Won't Ramsdale have to sit out two weeks of training now though? That might help Travers' cause.
Yes, he will have to train at home for two weeks so will surely help Travers.

Bournemouth have accepted an Ł18.5mil bid from Sheffield United for Aaron Ramsdale.
This can only be good for Travers and there's a high chance he begins the season as their no.1.

Fingers crossed they don't dip into the market. The fact that they have hired their new manager from within is a huge benefit for Travers. A new outside manager might come in and see that return and think of spending 5m plus on a replacement and have some spare change for the squad. Hopefully they trust him.

Since they have lost their number 1 and 2 they will almost certainly need to sign a new keeper.

At fault for Blackburn's goal by some accounts. A shot from 35 yards-plus.

Obviously unsighted!
Seriously, though, he's still part of a winning side, so it hopefully won't dent the lad's confidence too much.

He needs a run of games in a first team environment. Whether he'll get that chance at Bournemouth now is questionable.
If they decide he's not going to be their first choice pick for the season he will need to get out on loan though, that might even be the best thing that could happen to him, he could develop under less pressure down the divisions. The danger is that he ends up benchwarming for the season, which would be useless for his development.

Haven't seen the full highlights but wasn't he weak on the other goal too ? And you could argue that his team mates should be able to trust him from that distance on most shots and are doing ok if they are restricting opponents to testing him from there.

Yes, Bradley Johnson has been known the score the odd screamer but you wouldn't even fear Bobby Charlton shooting from there.

Ya make sure he has something else to be worrying about rather than giving him Free Reign to have a shot at his leisure !
Anyway what does not kill a Goalkeeper makes him stronger ~ ~ hopefully.

Sorry but that's 100% on Travers for me. From there as a defender you're probably happy enough to see the guy shooting because it's such a low percentage play, unless it's an absolute screamer or the keeper has a howler they're never going to score.

Begovic started Bournemouth's League Cup win over Palace last night, keeping a clean sheet in normal time before conceding ten in the shoot-out, missing a spot kick himself but eventually winning the tie with a save from Milivojevic.

Out of the team already in the 2 league game of the season as Begovic starts.
Not a good sign.

Begovic with a poor game according to their fans forum. Position seems up in the air, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they draft in another keeper. Of only Travers could get a run of games and get his confidence up.
I suspect the rookie manager won’t be gambling on Travers unfortunately, and will take a 7 iron off the tee with an experienced keeper. Hope I’m wrong

He seems to have all the attributes to me to be a very good keeper. He just needs a run of games and gain experience. Had some really low standard non league experience, but that’s not enough. Ramsdale spent time at Chesterfield where he made a number of appalling mistakes, but learned from them and gained confidence, away from the spotlight of his own fans. Travers needed to get out to league one or two last year and make some mistakes rather than staying as 3rd choice keeper. Now, he’s in a tricky position. Needs games

He seems to have all the attributes to me to be a very good keeper. He does. But so did Colin Doyle. Doyle had a decent enough career but was let down by being error prone. I hope for better from Travers.

Doyle was a bit sluggish and his distribution wasn’t the best. I know Doyle very well, Travers has better attributes IMO, needs experience and iron out the mistakes. Hopefully he gets a chance to do it this season

Travers linked with a loan move to Swindon Town today.
Second bottom of League 1 with the second worst goals against record (Only Kieran O'Hara's Burton have a worse concession record) so he'd get plenty of practice anyway. Bazunu down in that part of the table also with Rochdale.
Swindon seem to have a young keeper on loan from Man United in goal at the moment.

He'd be kept warm during these cold, dark winter months, anyway. And a spell on loan at Swindon didn't do Shay Given any harm early in his career.
Doubt Bournemouth would let him go, though.

Swindon's keeper for the first half of the season has been recalled by Man United. Reports are that Travers is their number one target as a replacement and that it could be announced today or tomorrow.

Bournemouth will have a 24 hour recall option as he is still their number 2 keeper.

Sounds like a great deal for Travers, assuming he's number one. He'll get his game there and if he's called back then he'll get his game at Bournemouth.

Yes it sounds good for him. There won't be much competition for him at Swindon, their only other senior keeper seems to be very much a journeyman/backup type that has been around the league without much success.

Just a point of note.
If I was the manager of Swindon or any club on planet earth, I would never ever agree to a "24 hour notice" to call back a player.

Yeah, it's a funny one. I would think that Travers would have more than one offer on the table in League One and maybe this was the proviso included that ensured Travers didn't go elsewhere.
I only realised there that there is an Irish connection at Swindon with Lee Power, Waterford United owner, the chairman and owner and John Sheridan managing.

They’re more common than you’d think but rarely ever used. Generally there’s a serious financial penalty if the player is recalled built into the contract. Like lets imagine Swindon pay his wages and there’s a signing fee of 50k on top. Contract may include a clause saying the player can be recalled but Bournemouth will have to reimburse all of the wages paid to date and the 50k fee and a a further 25k penalty to facilitate Swindon finding a replacement.
You can always sign a keeper on an emergency loan if necessary, so there’s never a risk they’ll be left without a keeper if he’s recalled.
Clubs often sign deals where if a player isn’t playing X mins or X games, he can be recalled early without fee. Or often, there’s a large loan fee with the lending club covering all or most of the wages and if the player gets enough game time, the loan fee is waived, basically to incentivise the young player getting enough football.
Ben Woodburn famously cost Sheffield United an arm and a leg for his loan a few years back...

I think this is how Troy Parrott's loan was set up and why Spurs feel they can recall him in January if they want to.
The only down side to this for Travers is that, if Bournemouth need him for a week or two after the window closes, he could be recalled for just one of two games and then not be able to go back to Swindon and be stuck on the bench again for the rest of the season.

Solid enough debut from Travers in a good win for Swindon. Beaten twice from close range but not to blame for either and made a very good save from Alan Judge in the first half.

Swindon up 2-0 away to Charlton at present. I see that they move up 5 spots in the league table should all results remain the same. Only 3 points separating Shrewsbury in 17th and Wigan in 23rd.
A clean sheet would be nice for Swindon with Masterson and Travers playing.
Edit: Goal conceded but no fault of Travers or Masterson. Charlton striker unmarked at the back post.

Has ended 2-2. For Charlton's equalizer, Masterson thought he had played the goalscorer offside but the linesman didn't agree and the goal stood.

John Sheridan is clearly a risk taker when it comes to keepers - no sub goalie on the bench to cover Travers today.
Early reports from his loan spell seem positive.

Travers recalled by Bournemouth. Swindon say in a press release that it's because of an injury to Begovic but no mention of that at the Bournemouth end.
Either way, it will be a real shame if this means he only plays one or two more games at Bournemouth for the rest of the season, he was getting a great run in the team and by all accounts playing well, even though Swindon themselves are struggling.
Swindon have been playing with no keeper on the bench so this will cause them a huge issue. Will probably apply for an emergency loan now. Max O'Leary maybe, or Kelleher?!

This is kind of disappointing alright. I've done a few searches online and can't really substantiate the nature or extent of Begovic and his injury. If Begovic recovers and retains the number one spot then Travers is either stuck there as number two or on the lookout for another loan. Or maybe he rips the starting spot from Begovic- that would be a great outcome.
