He has a decent CV. I'd imagine he'd have good contacts in the UK also. On paper he's the best of those linked with the job.

The new guy isn't going to have much time with the team ahead of Dundalk at this rate.

No white smoke this morning. What is the actual issue here? Contract negotiations maybe? Another late application?

It would want to be a good appointment now if they have taken this long to find Steve Watson for example its embarrassing.

And on that team he had about a dozen passengers
E I E I O
With a Turner here and a Kenny there
Here a Coughlan there a Brouder
Everywhere an O'Connor

Etc etc.

Maybe "Watson's team are cat" to the tune of "What's new pussycat"

Great stuff, the Sam Allardyce connection is a funny coincidence, which I'm sure much will be made of. Hopefully should see a decent crowd on Friday for first home match

Bio says he has been no2 a lot (granted at a high level) and got relegated in his one manager job. Maybe there are bits missing, but hardly anything to get too excited about, especially after 6 or 7 weeks. What's his football like?

Has had 3 managerial jobs got Carlisle to what was there best finish in 20 years at the time and took some Scandinavian team near the end of the season and kept them up, Blackpool a complete mess too when he took over he had 6 senior players.

Have yet to see an english manager/coach stay here longer than a year or two, this manager has excellent pedigree,experience....only a matter of time before he goes back hopefully leaving us in good shape..while he obviously wants to manage in his own right ,the offer for instance of a quality no.2 job in England etc wont be turned down.

But to open that door, he will have to have done well here, there's a lot riding on this for him too, but is a stepping stone job for him you'd imagine. These guys will have an eye on MON getting the NI job from Rovers etc, but if he gets us a Europa group stage run out he will be welcome to his walk off into the sunset.

Ya hadn't thought of that spot on tbf.

He seems to be held in high regard by some very good managers and clubs so you have to be happy with this appointment. Obviously most of us haven't a clue what way he will have us set up but he is in the game a long time so you'd expect us to be hard to beat at a minimum. Hopefully he can come in and light a bit of a fire under the team. At the moment we are not playing as well as we could be but are still mid-table. I wouldn't worry too much about us being a stepping stone because if you want to move across and get a very good job you will have to have us performing. Failing in the LOI wouldn't look great from an english football perspective.

Had a gander at a few Blackpool fan forums, man, they did not think well of McDonald when he left. The complaints - overspending on bad players, tactical naivety, terrible fan/press relations - do give me a bit of pause, but then again Blackpool are a team that have had nearly ten managers in 5 years, so there's a deeper rot there. Carlisle fans a good bit more complimentary, there was some kind of falling out with ownership there after a decent first season in charge.

Falling out with ownership....that's a relief, no chance of that happening here.

Group Stage!!!! I'd be thrilled with a first round run out. Almost 35 years since I (or anyone else) saw Limerick in Europe.

Dude, I'm happy bobbling along in mid table for a bit after the things I've seen here in those 35 years :) But lets face it, Dundalk were a mess as big as us not too long ago & any kind European ball would be something special. And the league is open, you don't need to be particularly good to get a European spot, consistency will get you it. What that means when you come up against a European side though is a different matter ..

Yeah. I'd go so far as to say that this season there is very little separating 12th from 2nd in a lot of ways (that is to say, they all seem capable of getting a result off the other without it being a gigantic shock).

As a fan of some 25 years I can promise you that if Limerick ever qualify for Europe it will pan out as follows:

We will draw Glenavon.

We will lose 2 0 on aggregate.

Really hope this works out. Plenty of clubs on the CV, but I just read that one successful manager job at Carlisle was 10 years ago and only lasted a year. Best of luck to the fella though.
