media are commercial organisations
Untrue, or at least only half true, unless you're talking about Smashey FM or some similar slave to the so-called 'realities' of the market.
No media organization worth its salt can neglect its public service function. Even in the unlikely event of the IT and the Indo etc. admitting that their sole aim in life is to sell newspapers, RTE can't say all they want to to is maximise audience. It's a public service broadcaster, or is supposed to be. That's why we pay a TV licence, and why it's ironic that Setanta and TV3 do more, however paltry their efforts, to promote domestic football.

that just shows how much you actually read sport everyday. Wheres Aidan Fitzmaurice, Neil O Riordan or Stephen Finn.
Neil O'Riordan is a tosser!

Why do the irish media give scores for english league one, two & sometimes even scottish 1st division?

Do even a handful of readers have any interest at all?

In fairness, if you asked any Irish bookmakers you would be surprised by the amount of people who place bets on even the most obscure games in Britai. I'm sure they would read match reports and previews.

Indeed, I've never seen a Spanish match report with "Athletico reject Raśl put Real one up" in it.

They did when Raul scored against Atletico in his first Madrid derby 10 years ago.

That was relevant at the time, they don't keep going on about how poor Real must be to be employing a striker who couldn't make the grade at Athletico do they?
