I'd be worried if I was a Sligo fan.

Based on a pre season friendly a month before the season starts?

I reckon Sligo will do a Derry this year, dark horses

Forget about the results, where is the social media commentary on the tackles?

Thankfully, immature posts of self performed wreckless tackles are few and far between.

A recent, isolated occurance of this kind of activity can be put down to little brother syndrome.

Looked very ordinary tonight. They keep the ball well, I'd say they had 75% of the possession tonight but they do absolutely nothing with it. Without Sadlier they would be extremely ordinary. Maybe in a few weeks the likes of Stephens will start firing up front but if he doesn't I don't see them scoring many goals.

Not sure whether you mean going bust and starting again or moving out of their home city to play games with this comment.

Ha, no I mean they’ll have a good season like Derry did last season and qualify for Europe

Nah Nah Nah Nah

I long for the days when we were hammering everyone in pre-season under Heary.

Plenty of time for our lads to sort themselves out (I hope). Sure we didn't win any of our first 8 league games last year and we were OK.

Midfield ye will be fine, well able to pass and get forward but up front ye don't seem to have a striker that will score 10 plus goals let alone 20 while at the back i know last night was only a friendly but to concede from 3 set pieces is amateur. Cretaro injured? Seen him in the Stand last night.

It's all over! Stunning giant killing win for LTFC over glamour side Sligo Rovers. 3-2 in an apparently cauldron like atmosphere at the CCS.

Good to have the football back though, the usual pre season optimism is taking hold. How did The Galway lads do Enda Curran and Stephen Walsh?

Curran was very quiet, have a feeling he could be quite frustrating at times. Walsh is a touch of class, loves to step out and pass it and he's solid as anything, especially in the air. Scored a clever back header.

Don't think Raf is injured (well not seriously). Yeah I don't think the pre-season has gone too well but I generally don't read too much into pre-season. Have seen us have good seasons after bad pre-seasons and vice versa.

Dundalk were beaten 2-0 by Espanyol B this morning.

Michael Duffy made his debut, while Paddy McCourt played as the lone striker.

I assume that was to ensure McCourt had to do as much running as possible rather than some tactical innovation? He never struck me as a potential target man.

I'd say it is to assess whether he could cover that position as Dundalk only have two recognised strikers in the squad.

McMillan rarely pays as a target man anyway.

True. he's not a target man in the sense that they launch high balls up to him, that's not Dundalk's style, but I was struck by just how good McMillan was last season in the european games with his back to goal. Especially the home matches against BATE, Legia and Maccabi he was outstanding at taking the ball in, shielding it and then bringing the advancing midfielders into play. Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt McCourt could ever play that role.

That's exactly the strength of McMillan, playing almost a 'five a side' role with quick one touches on the ground, back to goal, then quick turn to time his run into the box. He just needs to be a little bit more clinical, but overall he's a very important player to how Dundalk play, it was definitely a worry that he wouldn't sign for this exact reason.

SK seems to be taking his time to decide about McCourt, that's for sure. The match itself sounded like a decent workout for Dundalk, then again what's not to like about the Barcelona region anytime of the year.

Cork lads, are you boys heading abroad for pre season ? I think I read that only Dundalk and Rovers are abroad this pre season?

I am pretty sure we were drawn away. There was speculation that Waterford would give up home advantage and allow the friendly on the 17th to double as the semi final. Obviously that no longer applies.

How did he get on? Played with our underage.

Only got the last twenty minutes, so not a huge amount of evidence to go on, but did well considering he was outmatched physically by most around him.

He played against Wilton last Sunday in the MSC in what was effectively the u19 team, and was one of the few to impress in a game where they were all physically outmatched (except young Rea, who is a chip off the old block). Reads the game well, and likes a tackle. Distribution is also good.

McClean and the few Cork lads look like they're clearly having a bitta banter. Get over it. Jesus if a decision costs ye a point this year, ye'll still be talking about it in 20 years....
