Jason nowhere near good enough for premier football first division is his level with the likes of athlone or cabinteely

Jason is a better option as a squad player than clyde o connell Val feeney Ross Mann colm Murphy Tony whitehead garbhan coughlan and Sean mcsweeney off the top of my head.
If signed he would absolutely be an improvement to the squad.

Ah stop he is above the level of Athlone and Cabo 100% showed that in his time with us in premier and his time with Sligo.

Well lads any word from pre season training? Any 6 foot centre forwards from the UK smashing in headers etc

Worrying that he's not that good and this is still true.

There was this one 6 2' lad who scored 43 goals in the first 20 minutes.
Russell immediately sent him home and has replaced him with two fancy midgets who didn't actually do anything but what they did do they did it the right way.

You think the club would of learned from the last premier league experience with 3 been relegated as it stands now we will be one of them unless there is significantly quality injected into this team.

Squad at the minute:
Keepers: Freddy Hall, Brendan Clarke
Defenders: Shaun Kelly,Tony Whitehead,David O'Connor, Robbie Williams, Shane Tracy
Midfielders: Stephen Kenny,Lee J Lynch, Shane Duggan,Paul O'Conor,Clyde O'Connell,Ian Turner
Strikers: Dean Clarke,Chris Mulhall,Garbhan Coughlan
Back to pre season training now and so far there is no improvement at all from last year. I think the majority on here said at the end of last season that we needed a LB,CB,Winger and 2 strikers at least so far we still need all of those really don't we? I'm still not at panic stations yet but we need these fellas from the UK to come soon and be very good quality.

One positive I saw at first day of training is Robbie looks in a lot better shape than he did last season.

Things are going to improve soon as Darrah Rainsford is training with the squad. There's our quality striker!

Looking at that squad we desperately need two strikers especially when you consider Dean Clarke will more than likely be a winger for us. I thought John O'Flynn was re-signing but no sign of him yet either.

Keepers: sorted
Defence: We need to bring in better players than we have. Some of those are subs at best.
Midfield: We need to bring in some back-up.
Attack: We need to bring in better players than we have. Not a genuine striker amongst them at the moment.
Some of the lads that would be starting as the squad stands are not good enough to be starters. We need to bring in players, and not just squad players, but a few players that would be central team members.
I'm not optimistic that we'll do that.

Been reading this thread for a while and decided to add my tuppence worth. Even if it just to reiterate what people have been saying.
Like most people on here i'm worried by our lack of transfer activity. Turner and Clarke are decent additions but we know that they're not going to cut it if we're seriously going to achieve a decent league position.
Paudie O'Connor is a strange one. He's a player with potential to play at a decent level in England but at the moment I think he is seriously delusional if he thinks he can make the move now. He needs to challenge himself at Premier division LOI level before he can even think of moving to somewhere in England.
I think losing Aaron Greene will be massive for us. I was really impressed with him last year. Granted he fell away towards the end of the year but he has premier league quality and not keeping him shows a lack of ambition from the club.
As things stand I think we'll be in a relegation battle. The defence is a major concern as is the lack of a proven goalscorer at this level. Despite he's injuries i think John O'Flynn needs to be signed up. Even just to offer an option from the bench. I was also disappointed we didn't go for Mark O'Sullivan. He would have been an excellent target man for the year. Losing Sean Russell now means we don't have decent options from the bench.
I'm afraid Martin Russell will need to pull off some decent transfers from the UK in the next few weeks if we're going to go anywhere this season.

WHY AREN'T WE SIGNING NEW PLAYERS????
1. Is there money available???
2. Are we even pursuing players and offering attractive contracts???
3. Can Russell attract players he has never worked with before??
4. Is Limerick FC as a club just not attractive enough to potential signings??
5. Is Russell happy with what he has got??
Clarke and O Connor are the only players we have gotten in that haven't played here before. Surely the Markets Field is a good selling point for the club plus a chairman that makes sure his players are always paid etc so why isn't it happening??

My point is last time we were in premier there was something wrong aswell we had no money lol.
Now we are been told by the club there is money there were are the players??
With 3 teams going down surely it's not right that the club are still miles short in every area of the pitch surely they see your bray and harps etc strengthening they know we are in trouble here.

Players in 'not falling over themselves to sign for newly promoted team' shocker. We need to cut our cloth a little, less Christy Fagan, more Danny North I'm afraid.

How much do you honestly think us being newly promoted stops people signing for us in the LOI? Very little at all I reckon.

Loads. Absolutely loads. I don't care how much you can guarantee a McMillain that his wages will be paid on time, he won't be signing for Limerick. And who needs him, we have Jason ****ing Hughes.

I highly doubt it tbh you offer em enough money and they will be playing here I'd be fairly sure. Loads of reasons that people might not come here being newly promoted is near the bottom I imagine it means nothing at all. With so much turnover a newly promoted team could get into Europe their first season up with the right money and manager.

I tend to agree. If the money really was there, it shouldn't be too hard to pitch to a player that Limerick could be challenging for Europe within a season or two. I'd say a lot of clubs try to make themselves look like a Dundalk in waiting. If there is an attractiveness problem to playing for Limerick, I don't think its to do with the club's immediate prospects.

Pats Harps and Drogs all making decent signings today, meanwhile it seems like absolutely nothing happening with us. I was told there was supposed to be some movement today but it didn't happen now I am told it may be tomorrow someone might be arriving. If they are not here soon my hope will die a quick death.

One for Gary Spain:
Have Limerick FC ever put together two back to back good progressive years?
I'm around it nearly 25 years and I'm struggling??
I suppose maybe scullys last year into Taylor's first year was solid progress but we were hacking away at that with an axe by the end of the second year.

1st division title and promotion under Allardyce followed by 6th place in the 'top half' of the split and a League Cup win would be an example.
We got relegated the following season though.

Unfortunately probably the last examples. Big Sam really worked a miracle though as there was no investment that season. We had a really good side under Noel King with money but it all fell away.
In the 1980's the club and players were better than some of the seasons suggest. Challenged for the title in 83/84 but fell away. should have reached the Cup final and Europe in 1985 (still hurts). 88/89 we were really good but Derry won the treble - Drogheda cup shock probably cost us Europe. Once the Graces left it was downhill with the club just trying to survive.

If we can keep that squad together no reason why we can't get promotion in 2018

At what stage does it become more sane to be worried rather than positive.

Hard to know what the story is at the moment. If the club are trying hard to sign decent players and just can't convince them to sign or they decide to go elsewhere their isn't a whole pile they can do. If they are not trying very hard and are looking at cheaper options or players that have played before with us and struggled then questions need to be asked.

Woo Pat Scully and Jow Gamble to take over half way through the season for another attempt at "The Great Escape". Interesting...

I was fine with the going for great players and just losing out at the start but its getting to the stage now where questions need to be asked why there weren't more realistic alternatives being considered too. Missing out on a great player and ending up with a good one is fine but missing out on a great player and ending up with some crap one or nothing at all is utter stupidity on someones part. Russell said in November he was looking to England for players so he has had 2 months to go and get em that means the whole we are just back to pre season thing is no excuse at all 2 months and not a single sign of anyone from England being around the place and in that time we have either not bothered to get in touch with or turned down the chance to sign decent LOI players including strikers which we are in desperate need of.
I am trying my best to be positive and stay positive but its getting harder and harder. No social media stuff at all from the club to get any kind of buzz going for the new season not even a pre season game announced yet no sign of these players from England and the quality of the trialists we have had in and the second 11 in the game the other morning is hardly inspiring. Its really hard to stay positive when almost everything about this pre season is the same as the season we went down its scarily similar so far. I won't write the season off just yet I still think we are 4 good signings away from a very good season and I will hold out hope for another while that they will come but my god fans need a bit of good news soon.

So in your opinion, would the present squad stay up even ?
I am club side on this usually, on here. Very much. I keep hoping they will suddenly unveil three exciting players together one day to boost everyone but it's not happened so far.

If we had luck with injuries we could stay up I reckon but one or two key players get injured at the minute and we are gone.

What are the chances of our best 11 staying injury free for the season...with the squad the way it is at the moment we're down but I also heard today that there are signings lined up....maybe it's true this time

As we are, we would stay up, even with 3 going down. Obviously hoping for the last few squad members to improve the quality and push us up the table.

That unnerves me a bit. Who covers the club social media, and why aren't they posting? Is anyone doing it? POS would be better served handling the marketing side of the club than writing out grandiose Christmas messages.
