Should be a packed house in Ballingarry tomorrow evening. I think St Michaels will edge it but I hope I'm wrong.

2-1 to Michael's at half time. Joe McAuliffe gave Broadford an early lead and Broadford were on top for the first 10 minutes but Michael's have dominated since then.

Johnnie C
22/04/2017, 6:33 PM
Full time, 4-2 to St Michael's. They went 3-1 up early in second half but to Broadford's credit they fought their way back into the game and Barry Lynch made it 3-2. Michael's scored a fourth just before the final whistle.

Have been hearing an interesting topic last few days , apparently rovers and Ncw AFC will be amalgamated next season across the board? If this is true how will it leave the premier division. Will only 9 teams compete or will 3rd place in div.1 get promoted or will 9th in the premier get a reprieve

Langerdan007
25/04/2017, 9:28 AM
Robot with NCW currently looking like going down I dont think that would effect the Premier (You'll still have Granagh and Shannonside promoted) but it would effect Div 1 - I would imagine the easiest thing would be to give 9th in Div 1 a reprieve and only relegate one team in that division to make up the difference

Shearer
25/04/2017, 11:18 AM
As before, the title is completely in Rathkeale's hands. Broadford are their only threat now but even if they were to win their remaining six games Rathkeale would only need 8 points from their last twelve.

In regards to the whole Newcastle West amalgamation, I would imagine that AFC will be really pushing for it now to save their blushes from their inevitable relegation at this stage. To the best of my knowledge the team that finishes third in Division One will be promoted and currently it's a three way dance between Breska Rovers, Abbeyfeale United B and Glantine who are all level on points with a game remaining although Abbey cannot be promoted

Fair play to Feenagh who are taking it to the last day of the season in their relegation battle. If they can Breska (very possible) and Rathkeale B lose to Granagh (also very possible) it will go to a playoff.

Ya fair play to Feenagh - they've gone on some run but what I wondered was, what happened for the first 3/4 of the season? Johnnie C do you have any link to them or have I imagined that?

Shearer the premier only needs an extra team if NCW do what looks like the impossible and stay up - they do have Killeaney & Ballingarry who they have to beat but they'd prob need 2 wins from Rathkeale/Broadford/Abbey - if they're relegated it'll be Division 1 thats short a team

I would imagine three teams would go up from Division Two and Three.

After being hammered in Reidy Cup semi by Creeves ( played second half with 10 players cause only one sub and he already used) relegation seemed a formality but credit to the lads they've gone on a good run since and still have a chance to survive going into last game.
The season has obviously been a huge let down given that we finished third and reached League Cup Final previous season. Two key players from last season are not involved this season ( concentrated on Gaelic with Drom Broadford) and that allied to a poor start saw interest levels wane with a few others.

Here's my theory on what will happen with the divisions in the event of the likely amalgamation of Newcastle teams...
(All this is assuming NCW A go down to division 1)
So if there were no mention of amalgamation next year would see Rovers A in the Premier, NCW A in Division 1 and both B teams would be in Division 2.
My guess is if they join the Desmond League will ask them to fill in the gap remaining in Division 1 to keep things smooth.
Newcastle (United) A in premier, Newcastle (United) B in Division 1 and Newcastle (United) C in division 2.
It'll ultimately be up to themselves if they want to enter their B team in Division 1, I personally think they'd be better off letting their B team in Division 2 and enter a C team in Division 3.
If they do that most likely the 9th place team in Division 1 will be a) Offered a reprieve, b) Told to playoff with 3rd place in Division 2.
Something will have to be done as above in Division 2 regardless of what divisions Newcastle end up in because its losing a team either way they go about it.
They won't want to roll with 9 in a division.

That's right boys, I just dropped some knowledge....

i heard that as well yesterday shearer, how would that work though considering killeaney are in premier but bally are division 2 what league would they go into then?

Shearer

I think they'd go straight to the Premier (unless they wanted to start off in Division Two of course). Provided that Killeaney avoid the drop.

Can there be any doubt now that this Abbeyfeale team is the greatest the Desmond league has ever seen?

I mean todays win combined with practically single handedly wining the Oscar Traynor a few years back.

Can now concentrate on winning a 3rd league title on the bounce

Massive weekend of soccer ahead with the Desmond Cup Semi Finals. Definitely the best pairings in 20 years. On Friday the current champions are up against it against a rampant Rathkeale while on Saturday the greatest Desmond League team of all time might just have enough for Broadford. A defeat for Abbey would be disastrous with only the league cup final left after last weeks defeat to Rathkeale

Glin 1 Rathkeale 1 (Glin win 6-5 on penalties)
Entertaining game , scoreless at ht, Glin took lead 20 minutes into second half with penalty, Declan Nash equalized with header.
Rathkeale enjoyed a lot of possession but Lyons made a number of good saves to see it go to penalties. all sides scored until the 12th penalty when the rathkeale no 11 had the misfortune of hitting the crossbar.
It was after all a fiver in, about 200 there three quarters of whom seemed to be from Glin.

Ya 5 euro made sense.decent enough game. Thought ratkeale would be better, I seen them twice this year. Once at home to Abbey and last nite, they have not impressed me at all.poor in midfield where it matters wit one of there centre mids having very little pace.. Well done to glin though.. tonight game shur be a cracker. Two of the best footballing teams in Desmond leg for quiet a while..i would favour Bradford to get through if rumours about Abbey players injury list are through.. Bradford were impressive last wk in spells.. hopefully weather will not ruin the game...pitch is in great shape also ..

Broadford 2 Abbeyfeale 0
Broadford just about shaded the encounter. Michael Brosnan had Broadford 1-0 up at the break. Abbey had quite an amount of the ball in the second half but never really threatened. Michael Brosnan added a second in injury time to seal the deal. Clounreask Pitch was in top order , very small crowd , hardly a hundred there tonight.

Whatever few were there last night were with Broadford, there wasnt twenty people from Abbeyfeale there sad to say.
Drom/Broadford played last night as well probably didnt help. Abbeyfeale no excuse( fleadh maybe ?). Interesting the amount of players that choose soccer over football this weekend albeit it was a semi final as against a group football game. More and more players saying they enjoy soccer more than the borefest gaelic football in Limerick has become. To be fair Hurling is different as even if most teams are junior its exciting and skillful enough stuff and looks enjoyable to play.
The public though for some strange reason still go to be bored to death at football matchs. If Abbey & Drom Broadford met last night in a football semi final there would be 1500 there

Good to hear that lads prioritised soccer over Gaelic at the weekend, it was a cup semi final after all. There was a big crowd at the MJC semi but if a club/league couldn't get a crowd for that you might as well forget about it. Some 14 minutes of highlights of Broadford v St Michael's game are on Full Time Productions Facebook page. The Desmond and Premier League Cup finals should be well attended you'd imagine. Some season Shountrade are having as well, 2 cups in the bag and now another cup final appearance on the way

Personally I think low attendances is down to the venue. Clonreask has great playing surface and facilities however it's in the middle of nowhere. Take last year's cup final in newcastlewest as an example great crowd and great atmosphere.
