Buttimer....He ruined a cup q/f for us around '09 up in Tallaght vs Rovers. Goalkeeper sent off for us in absurd circumstances. Im sure some United fans remember. My defining memory of his awfulness. And Limerick 1-0 up from a penalty after an offside goal for us. Bad times.

Bad news for us if it stays that way. Needing Derry to beat Sligo tomorrow night now, more than likely.

Thoroughly stupid posturing from him tonight. Embarrassing stuff.
I'm really of the opinion all of his 'bad' and 'bizarre' decisions are deliberately calculated to attract attention onto himself

He gave Rovers a free just inside our own half after a foul with no advantage coming. The ball had rolled to our penalty area and Barry Ryan, our keeper and captain at the time, started roaring at Buttimer and booted the ball back towards him. Buttimer decided Ryan had kicked the ball at him intentionally and sent him off. We lost 6-0 I think

So can cork avoid relegation next season ? Q rain of abuse from cork but seriously lads !!

3-2 Pats. Cork have thrown in the towel here. They really need to put up more of a performance for the sake of the other teams in the relegation zone. Very poor attitude.

Galway with one back. They need to win though.

Damn it Cork! 4-2 down now. Galway pull one back. Crucial. Ronan Murray. Pats are safe now though it seems.

So is that 12 points in 11 games for Cork now?
Few lads out celebrating the last few nights I'd say! Kamikaze defending from a makeshift backline.
I wouldn't be a fan of making so many changes, I think it's unfair to the other teams, but when there's only 1 player in the same position as Tuesday, this was on the cards.

dont think cork owe anybody anything. they are entitled to have been on the pi$$ since tuesday. They won the league FFS.
The teams in the the bottom 4/5 are there for a reason, and need to be responsible for their own results, not relying on anyone else

All over in Limerick. 2-2. We are still in it. Great comeback and we might have won it. put Limerick under constant pressure from about the hour mark. Massive game for Sligo now and an even bigger one for us at home against Dundalk.

Well, some drama tonight.
It's a bit mad thinking how crucial our matches are in the relegation fight.
In the last four weeks of the season we'll have played Drogheda, Harps, Sligo and Pat's.
Just mulling over some permutations in my head:
If we draw with Sligo tomorrow, Harps are virtually gone.
If we beat Sligo, Harps are still in it.
If Sligo beat us tomorrow, Pat's could end up getting relegated against us this day week.
If we beat Sligo and Pat's (let's say by one goal), Sligo would be playing Drogheda next week needing to win by seven. Difficult, but not impossible? Would be fun to find out.
If we fail to beat Sligo, Galway will likely need us to beat Pat's.
If we beat Pat's, Galway can stay up on goal difference by beating Dundalk.
I could go on......

I'd like to see Pat's and Sligo relegated so they can enjoy the 10 team First Division they voted for.
Didnt know Sligo agreed to it, are you sure. I thought i was Pats, Dundalk, Derry and Shams

We could have been a couple of goals down before we did go ahead, and the goal at the start of the second half meant that it was going to be pretty much a siege for the rest of the game. Thought your first penalty was very soft, but if you'd scored it I wonder how things would have finished.
Surprised that Keegan waited until the final minute before making any substitutions, but then I suppose you were dominant with the 11 you had on the pitch anyway.
Great crowd down from Galway, the guts of 300 people I'd guess.

220 galway fans.
Limericks pen and galways first pen were figments of the officials imagination. As for the jersey issue buttimer is as we all know a clown. The white limerick sleeves clashed with the galway white kit. Galway refused to wear the limerick away kit as the jerseys had players names on them. (Johnny glynn mind games) so limerick had to wear their own away jerseys. Sat back too much and welcomed galway into the game with a terrible back header by hery. Limerick players fist pumping the final whistle...I hope your all released if you think this performance is acceptable.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the first penalty, it did look like he went looking for it. Decent save from the keeper, but his foul made the second penalty look a bit more clear cut.But it's difficult to tell 100% from streaming.Although the stream position was great, there was zero sound unfortunately. Very good crowd indeed down from Galway. Gonna be another big crowd in Terryland next week I'd say. We have to beat Dundalk realistically, just to be sure, and even then it might not be enough if Sligo win their last two games, which they well could do.We need a huge favor from Derry tomorrow night.

Looking on game on stream, a question for guys at game. Was McCormack dragged back in the box in injury time?
Agree that the first 2 pens looked amazing decisions.

No he wasnt minimum contact but he threw himself similar to the first galway dive/pen. That said I would have given the pen just to demonstrate how poor cotter was with his positioning

If Derry beat Pats next week, Galway beat Dundalk and Sligo lose to Derry but beat Drogheda then 3 teams end up on 38 points. Incredibly tight. We need a point in Derry (or Buncrana to be exact) and I think we're capable of getting it. We were terrific tonight to come back from 2 down. Lovely moves for goals 2,3 and 4. On Buttimer, that's crazy stuff. Remember him doing something similar at Pats a few years ago on the opening day of the season. I think it was against Sligo. How does he keep getting away with it ?

Other than Sadlier,Cork were awful tonight.Allowing Garvan the freedom of the park was bizarre.Pats took their chances though and will stay up
18 points dropped so far against the 3 North West teams and 3 away wins v top 3 !!
Irn Bru cup if it still going ahead?

Pats lucky to be playing a Cork team who didn't give a damn. I think Dundalk would play with a bit more pride if they'd already won the title. Galway probably still favourites to go down with Harps and Drogs.

Think it was mentioned previously, dundalk won the league last year, the next game was against St pats away, they lost 5-2. Drops mic...

I think it's just crazy all games aren't on at the same time for the last few rounds. Massive advantage for Sligo to know they only need a draw to stay ahead before playing Drogs on the last day, they surely approach this game differently now knowing Galway havent won

Exactly. I don't think Cork were deliberately not at it last night. It's just that with the best will in the world having won the league three days previously there just won't be the same intensity there, especially against a team fighting for their life, as we are. We also lost away in Cork in 2013 after clinching the title the previous week.

Did they really make 8 changes as posted by someone? Regardless of intensity or being on the rip, that is effectively fielding a B team. I wouldn't give them a pass for that

Interesting. It's definitely an advantage, but I think it'd be overly harsh to make Sligo switch to Fridays for the last few rounds.

Next week all games are on at the same time, why? To avoid any competitive advantage, this is organised from the start of the season so clubs know, it should be extended to the final three weeks as more often this is when the real action is, rather than the just the last weekend

Sligo agreed to it
From what I heard, we agreed to it in principal but also said the League had bigger challenges that needed addressing first. Make no mistake, this is the FAI's baby to paper over the cracks of a 7 team FD. Even if there was a vote by clubs, which there wasn't, only a few agreed to the change. FAI showing once again that it is a dictatorship and not a democracy.

Well if clubs know for that long then it's up to them to change it to their advantage and not to force it upon other clubs.

It should be mandated that all these last few rounds are on at the same time & you can't change it unless unavoidable circumstances like last night with Harps game. This wouldn't be a case of the FAI overstepping their jurisdiction, it is fairly standard now in most countries.

Ya, so you said. My point remains. If clubs know about it and feel their is an advantage then let them change it. They have plenty of time to do it.

You see my point but are ignoring it, the club shouldnt have the power to change the date of the fixture in these last few rounds

What advantage does it actually give? Knowing what you need doesn't mean you get it still have to go out and get the result, could even be argued it adds pressure.
