View Full Version : organise casual games of football
I've had an idea for something to add to foot.ie
(maybe someone else already said this somewhere before, but I can't find any mention of it)
Can we have a sub-forum where people can post times and locations of casual games of football? :ball:
I currently play one game of football regularly every week, but I'd like to play more. It would be good if we had a forum where people could post if they're playing games or want to organise games, but need more players.
I'm not talking about propper teams or leagues, just casual games of football in the park. The forums could, obviously, be regionalised - maybe by county.

Good idea, even if I originally thought the thread was about football matches between 'casuals' ;)

Well, how about we start off with everyone that organises a game posting in this thread, see what kind of numbers we have. Just the basics like.

BY THE WAY WE at pats have a fans team already on the go (not in any league) and we will gladly give any foot.ie selection a friendly or two in dublin this summer if yiz get a team together

I could get 1 or 2 teams from waterford
Could this be the birthplace of the inaugural foot.ie cup.
I could probably get a ground to host a one day tournament if anyones interested in travelling.
How about sticking this in the Junior League section as a sticky as most leagues will be winding down now....

I seem to remember some cork fans waving a foot.ie cup around belfield a few years ago. Is it still in existance anyone? That's right, there was a "Foot.ie Challenge Cup" a couple years ago. I went to a trophy shop to get the smallest trophy they had, but when I hooked up with the lads that evening Joe had procured an even smaller one. So there's actually two, but I think the one I got was actually "engraved". ;)
Anyway, I was thinking of setting up a probationary forum called "Foot.ie Casuals", but given discussion in this thread (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=24393) - that's kind of why I asked - I'm not so sure now. However I get the impression that between all the organisational conversations and the slagging and cheering afterwards there'll be plenty of discussion to warrant a forum, what does everyone else think?

I'll be a CHEERLEADER
sure Kerr's tribe and Babysis will join me but I'll have to hold trials... :D
I'd definately be up for some kind of organised football, like a foot.ie cup (especially as I wasn't in Ireland for the last one), but my original intention was for a forum were people could post messages for pick-up games like this:
"Game of Football
Sunday May 1st, at 3pm,
Douglas Village Green, Cork
Need an extra 5-7 players."
NB - This is a fictional entry, there isn't actually a game of football organised for Sunday May 1st at 3pm! There isn't anywhere called 'Douglas Village Green' anyway!
But continue discussing a tournament anyway aswell - all football is good (well, except if its Finn Harps :p )

Waterford has an annual inter firms competition called the Factory League. Ill be looking for opposotion (11 a side) if anyone can offer some competition.
A venue and ref is ready to role if any of you can provide opposition in May. Ill be managing the company's B side so the standard doesnt have to be that great. :)
anyone on here gonna be involved in the setanta fans cup in dublin next sunday? couple of us heading up

Dublin based (northside) former inside right here ready for the call-up.
How does Saturday afternoons starting next week in Phoenix Park suit people - classic jumpers for goalposts five or seven a side stuff if need be. Surely there has to be about 15 or so of us who would be on for it, and of that maybe 10 who could make most Saturdays.
I am presuming that running in these games consists of everyone going cracked for the first ten minutes or so, before easing back to a diet of strolling, sweating and swearing.
By the way, I certainly would agree with Adam about the forum - I look forward to reading about Tiktok's fitness in the week before a critical Dublin Exiles Vs Non-Jackeen Gents clash in the next Foot.ie Challenge Cup :D
