View Full Version : So about those wacky off seasons we have

Ya I am not having a go there but we most definitely need more people involved and here has 100% been people thinking about getting involved which isn't great. A 3 man board of a football club where only one really knows anything about the game is not a good mix have to appreciate Pat but he isn't a football man like.
O ya I know you weren’t.
Ya ideally we need more people involved and a board type set up with the a few people having a say but as it stands we only have two real decision makers and one who has the final say. All the pressure is on them. Having one man owning the club means it will be that way for the time being. In an ideal world you would have some kind of split between an owner/investor and fans but we seem to be well off that at the moment.

You see when a couple of posters that have different views can reach a type of consensus and identify strengths and weaknesses in the set up. That what's needed, an avenue to almost "provoke" discussion.. rather than meander along and accept mediocrity...the old nodding dog syndrome. Make no mistake, we are going nowhere fast and have the most unsustainable model in the country which needs radical work.

unless there is a massive surprise on the horizon we will be the weakest team hands down in that ten team premier league Waterford are now paying players for the 52 weeks and have a lot of money behind them to go after top players.
so who would be the two teams you reckon will be worst than us.
we are in big trouble as it stands.
I know it's very early but whispers within the club suggest money is extremely tight.

Currently we are fodder, re sign all of last seasons squad, still fodder. Big improvement and investment needed.

season's/seasons or choose/chose? Maybe Jofspring can pass on the details of that English teacher you suggested.
As for the football... it would be nice to sign a few alright. Waterford are hitting the ground running too so there won't be any teams cut adrift like Drogheda were unless we repeat our last relegation trick.

The past tense of choose is chose ... Probably someone with a grasp of English would help. Not that I'd wait in the long grass to ridicule an opinion, but who would you choose ?

That could be a very good signing if as mentioned he gets fit and can stay injury free. Bags of talent injuries seriously slowed down his career so far.
One I wanted us to sign last season actually.

Very happy to see Danny signed. Still young but he has plenty of experience at this level. Hopefully he can get his full fitness back and find form again.

Was told as it stands Joe is still with Limerick. People saying he was let go was a load of rubbish. He has had offers elsewhere but as it stands is still with Limerick. If he goes it seems it will be his decision.

I was always lead to believe it was his decision to leave cos he was unhappy with a few things with the club. I'll believe he is staying when I see him though someone else that was told it was all rubbish was told he would be at underage training the next day, no sign. They were also told he had never spoken to Waterford which I know 100% he has.

Not sure who told them that but I believe he did talk to Waterford and he even told Pat O Sullivan that he did so he was upfront about it. Nothing as it stands has come from it but an offer was made to him.

Stephen Folan was offered a deal today.
And he laughed down the phone.
Now obviously I'm not one for exaggeration.
But when that one legged, mincing, prom queen of a centre half is laughing at an offer it's absolutely time for the board to resign en masse burn the Markets Field to the ground fold up the tent and start in the first division again in a couple of years.
We're into Danny Drew with Tommy Lynch as his assistant territory here.
McDonald better have players. And he better have them locked in a room where our chairman can't get at them.

Considering the “board” consists of 2 people, resigning would take all of two seconds and all it would do is leave us with no owner and no one running the club.
If Folan genuinely laughed at an offer from us he should have been laughed back at. He was just relegated with Galway and could barely get a game with Sligo or Cork previous to that.

I'm well aware of how quickly the board could resign.
I'm saying close the club. 100%.
Shut her down.
All the money to get to a point where the clowns are laughing at YOU.
Take it down from the mast.
Roll it up in a carpet and throw it off a bridge.
Put a fork in it. It's done.
We're into John Healy coming on upfront up in Mel's Park territory here.

Folan would literally be the best defender we had by a country mile at this stage 2nd best outfielder by a distance 3rd best player overall as we stand.

I certainly wouldn’t be losing sleep about not getting Folan. Would I like to have seen him signed, yes. Would I imagine Limerick offered him decent but not brilliant wages, yes. If he can get more elsewhere then fair play to him.

Do you honestly expect us to sign anyone better than Folan? And I'm not even saying he is much good but who will we eventually get? The corpse of John Dunleavy maybe.

At the moment I’m not sure because it is hard to know who is available. I’d be hoping the club are talking to more than one defender though. John Caufiled himself said recently that wages are already starting to get out of hand. Maybe some players are looking for way more than they are worth?
We can only really judge our signings by what we have when pre-season starts in January. If we have a load of rubbish then the club will have to stand by their decisions. As it stands we have to let the club just do their business because I honestly think what fans say or think about the policy when it comes to signings means absolutely zero to Pat O Sullivan and Neil McDonald.

It doesn't mean anything to em but it will if we are back in a relegation battle and crowds plummet.

Ya I agree. That’s why I’m saying about they will have to live by these decisions and will most likely come under more pressure if the window goes arseways.

I’ve heard Lynch is in talks with Sligo in regards a move next year.
There’s one thing players are doing this year and that’s playing clubs off each other on order to get the best possible deal. Sheppard done it with Cork, Bolger with Rovers. I would imagine Hery is doing the same now considering the interest in him.

That’s definitely happening. A lot of players have agents now so they are trying to get them the best deal possible and know how to play the system. I’m sure there are lads talking to Limerick that probably have zero interest in actual signing.

McDonald better have a core of UK players together.
Losing a player you want to waterford is an absolute embarrassment for Pat O Sullivan. No more listening to his cretinous mooing about wanting Limerick to be a big club.
If they pull the Russell shuffle again this off season Pat needs to **** off to be honest. It's just a monumental waste of everyone's time and money at this stage.
Again: Unless McDonald is signing a squad in uk.

When we didn't get McNamee it was because he went to the Champions and we can't really compete with the top 3 or 4 teams. All the more reason to F U C K I N G ensure you hang on to the 1 or 2 top class players we have. I'm now really excited because if we can afford to get rid of Bastian then the 3 or 4 better midfielders we will be signing should have us ****ing the league. Champions League here we come
