isnt it invitation. I know in our non league days in 83 and 84 we got an invitation from the FAI to participate in the League Cup that season.

Regional league winners I think. Mayo league are invited after that because Connaught can't get it's act together.

Correct - Bluebell, Avondale and Cockhill are LSL, MSL and USL winners.

But aren't the MSL and the LSL glorified Cork/Dublin leagues?

And the USL is just a Donegal League.

There's very little in Leinster outside Dublin. A couple of teams around Wexford and Kilkenny but while they seem to be well able to beat Shamrock Rovers I'm not sure any of them would be up to LSL standard. Bigger issue in LSL is probably the fact Sheriff aren't in it.

What's the alternative? I suppose Munster has that Champions Cup that Abbeyfeale won. Don't know about other equivalents.

It'd be nice if there were province-wide competitions in all four parts of the country but realistically there'd need to be subsidies. Dunboyne and Arklow are there or thereabouts in the second tier but really there's no incentive for the likes of North End United to join.

Athlone away tonight, can't make it due to work but really not arsed about the result either way. Once we beat athlone 4 times in the league I'm happy.

Another Davy O'Sullivan El Classico hat trick, his second in the space of a few weeks. Another bit of history for him. Now Davy if you wouldn't mind one or two against the other teams that would be great.

that is the third time in el classico history that a hattrick from athlone and longford has being scored. We have scored two hattricks to Athlones one which would be the mid 80s.

Another win for a much changed Blues side tonight. Owen Wall is one to watch. Made he's senior debut at 16 last year and came off the bench tonight to score twice at just 17, already on a first team contract. Six unbeaten now in all competitions with five clean sheets.

Draw for next round:
Limerick/Cork
Waterford/Cobh
Galway/Derry
Finn Harps/Sligo
Pats/Bray
Dundalk/UCD
Shamrock Rovers/Bohs
Shels/Longford
Shams/Bohs obviously the pick of them. Will be interesting to see if Limerick have learned anything from Cork.

I think the last time we played City in this was around 2007? Hadn't given it much thought until you mentioned it.

I think its longer than that but could be wrong. We haven't played competitively at all since 2008.

Mixture of Waterford been quite good and Wexford been quite bad. A 17 year old scored twice off the bench and it was more or less a second team on display.

Jeez let it go , your top of the league !!
Happy thoughts only.
Speaking of battering according to the limited highlights Derry were unbelievably unlucky to lose to Bray , think they are about to be your toughest match yet (aside from the battering we gave you), win that and a clean sweep of the first 11 is a real possibility.

Haha I'm only buzzing with ya
I reckon it will be our toughest game so far, the first game back after what happened Ryan was always going to be a hard one for them, but they will be well up for this one and we'll have to be at our best to get the points. Think 8 consecutive wins to start the season is a league record if I'm correct?
