Hopefully. Liverpool have always had a habit of bringing strikers up from their ranks. They have had some success with imports, but nothing like Rush and Fowler.

But they bought Rush from Chester?

Maybe playing reserve games was "up through their ranks" but for £300k it was hardly youth development in the conventional sense!

They are obviously doing something right at the moment
I wouldn't necessarily think so. They have one of the biggest playing populations in the world and the richest clubs. They could easily be where they are based on pure luck.

Brighton's U23s lost tonight in Premier League Cup action to Hull, but their first goalscorer was Aaron Connolly, grabbing his second in two games and playing the full match. Hmm... interesting. Jayson Molumby also played the full 90, while Dessie Huctchinson came on as a second-half sub: https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/2017/november/match-report-for-brighton-and-hove-albion-pl2-vs-hull-city-u23-on-03-nov-17/

Little bit of news from tonight's Premier League Cup action - we haven't been hearing much about Ronan Hale recently, but tonight he bagged a brace in Birmingham U23s' 3-1 over Middlesbrough. To make things even more promising, the other goal was scored by Corey O'Keeffe, while Daniel Cleary played the full game: https://www.bcfc.com/news/articles/2017/report-middlesbrough-under-23s-1-blues-under-23s-3/

Elsewhere, Shane McLoughlin and James Finnerty faced each other as Ipswich beat Aston Villa 2-1, while Anthony Breslin and Connor Ronan lined out for Wolves against Norwich, with Ronan earning an assist and Breslin involved in the build-up for one of the other goals: https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/under-23/20171106-late-canaries-double-stuns-wolves/

Not much going on tonight, but Reece Grego-Cox did continue his recent goal scoring form (after some recent absences), albeit as part of a pasting that QPR U23s received from Colchester (who had Eoin McKeown on their scorers' list - surely he must be eligible): https://www.qpr.co.uk/fixtures/under-23/2017/qpr-u23s-v-colchester-united-u23s/

Elsewhere, Dan Cleary, Corey O'Keeffe all lined out for Birmingham against Burnley, while Paudie O'Connor captained Leeds against Nottingham Forest

Judging by pictures, the lad McKeown has some African ethnicity. The first name would really lend itself to an Irish background. The second name is Irish too but the first provides the icing on the cake.

Kian Flanagan on target for Palace U23s tonight: https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2017/november/match-report-for-crystal-palace-u23-vs-watford-u23-on-13-nov-17/. Still only 18, and made his debut for their development team when he was only 15. His stats for last season were 14 appearances each for the U23s and U18s, with one goal for the U23s and 5 for the U18s - https://www.cpfc.co.uk/teams/u23-team/player3/kian-flanagan/

Only a handful of games at U23 level today, but a lot of Irish involvement in the scoring:

Irish-eligible (we think) Callum O'Hare scored Villa's opener in their 2-1 win over Norwich: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24126/premier-league-2/2017-18/norwich-v-aston-villa

Josh Barrett scored two for Reading against Stoke, bringing his tally to seven for the season, while Shola Ayoola got a consolation for Stoke: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24127/premier-league-2/2017-18/stoke-v-reading

Jonathan Afolabi was on target for Southampton in their 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24125/premier-league-2/2017-18/middlesbrough-v-southampton

Wow, good eye Liamoo, I didn't even spot that - that's fantastic progress from him, especially to make his debut a day after scoring for the 18s. I think he's fast becoming The One To Watch of our young strikers. Let's hope he keeps it up (and of course, doesn't get injured!)

A couple of updates as the PL2 teams start to wake from their holiday slumber:
Eoghan Stokes scored tonight and Paudie O'Connor also featured as Leeds U23s defeated Hull U23s. Will Keane scored for Hull U23s for the second time in two games since returning from injury: https://www.leedsunited.com/news/academy-news/22863/u23-report-leeds-united-4-3-hull-city

Jean-Yves Poame doesn't seem to have progressed much but he did make the bench for a recent Sunderland U23s game against Derby: https://www.premierleague.com/match/23090/premier-league-2/2017-18/sunderland-v-derby

Aaron Connolly was credited with an assist on Brighton U23s' goal in their 2-1 defeat at Reading: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24146/premier-league-2/2017-18/reading-v-brighton

That Paudie O'Connor lad from Limerick appears to be progressing nicely at Leeds. But there's a little bit of speculation here that he's slightly further down the ranks than he may like to be: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/01/02/what-does-leeds-uniteds-reported-move-for-aapo-halme-mean-for-pa/

I suppose it's not ideal for us either to have himself and Shaughnessy at the same club and position and similar age. Paudie is very young though. Let's see how the rest of the season pans out and there might be a loan move next season.

Aaron Drinan off the mark already for Ipswich U23s - very encouraging: https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2018/january/u23s-beat-qpr-3-0/

Coventry move Josh Barrett into their U23s - he responds by scoring a hat-trick: https://www.ccfc.co.uk/news/2018/january/report-sky-blues-u23-6-1-crystal-palace-u23/

Strange call by them re Barrett. He came.on for the last 15 minutes or so at the weekend.

Michael Obafemi returned to Southampton's U23s and got an assist against Stoke, Aaron O'Driscoll and Shola Ayoola also featured: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24155/premier-league-2/2017-18/tbc-v-tbc

glen mccauley made his debut for Liverpool 23s on Saturday

Very good news and well-deserved after 18 months of scoring regularly at U18 level. Joins all the other U18 strikers who have made the step-up to U23 level this year - Cassidy, Connolly, Afolabi, Idah and Obafemi.

Speaking of Obafemi, he was on the scoresheet for Southampton U23s tonight in a 5-1 victory over Newcastle - Aaron O'Driscoll played the full 90 and Thomas O'Connor played the last half-hour: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24170/premier-league-2/2017-18/newcastle-v-southampton

Jack Clarke and Jake Doyle-Hayes both featured as Aston Villa U23s hammered Wolves 6-1. https://www.premierleague.com/match/24169/premier-league-2/2017-18/tbc-v-tbc Callum O'Hare scored and got an assist but I guess our chances of snagging him are diminished since he accepted a call-up to England U20s in November (although Ciaran Clark did come on board after playing right up to that level)

Shane McLoughlin got another goal for Ipswich U23s but it wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat by Charlton: https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2018/february/town-lose-to-charlton/

Corey O'Keeffe, who was on the bench for Birmingham's senior team on Saturday, scored for their U23s against Crewe: https://www.bcfc.com/news/articles/2018/report-blues-under-23s-2-crewe-alexandra-under-23s-0/

Michael Obafemi got Southampton's goals in their 2-1 victory over Adam Idah's Norwich City: https://www.premierleague.com/match/24182/premier-league-2/2017-18/southampton-v-norwich. Amazing to think that Obafemi, still only 17, is actually younger than Idah. Maybe we should move him down to U17 level - a strikeforce of Obafemi, Idah, Cassidy and Parrott would be fantastic at that level, with the Elite Round coming up.
