Walters hasn't been completely ruled out even though he's not in the squad: https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/1026/915406-walters-confirmed-as-out-as-oneill-names-ireland-squad/
I haven't put [Walters] this squad at this moment, though he's making good progress. We'll see what the next ten days may bring. We'll see.
Would Declan Rice not have been a better option than McShane? Rice is playing at a higher level and certainly has a big future with us.
O'Neill also said the following on Matt Doherty earlier:
Matt is playing a right wing back role for wolves and it seems to suit him.
Isn't that Doherty's primary position? O'Neill says that as if Doherty is filling in there.

Cyrus looked much better the last two matches than against Serbia. Great to see Doherty in the provisional squad before he's unceremoniously dumped for the final squad.

I have been busy trying to dig up the photo from 1992 when I put an Irish scarf and hat on the Little Mermaid but with no success so far. I see some Kerry person has gone one better and actually put on a Kerry jersey https://m0.joe.ie/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/17125100/little-mermaid-kerry.jpg
We have a reasonable record against Denmark (unbeaten in the last 4) https://www.11v11.com/teams/republic-of-ireland/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Denmark/
Nothing to be scared of (famous last words).

What do you absurdly fine lads think the Danish lineup will be? I would say:
Apricot
Pineapple Cheese Cherry Blueberry
Cinnamon Lemon Apple
Nutella (gross) Pumpkin Spice
Raspberry

Indeed I do. Not a bad side ok but slightly weak in the goal keeping department with Mick Kearns of Walsall fame between the sticks while John Giles must have been close to his pension https://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/3/1980/3464 Never realised that Don Givens' real name was Daniel Givens. We won 2-0 at home so I'd take both of those results. It was the era of one step forward, two steps back. Can't remember where we finished in the group.

I think Giles may have been responsible for two of the goals against ( certainly one ) . I’d say the Dane’s targeted him as he was past his best and they certainly dispossessed him for one of the goals . I don’t really recall Mick Kearns letting us down considering the level he was playing at club level .
I was only a young fella so my report may not be as good / reliable as one would like .
It was obvious (very ) that it was the end of the road for Giles .

Denmark were just beginning to emerge (from bangers to dynamite) as an exciting intl team, having just come fully out from their imposed amateur status.
From that wiki page, the games in Copenhagen v Ireland and v England were the big ones attracting a big crowd. A much smaller crowd witnessed them beating NI 4-0.
Even when we were cráp, we were 'scalp worthy'.

I think this was Mark Lawrenson's competitive debut as a youngster at Preston and he had a great game. It was an exciting game, we hadn't won an away game in donkeys years and it looked like we'd finally done it, but things always went wrong in that era

Serious demand for tickets (which we already knew). Threshold was set at 6 away games over the last 2 campaigns (excluding Scotland).
Pretty much excludes everyone except Paul O'Shea and the YBIG crew.
Email:
Dear BonnieSituation,
We would like to thank you for applying for tickets for our 2018 FIFA World Cup Play off Qualifying Round game against Denmark on November 09th in Copenhagen.
Unfortunately, due to such high demand for tickets, we cannot accommodate your request on this occasion.
We received in excess of 7,000 ticket applications which far exceeds the allocation that we have received.
On this occasion Supporters with a season ticket who attended 6 or more away games across both this WCQ campaign and the Euro 2016 Qualifying Campaign (excluding Scotland) received priority in the allocation process.
The Association will of course continue to lobby for additional tickets however we would feel that this stage that it is highly unlikely that we will receive any more.
We appreciate your patience during this process and thank you for your continued support.
Kind Regards,
FAI Ticket Office

Looks like the tickets went 15% to Abbey Travel, 53% to sponsors, officials, league clubs, 21% to supporters clubs leaving around only 21% to independent travelers. No wonder many people have been left disappointed.

Did you actually meet their said criteria John?
Loads picked up tickets in wales as well granted we had more tickets though, but we had almost 2/3s more fans.
I think they've done alright this time the FAI. Compared to Scotland certainly so, but I just got on with it when I didn't get a ticket. Everyone nowadays has an over-inflated self importance.
One thing I know of though is the supporters club are well looked after regardless of general previous attendance. It's all around membership as opposed to games attended. It's a tricky one.

apparently they refused entry to polish fans in the recent qualifiers. However, I cant imagine the poles left their many flares at home that night so that might have been the deciding factor

Personally, I had no expectation of getting a ticket direct through the FAI and I have no complaint over being rejected, but I think most supporters who have been voicing dissatisfaction with the allocation process are just asking for fairness (non-arbitrariness) and transparency. I think their complaints are very reasonable. All our neighbouring associations manage ticketing matters in an open, transparent and objective manner, as far as I know, but the FAI don't, presumably because having or maintaining control and influence over who does and doesn't get a ticket (rather than leaving allocation to an objective system) equates to political and bargaining power when it comes to winning support and votes.
Emmet Malone wrote a piece on supporter frustrations here: https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/ireland-fans-frustrated-at-lack-of-tickets-for-denmark-clash-1.3277027
There was anger among some of those who missed out this time that so many tickets are swallowed up by members of the “football family”, a catchall term generally taken to describe officials from clubs and league who are subject to no attendance requirements, as well as premium tickets holders, sponsors, FAI board members and other senior officials. Fifteen percent of tickets go to Abbey Travel who bundle them into packages.
The association said on Wednesday night that the most dedicated fans had been looked after but that, given the importance of the game and limited supply due to the relatively small size of the stadium, it was never going to be possible to meet demand.

Myself and my brother got two tickets for D3, which is the home section but as close to sections D1 and D2 (the official away section) as we can get.
https://footballtripper.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/telia-parken-copenhagen-seating-plan.jpg
I'm not sure where the entrance for sections D1, D2 and D3 are though. Is there just one general entrance for all of them? If segregation is to be enforced, you'd expect a separate entrance for D3.
The tickets we have state "Supporters of hometeam only" and also feature the following warning:
PLEASE NOTE: Tickets to anything else than the away section on the stadium are reserved for fans of the Danish national team. People showing support for the visiting team through any kind of apparel will therefore be refused entrance to the match. In addition to that, verbal support to the visiting team from people outside the away section, will result in expulsion if considered a safety-related necessity.
ALSO NOTE: Fans of the Irish national team cannot buy tickets through the Danish Football Association (DBU). We reserve the right to cancel the tickets if this rule is not complied with. Fans of the Irish national team must buy their tickets through the Football Association of Ireland.
It's ominous, but you'd hope that's the standard sort of thing they'd put on tickets to dissuade opposition fans from purchasing home tickets whilst not strictly enforcing it on the night. The SFA were fine with Irish fans in the home section in Celtic Park after prior warnings. Did many Irish get into the home section in Cardiff?
Ideally, I'd still want to be in either D1 or D2, so would sell on the tickets we have if away-end tickets pop up in the mean time.
I was just watching this highlights video of the Denmark-Poland game in the Parken Stadium to get a sense of who was where:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQGP36RSpXM
Sections D1 and most of D2 (behind the right goal) were obviously officially reserved for Poland fans, but I note that section D3 is half empty. Is this because the game didn't sell out or is it because a lot of Polish fans bought tickets for here but were refused entry? Some Polish fans clearly made their way into D3 regardless, as you can see that a significant number of fans in there show no response or celebration when Denmark score. In fact, some openly put their head in their hands or wave their arms in annoyance at conceding. I can only assume they're Poles. They're wearing scarves/colours too. If it is true that Poles were turned away from the home section on the night, maybe it was due to having threatened violence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsGE1IMXLsk) rather than because they were wearing Polish colours.

The IFA's system is neither open nor transparent. Put simply, they don't know which individuals have attended particular games. This is because tickets for away matches are largely distributed to 'lead block bookers' (effectively, mini supporters' clubs) with only the lead individual names and addresses recorded. So because of this lack of data, distribution is arbitrary if not subjective.
I'd say both set-ups would benefit from registering supporters individually. The IFA don't through a mix of laziness, administrative incompetence and I'll admit some cunning (in that they know there are many supporters clubs who are content at present).

I see. For some reason, I thought the IFA operated differently. The SFA and FAW operate points-based systems though, don't they? Not one hundred per cent certain about the FA.
