He was fairly gracious, and very reserved about it. Points of views exchanged, differences of opinions, no hard feelings, wish them the best of luck, etc.

Seems to have gone a bit quiet on this, looks like Boland is heading into his 4th game as interim manager this weekend.

I think it was expected he would take us for 4 or 5 games. With the games coming thick and fast also it was probably right to leave him there for now. After Derry game the fixtures should settle down a bit for us.

So is it looking like an Irish manager, or someone from the domestic game, or are we casting a wider net ?

According to the senior soccer correspondent on 95fm it has to be the present mgt team ,who are in caretaker charge at the moment...he has been championing the Willie Boland,Tommy Barrett,Eddie Hickey ticket all week.

As much as I wanted someone with proper experience at first if we beat Galway with another good performance like the last two league games it would be hard to argue if the club gave it to Willie. In saying that if Willie was unsure about taking it I would still be all in for Baraclough.

If there is a way round the badges fair enough but ordinarily he cannot be given it. So far though he is clearly good enough. Definitely a future manager for us if not our next. Having said that, manager is the fastest ticket out of the club and Willie likely has a valuable role heading the academy first.

Fella who got the Sligo job was in for the Limerick job. Got no response to his application.

Doesn't look like it's gonna be Willie the way he was speaking in the leader.

Yeah, read as very cut and dry that he isn't in consideration, which would make sense if the coaching badges aren't there. Interviews starting this week.

Would probably be hoping that Rovers game is Willies last. Nothing at all against Willie but if he isn't taking it I'd hope it's done asap.

It actually has worked out quite well in retrospect. Replacing a manager mid-season is usually, by necessity, a quick process, whether its getting some one new in or handing the interim guy the reins permanently after a couple of good results. But Limerick had a very safe pair of hands ready to take the team who gave them the chance to undertake the application/selection process patiently, without being in a position to cloud the issue himself. Now whoever does come in has a team that has righted the ship to some extent, as opposed to one that is mired in the back half of the table.
The potential problem is that the players might struggle to adapt from Boland to the new manager whenever he is brought in, and that Boland himself might not fit in with a new guy's plans.

I'd say any new manager will bring with them an assistant at best, if even that. It's not like EPL where the whole backroom staff gets replaced.

I'd say Boland will be stepping back to the head of the Academy so not being in the new managers plans shouldn't be an issue.

Intelligent decision from Willie ,overall circumstances incl lack of badges not right for him at this time.........but ffs ,95fm,s senior soccer correspondent will be devastated given recent musings by him.

Why don't you just say his name? And you keep bringing up that he wanted Boland in as if it was some mental thing he was suggesting that maybe the chap who had gotten 7 points from 9 should get the job.

Think the rumour is new manager to be sorted by the weekend but Willie to still take the team for Sligo on Saturday.

Surely we are not stupid enough to bring in someone outside the league we need someone who knows this league and it's players

See I would argue that we absolutely need an outsider to bring in players in July

There is literally one candidate available in this country that I would wan't and that is Brian Kerr other than that name me one manager from inside the league that would be good enough?

I'd say Egypt is a quare place to work in fairness I wouldn't hold that against him.
Latest is he's been sent back anyway and the club will be going cheap and cheerful after all.

What a strange move that would be considering he has made it very clear it wouldn't be him in interviews after games and in the leader recently.

As Pat O Sullivan was told a few years ago up in Athlone when he was getting in Russell, Buy Cheap, Buy Twice.
Two years and a massive wad of cash later and we've progressed from being a dull midtable go nowhere team to a dull midtable go nowhere team.
Another omnishambles of an appointment process from the league of irelands omnishambles specialists.
I hope it all works out. I hope we go unbeaten the rest of the year and do the double.
But if I was Willie Boland the fact that no one on the board fancied me until they had a look in their pockets would give me pause for thought before I left my handy academy job.

I thought he said something like "mark my words in a few weeks time they will be sorry they didn't give it to him"?
LK37oldskool

Didn't pick it up that way myself. Not to say that's not what he said though. Appointing Willie would certainly be a cheaper option than some of the other names connected with the job. Ltid did say in an earlier post that they were going the cheap and cheerful route which would put Willie in the frame.

How?
Get somebody who has the badges to be the manager in name only or something?
Or photoshop and a printer?

Yep Tommy Barrett could be put in as manager but really just be for show Rovers did it last year with Bradley.

Following Limerick FC always takes me to strange places, like trying to determine where in African football the Kenyan and Ghanian leagues rank.
How long does it take to get coaching badges anyway?

In Willies case I think we are talking 2 years unless they can get him fast-tracked.

It would mean taking Tommy from the 19's and Willie from the 17's also which isn't really ideal I'd imagine.
