Than an Man Utd fan from Ireland?

"I've supported them because my great grandad and his grandad all were die hards."

"I have each of the last 45 jerseys since football began in 1990."

"My dad has brought me to see them beat Charlton every season since 1999"

"Roy Keane (Keano boy) is the greatest person in the world, better than Viera, Gerrard and even Eamon Dunphy"

"I've never seen Utd play outside Old trafford because The Evening Herald doesn't advertise trips there"

"I can name every United player sice Brucey scored that goal on RTE versus Sheff Wed"

"I hate scousers, they cheat and have no jobs (heard some fans singing about them on TV3 when they played Kiev away)"

"Wenger is a winger"

Well in the course of my research for my thesis last year I discovered that about 75% of primary school kids support Man Yoo so don't expect the problem to disappear in the short term.

hopefully Glazer buys them and sells them to the NASA for research purposes.

.....and you think if United are bankrupted by a cash-strapped American idiot there won't be another football club to step in and take their mantle. Where do you're own allegiances lie anyway, do you dislike United because you see kids turning away from the EL, or what is it?

As a born and bred manc I have some sympathy with both sides of the arguement.

However, to me there is no difference between Irish United fans and another foreign club supporting Irish people. One set of barstoolers aren't somehow more knowledgable or "better" than another.

One thing worse than any of that list though is...

Oirish Arsenal/Liverpool/Siddy/Chelsea (infact any one who supports another English/Scottish team) taking the píss about United having no fans in Manchester and failing to see the irony that many have never visited the place of the team they proclaim to support, let alone actually "come from" there.

PS a few facts:
1) United have always had a tradition (rightly or wrongly) of a strong Irish following - it simple isn't a post 93 thing

2) Scousers are cheats and workshy.

3) Wenger is a Whinger

It'd be pie, chips and mushy peas. Better than jellied eels, and drinking a "cap" of tea anyday of the week.

Celtic fans are probably worse Brice, coz they think that Glasgow is in Ireland. At least Man Yoo fans know that Manchester is in a different country.

Great first post!

Substitute manure for liverpool and you have same problem.

Friend of mine thinks they should be all blowtorched!! Bit extreme but IMO they are a disgrace.

Ask one of them "If Ireland were playing england who would you support?" When they answer Ireland then ask "If manure were playing an Irish club who would you support?" When they answer manure point out the hypocrisy.

More hypocrisy is when they slag off the EL. They dont seem to understand that our league would improve if, instead of spending thousands of sterling annually, they actually supported their local club.

They are all sheep too. The real reason they "support" manure or wankpool is because EVERYONE ELSE DOES. How pathetic. Look at that west brit rag known as the herald on a wednesday. A whole page dedicated to muppets like york supporters club Ireland FFS.

Bottom line if you're Irish support an Irish club.

fair point hoop

i think that the standard of footie in Ireland is poor though. As a rovers fan i'm sure you are more aware than most of that (no dig intended there)
The 3rd placed team in our league played rovers in a pre season 2 years ago and only lost 2-0

The glamour of the epl is a big draw against that backdrop.

That's exactly what I hate.

I mean, I'm in no position to knock anyone who follows a foreign team. Have been to a few Leeds United games, and follow them, and also delighted to see Barca at the top of the Spanish League.

It's the crowd that sneer at the game here, no matter what club they like abroad, that I hate.

That's because they're sheep. If andy gray said jump into a barrel of paint they'd do it. They sneer at the league cos it's popular with the other muppets in the boozer.

Any english jersies that are sold to santa should be €100 with half the price going to the local EL team as a sort of tax :D

I think it's only natural for an Irish person who genuinely loves/likes/has an interest in football to follow what goes on in England. The standard of football is quite good (albeit a bit down the rankings on a worldwide level) and it's the nearest top class league to us. The games are good to watch.

What I now don't understand is how people develop this wholehearted sense of belonging to one of the clubs there. I say 'now' because years ago, i was the same. And just because it was handed down to me from my brother. I realise of course that the feeling of being part of or belonging to a club is far more real when you can see the team in action on a regular basis. They play, train and live in areas you know and can relate to. And they represent a place you love. It's not an arbitrary choice of club. People that you know and love are being represented by this club so it's almost that you have a duty to support it.
