For such a big lad, high balls really are his achilles heel. He frequently just doesn't read the flight of the ball right. On this occasion i think he got a slight bump from his own teammate but no excuses, you've just got to read thy flight early and be decisive. He was all at sea in Belgrade and on a few other occasions I saw him last season.

I'll give Stephen Kenny credit for figuring out early on that Bazunu was the best out of the three keepers we had coming through at the time, the others being Kelleher and Travers. Hopefully Travers gets a chance to prove himself in the next few weeks as it doesn't appear Neto will be back before the World Cup break.

Don't think Travers will be troubling Neto for that number one spot. Has conceded the same number of goals in these two and a half games that Neto has conceded in seven and half games.

Clean sheet today in a 3-0 win vs everton. Great to see. Hopefully he can push on from here!

2 goals conceded from corners cost Bournemouth today. First corner was an outswinger in 6 yard box, I wonder if travers should have come. In fact, I don’t recall him make any proactive interventions from any of Fulhams corners. Just has not seem to have improved his commanding of his 6 yard box. Otherwise has done ok

Definitely thought he should have come for the first one and probably got a strong fist on it. The second one, I've only seen one angle but it looked like one he could have made a better effort at that also. It was from range and didn't seem to be right in the corner.

Travers definitely doesn't look like a first choice EPL standard keeper at this point in time.

"Neto back" - could think of a few puns there. Apparently Neto has a much better save ratio than Travers.

"Neto back" - could think of a few puns there. Apparently Neto has a much better save ratio than Travers.

Unfortunately, Travers has been more a case of 'Back o'net' this season. It's hard to make judgements on 'Save' stats; on fbref.com, for example, 'Saves' can include shots blocked by defenders.

Gregor Robertson's report (Sunday Times) on Brentford v Bournemouth: " ...the former Barcelona 'keeper commanded his box well as Brentford rained cross after crossdown upon the visitors in the first half. It was no coincidence that the Brazilian's debut at the end of August kick-started the Cherries' six-game unbeaten run".

At 23 and 8 months, Travers is 10 years younger than Neto, but the latter had just turned 24 when he became first choice 'keeper for Fiorentina. Can Travers improve, or is the Championship his level?

Randolph is on the bench. Travers took a knock but looks fine to play on but if he were to come off that would make it 4 Irish keepers in the PL this season (see Tets’ post in the Kelleher thread).

Interesting move if there's truth in it. Luton probably favorites to go straight back down and long term Travers would be a good signing as look how good he was in the championship. Though if they've any ambitions of staying up then like Bournemouth they'd need a decent experienced keeper. Though defensively they're more solid so interesting to see who they bring in.

Bournemouth (and Leeds) have made enquiries about Newcastle's Karl Darlow (32). Leeds United and Bournemouth in battle for goalkeeper Karl Darlow | PlanetSport (https://www.planetsport.com/soccer/news/leeds-united-bournemouth-battle-goalkeeper-karl-darlow)

I wonder who will be leaving the Vitality Stadium this summer, if the club feel they need to strengthen the goalkeeper panel?

Has Neto extended his contract? They signed him on a 1 year deal, and he could do better than Bournemouth.

Yeah signed a three year contract at the end of May

Grand. I'd rather Travers were playing in the Championship than warming a Premiership bench anyway. It seems to be his level, for now at least. He's still very young for a keeper.

Linked with a season long at Millwall. That would be a great signing for Millwall.

I did a quick search for news on this and found out their club owner just died yesterday morning.

The Travers rumour is in the S*n, for whatever that's worth.

If Travers can get that, you'd have to imagine Kelleher can get at least that, if not better.

Stoke's attempt to sign Wolves’ goalkeeper Matija Sarkic seems to have failed, and Stoke manager Alex Neil has therefore turned his attention to Mark Travers. Since Bournemouth are bringing in Radu with an option to buy and Neto signed a new three contract it would be good if there's a similar option in Travers' loan deal.

Though I doubt it since a good season with Stoke and his value goes up. Which I think he will have because this is a very good signing for Stoke if they want to push on from bottom half strugglers and make a push for the play offs. Think Millwall will be kicking themselves not getting a deal done if they had interest.

After his performances for Coventry this year Stoke should be all over McNally to further strengthen that defence.

Bit of a waste for Travers. On the bench for 3 games and then back to third choice. We could have had Kelleher v Travers on Wednesday but presumably he’s cup tied (played in the first round vs West Brom).

Possible he’ll be back with Stoke in January

This is dissapointing news. He is not going to threaten Bazunu or Kellagher's position from the bench. Stoke was a real opportunity for him. Hopefully he gets more games this year, whether at Bournmouth or back out on loan.

Is Randolph still there, and if so why? He and James McCarthy are stretching to breaking point the accepted definition of a professional football player.

Eirambler
28/10/2023, 1:12 PM
Harry Arter on 40k a week and not in Forest's 25 man Premier League squad stretching it even more than either of those two I'd say! Some wages he's on to basically be an assistant coach in their youth setup.

Randolph is finishing off his career as a backup keeper and cashing the cheques. Backup keepers do have an important non-playing role to be fair, it's part of the job for many, maybe most keepers to provide cover for much of their careers.

McCarthy is crocked and just hanging around for the money. Plays a lot of golf in Glasgow apparently. That one's on Celtic. Anyone doing any research on him knew he was all but finished before he signed there, if they were dumb enough to give him a long contract then he's well within his rights to sit tight and take the money.

He was doing well, though the same weaknesses as ever were still apparent (distribution and command of his area).

Travers is a top half Championship keeper at the moment and could get better - there are plenty of teams in the championship where he would be an upgrade.

A lot of people judge Travers on his poor performance against Servia. However he is far better than that and was having a really successful loan at Stoke when an injury crisis forced Bournmouth to recall him. I reckon he has a big future.

25/04/2024, 8:09 PM
I only saw MOTD highlights. One fine save, albeit one you’d expect a top flight keeper to make. Wolves’ keeper was the busier of the two.

Clean sheet was a bit flattering. Wolves had 2 goals disallowed for fringe decisions where Travers was beaten in real time. Little he could have done with either - just saying the clean sheet involved a break or two.

Eirambler

Seems he might get the gloves for the rest of the season - obviously that's only four more games but would be at least a bit of compensation for having his season effectively ruined by the loan recall. Would give him a chance to either stake his claim for the jersey or put himself in the shop window for a Championship move. Neto is not popular with the support at the moment and Bournemouth may be in the market for a more modern type keeper this summer (someone like Kelleher would fit the job description I suppose).

His one save was brave, sliding out to stop a tight angle shot from close range.

He made a brilliant save as well in a play that was ultimately called offside — an athletic jumping save to tip a ball wide which was heading for the top corner. Great to see him putting together some good performances at Premier League level — as a pure shot stopper he may be our best ‘keeper.
