View Full Version : Jayson Molumby M West Brom b.1999
Interesting. Overwhelming consensus on their fan forum was that Molumby was to be ahead of Livermore. Plenty time to prove it.
Livermore being captain he was always going to start. Manager even emphasised that before the game. Surprised Molumby didn't start in midfield with him though. Fulham are the better team and have three in midfield, thought Molumby with how lively he is would get the nod ahead of 34yr old Snodgrass.

A bit depressing that Robinson is not getting picked as well. Our star man bench warming in The Championship…..
Hugill wasn't getting dropped after scoring twice. Snodgrass with a lovely assist for Fulham's second goal with that back pass.

So what? If he's scoring for us on the back of a dry spell like he did recently then what about it?

Strikers like form I guess.
Would have been nice for him to build on Azerbaijan/Qatar to have some momentum coming into two trickier games

Starts tonight in the absence of Livermore. Robinson starts too.
Hopefully both will get a fairer crack of the whip under Bruce.

O'Shea and Brown on the benches which is good on both fronts.

Does take a deflection, but was still on target from the initial shot

"Jayson Molumby will be an Albion player next season" is a really unhelpful headline with Brighton and West Brom are the two clubs involved...

"Molumby's done," Bruce revealed when asked about the player's future after the stalemate. "Molumby was done weeks ago. The deal was kicked in weeks ago, so he's our player now."

Steve Bruce hasn’t exactly improved West Brom much since his arrival. I wonder will they be looking for a change of manager over the summer ?

The talk of premiership clubs was premature. If he was that well regarded why would Brighton let him go? And why would he be going to a mid-lower championship team? Must be what's seen as his level by those paid professionally in football.

As big a spoofer as there is in professional football management. Nice man? possibly. Capable manager? Absolutely not.

If they're smart they will. Has said himself he's staying on and only has a year left on his contract. They'd be off their game to give him money to spend this summer so it's gonna be loan signings to improve a squad that he's taken from 5th to 13th. O'Shea is out of contract next summer so hopefully he holds off on signing anything for awhile to see how next season goes.
If Molumby hadn't got those knee injuries which kept him out for 15 months be interesting to see where his career would be right now. Hughton had given him his debut, had him on the bench in the league for a few games, flying it as captain with the U19s and then misses the next 15 month after injuring his knee twice. Went to Millwall a few months after coming back and played well that season but things have been meh since then.

Going by that Bruce might get them out of the division next year ( The old ones are the best )
Bruce is an average manager and it takes a good to very good manager to get a team up to the premier league these days and probably with more modern coaching as well.

Molumby to me is in the mold of Mark Kinsella or Matt Holland. Both didnt really become regular Premiership or international players until later in their 20s.
Molumby will probably be a good pro like those 2 and have a good career but hes not the top class player some of us thought he could be for while

I will be pleasantly surprised if he turns out to be as good as either of them.

At Molumbys age Kinsella was playing at Colchester. Holland was being loaned out to Farnbourough. We are too quick to write off young players some times. Id be delighted if Molumby becomes as good as even Lee Carsley never mind the other 2 mentioned. He has time and has shown glimpses that he is capable of it.

Didn’t Lee Carsley play for Everton for quite a while when Everton were half decent ?

He did. Him and Gravesson were a super partnership in midfield.

And as Graveson was a bit (a lot ) of a madman then Carsley got the best out of him.

Graveson ended up getting a move to Real Madrid after that. I remember at the time there was commentary that Real thought they were getting a hard tackling defensive midfielder and signed the wrong bald guy. Graveson was a nice player but he wasnt a defensive midfielder by a long stretch.

I like Jayson.
He's a tough little focker. He's tenacious, got great stamina, can play a pass. He's like a version of David Batty.
But he's been rash plenty of the time I've seen him. It can't be easy being top of the class, surrounded by 3 of your mates/countrymen, then having 13months of your career taken away and found you've been usurped.
He's 22 - and has been a sometime fixture in a squad that is looking upwardly mobile, while etching out a place for himself at a club that sees itself as being more than a Championship club (and has been in the recent past). He's not in the worst position in the world as others have alluded to,

Yeah he does have the look of a late bloomer, Definitely see him potentially being a top player but that potential may not be obvious until he’s 25-26, we’ve seen with the likes of Egan & Doherty that playing championship/ league 1 football in you’re early 20s doesn’t mean you’re chances of being a premiership footballer are doomed.

I’d worry a little that Molumby has regressed a little over the last year or two. When he came back from injury, he used to really drive forward with the ball. Kenny referred to it positively as chaos or unpredictability or something. There was a touch of young Jordan Henderson about it. When I’ve seen him play for West Brom and Ireland lately, he’s been inclined to sit and pass and hold, it’s like he’s trying to turn himself into a player he’s not. Hopefully he finds the balance because there’s a good player in there I think

John Egan was seriously hampered by that leg break. He was on the verge of a first team breakthrough with Sunderland when it happened and it knocked the sh!t out of him. Happening at that age, at that time, he'd no option but to drop down the leagues to start again. Egan's ceiling was always high, arguably he's stayed at the Blades too long - a problem lots of Irish players have - but that's a different discussion.

Molumby also has had a strange couple of seasons. He gathered blisters last season for the first half before Brighton eventually sent him to Preston on loan. This season WBA have had fairly volatile league form and a change in manager which must have brought a big change in approach. A bit of certainty will hopefully help with the confidence and he can knuckle down for next season. Worth noting that he hasn't earned many Irish caps of late and was liked by Kenny at the beginning. He'll know he has work to do for club and country.

Worth noting the positive season Jayson is having. He is improving every game he plays in according to the WBA forums, and has now re-established himself as a starter in the post-Bruce era. Many fans giving him MOTM today in 2-0 win. He could well push on and become an integral player for us in the coming months

Yes, but needs to grasp the difference between relentless and reckless.
Good to see him back in and starting the last two games under the new manager. Hopefully he can keep his starting place now that the cabbage got the sack.
With Knight missing both Cullen and himself will need to be on form. Interesting to see who Kenny will select to play alongside them as the third midfielder.

Almost certainly Brown or Hendrick in which case it won't be interesting. Hopefully Smallbone gets some minutes and of course Hodge might have been interesting.
Hodge was at the FAI Cup Final today.

Seems to be hitting form at the moment which is coinciding with West Brom moving up the table. Got this review for his performance against Reading
Molumby 9*
Magnificent. As strong a hand as Lumley produced to deny him, he really should have put Albion in front when bursting into the box to meet Swift's lay-off. Outstanding battling qualities displayed to win the ball before he then fired in an excellent cross from the right for Dike's goal.

West Brom cruising today (v Blackburn) not missing Molumby, who has been unable to train because of a foot injury.
Had started in their last two league games but after starting in their first 8 games of the season he's only started 4 of the other 18 league games.
