rathkeale, Abbey and Ballingarry Youths I presume national and Munster competitions will finish and be played over the summer (FAI, Munster Junior/Youth and Munster Champions cup). I think and may be wrong but most clubs will want a fresh start in September and but all this behind us as it’s a testing time for a lot of people away from the pitch.
Might just go to a vote by all clubs whether to re-start or just start fresh in September.

Sport is very much the least of many peoples problems at present and looking at what’s happening in Italy it’s scary if we even get it quarter as bad . Many people are losing their jobs as well at the minute .
I’d say we can forget about the 2019-20 season . If it does clear over come June july most players will be tied up with football or hurling so fresh start in September be most logical although you could say the biggest gaa stroke soccer clubs like feenagh/ferry/ rockhill/ballysteen etc didn’t field this season .

Best of luck to the 3 DL sides in provincial action on Sunday.
Good news for soccer in this area also announced earlier with Treaty Utd U17 women set to play their home fixtures for upcoming season in Ballingarry. Deserved recognition for one of the best set ups in the Desmond League.

Great effort from Ballingarry in Munster Youths Cup Final yesterday after what had been a tough week for all in the club.
