For arguments sake, I’ll engage:
I’ve never witnessed more racism anywhere in the world than I saw in South America, particularly in Chile and Argentina. Was heartbreaking. These bright young Haitian refugees who were just teenagers being treated like they were subhuman. Of all the places in the world, how the **** did the end up in a place that treats them so appallingly?
Racism is mostly to do with education and up-bringing and it’s also somewhat cultural. I don’t believe for a second it’s about improving incomes and reduced sensitivity or globalisation.
From what I’ve seen in Ireland, speaking in generalisations, racism is most often found in the areas where there is the most socio-economic depravation - and also certain parts of rural Ireland where there is an overwhelming fear of the other.

hey pal isnt James McClean getting abused in England week in and out because of his irishness. Diego Maradona was the most abused and insulted footballer in football history. Do you know he has a close irish friend? Colin Farrell.
For a WUM you're especially strange, I'll give you that.

ive met some guys from Haiti living in greater Buenos Aires province all of them they told me that they came from the upper class of Haití because only the riches can study.
Actually i play football with one of them. He is studying in one of our free universities in the greater Buenos Aires. We have a lot of students from a lot of countries because the best universities here are free of charge, which it is an achievement of peronism and its social base.
Studying and Learning at a university is a human right in Argentina.. In Argentina most of the riches, they complaint because they evade taxes and dont wanna pay what they should.
Dont know were you've been but it sounds you have been with the upper class of BS.AS.capital city, or with people from the northern corridor of the greater buenos aires, Olivos, Vicente Lopez, San Isidro, Martínez and San Fernando where the upper class live.
Working class Argentina in the suburbs is very much side by side with people from Haití.
Regarding Chile the wealthy upper class is very racist and elitist. Chile is a very uneven unequal country.

Probably for the best, he's a solid Championship performer but was going to get next to no game time with Fulham this season.

You can never tell with these things whether it's agent talk or if there's actually something in it. I suppose Serie A is probably weak enough outside of the top six or seven teams that it's not beyond possibility that he could go there. Probably just agent talk all the same and he'll end up at Stoke or Birmingham or somewhere like that.

Bottom half Italian teams are known to make these kind of signings as the don’t have the money to compete with the Bundesliga, PL or Serie A

Well, Bologna have just offloaded rightback Takehiro Tomiyasu to Arsenal (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/aug/31/arsenal-agree-17m-deal-to-sign-bologna-defender-takehiro-tomiyasu)and trousered Ł17m for postage and packaging, and Burnley have given Welsh rightback Connor Roberts a geansai and four year (https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/content/connor-clocks-on) deal so that means ... Stoke, yeah, Stoke. Probably. Would like to see him in Serie A all the same.

That could be a good move for Christie, if there's anything to it. Most of the players I can think of who have moved from England to Italy in the past few years have boosted their reputation of had an Indian summer. I think the level is a little lower there, but it'd be a step up from the Championship.

No, he didn't. Perhaps it was just as well, given the premature birth of his daughter and illness of his partner last autumn. Cyrus Christie interview: Prematurely born daughter changed my outlook, I can’t let Fulham exile break me down | Evening Standard (https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/cyrus-christie-exclusive-interview-fulham-b973134.html)
Now linked with a transfer to Blackburn or Cardiff, as he is out of contract this summer -- and the Bologna rumour persists, with Elche thrown in for good measure! (The 72, 1 January).

A move to Swansea (whose right-back Ethan Laird was recalled by Man U) was being reported earlier today (Planet Swans, The 72, 12 Jan), but it seems to have collapsed during the afternoon (Wales Online).
The loan to swansea has now gone through after all.

Nice move, hopefully he gets plenty of game time. With Coleman seemingly on the demise unfortunately and Doherty struggling, RB could become an open position in the coming couple of years.

Straight into the team. Right wing back. Manning left wing back. Obafemi on the bench.
Good few starts in the Championship today actually. Knight, Ebosele, Egan, McGoldrick, O'Dowda, Connolly, McNamara, Taylor, Szmodics, Shipley, Browne, Cunningham, Dunne, Molumby and Robinson.
That's on top of McGuinness, Collins, Lenihan and Travers in the earlier kick offs.
That's 20 players up for selection (excluding McGoldrick) and there's a team in that.

I don't have an issue with that. It's probably a timing thing too. How many of those younger lads can progress? Knight, Ebosele, McGuinness, Taylor, Connolly, McNamara, Travers, Dunne and Molumby are young and bright that some of them might push on.
Egan, Robinson and Lenihan are older players that are probably in that grey area between being good enough for a promoted Premiership side and being a good Championship player.

Seán Maguire and Scott Hogan on as subs in Preston v Birmingham too - as is Jobe Bellingham, Jude's younger brother. Turned 16 in September and on for his league debut. He's their second youngest player ever, after his brother.
England are going to win something in the next few years unfortunately...

The Championship is, in relative terms, of an extremely good standard; one of the strongest in Europe by most metrics, outwith the big 5 or 6.
A strong Irish presence in that league can only be a good thing.
The great Irish Italia '90 squad that made the Quarter-Finals had 9 of the 22 playing playing outside the top-flight, by the way.

Quick note - the legendary 1990 World Cup Squad had only 12 players in the English top tier plus Aldridge in La Liga - 2 were playing for Celtic, six were in the old Second Division and John Byrne was with Le Havre in the second level of the French system. And this was long before the Bosman ruling and the influx of players from Europe, South America and Africa

In fairness, of the six in the Second Division, only Moran was really getting game time. Peyton, McLoughlin, Stapleton, Kelly and Slaven weren't. We've more third tier players than that these days. (And of course the changes in the game since then make it very hard to compare second tier then v second tier now)
12 players in the Premier League (seven across the top four clubs, and key players too), two in La Liga and one in France - we'd be delighted with that squad these days!

Goal and an assist for Christie today who is impressing on loan. His assist was for Obafemi’s goal.

Comes across very well, and I have felt that he’s been unfairly criticised at times. Apart from O’Neill’s ill judged decision to play him in midfield, he’s never let us down. Honest pro and decent human being. Good on him.

And yet he didn't do too bad in midfield compared to the others that played that Nations League campaign. Though it doesn't say much because we were poor. Battered by Wales and then parked the bus to avoid being spanked by Denmark.
At the time the environment was hostile. You had the Roy Keane situation, talks that players had lost confidence in MON and many fans calling for change. Christie just happened to get caught in the middle of it when MON decided to play him in midfield after that Wales battering and him only finding out when he arrived at the stadium. Which shows it wasn't even worked on in training.
Obafemi and Christie linking up for the third goal. Obafemi also got the assist for the second goal.

Two excellent posts from February. I also don't understand why Christie has often been glibly parked in the not-good-enough basket. That midfield misadventure was not of his making - played at full-back or wing-back he's a skilful and creative option for Ireland.

I think he was dismissed here long before he was played in midfield. I always thought his pace was an asset in attack, and if it weren't for Coleman he'd have a lot more caps and be acknowledged as a decent player. Some players are just stuck being compared with someone else.

While Swansea would have liked to sign Christie after his very successful loan spell, it's reported that the gap between his salary expectations and Swansea's budget may see him going instead to Nottingham Forest or Watford (FLW, 20 May)-- or further afield?

Close to joining Preston, according to reports. What would they be wanting with another right wingback when they already have Browne?
