I reckon the result tonight confirms Brays premier league status for next season. UCD and Athlone fighting it out for the playoff spot

There is no fight. Athlone need one point from three games. Once they get that, they should rest everyone so they have their best team for the playoff.

Providing UCD don't get any points?

You obviously haven't seen UCD recently. Against us last week they didn't seem bothered that they are close to the drop. I can't see them getting another point this season.

You say that like there's a possibility they will get some points.

Why? When was the last time they scored a goal?

Against Limerick of course. Ucd wil ship a minimum of ten goals in their necttwo games vs cork and derry

Lets hope its Galway all the way for attendances & better ground facilities, plus a nicer place to visit for away fans! :bashful:

Shels, Bray & UCD are just fodder. :(

I see no prospect of UCD getting anything against Drogheda, or any other team.

After watching Soccer Republic last night, UCD seem pretty woeful alright. Athlone certainly didn't cover themselves in glory with their defending either, but at least still look like they're showing some fight.

Still think athlone will overtake UCD incredible result for them tonight. Galway will be a tough nut to crack tho but going on previous form you've got to fancy the premier side to Nick it over 2 legs.

Eugh. That's all I can say. We really suck in Playoffs. I would prefer Athlone to come down because I can see UCD then winning the FD next year and another playoff. And on and on and on and on...

I wonder how much our manager being suspended for the next two games will help us?

Something not right if the stories of the Rovers game are anything to go by. First game suspended - win in Derry.

Granted, we've a great record in Derry, but still, bit too much of a coincidence.

Galway/Shels presumably would have rather us and Athlone kept losing till the end of the season. If we get a bit of form, the play-offs may even be competitive.

Would definitely rather meet UCD than Athlone, but obviously our first aim is to finish Shels off. Our own run of form is pretty good, having not lost a match since August 8th, when Dundalk knocked us out of the cup 2-1 in Oriel.

Funnily enough if we play you both managers will be suspended for the first leg.

As you say it would have been better to be playing a team on a run of defeats but looks like the Prem team will have won 2 in a row to make playoffs. Still would fancy our chances against you, not so sure about Athlone but crowds would be massive home and away for those.

Will Galway bring many fans to Tolka for the 2nd Leg v Shels?

Already two buses going. Add in Dublin based fans there will definitly be around 100 from Galway if not more

Should be a good few driving too. Will be our best away support of the season for sure.

Rumours coming that Bray players are planning a strike on Friday. So even if they dont its hard to see anything but an Athlone win.

GUFC V Athlone playoff (if it happens) should be a cracking tie

Charlie Darwin

After all the celebrations when they got the point they needed on Friday, it would be a bit insane for the players to boycott the game and get themselves relegated. Besides, Bray can't get relegated.

Mr A
22/10/2014, 1:34 PM
True. Even if Bray did end up in the relegation spot we all know that Bray would then implode meaning yet another reprieve for Bray.

Was reading the Indo article on Bray, bad situation alright but hopefully a deal with St Joseph's can be reached.

Are we still barred from talking about Bray on foot.ie btw?

This news is about 5/6 weeks old lads... Rumours were they were going to go on strike before the Pat's match, never happened. Can't see them going on strike this week after doing the hard work over the past month.

I'd guess it might be to do with having the season finished by Oct 31st so that clubs could run players' contracts til then?! Not really sure though cos the FAI cup final is next week so any club might have to extend contracts slightly . It possibly just helps the majority budget.

The season as a whole is too cramped but that debate is for a different thread.

that was the exact thing that happened for us in the playoffs v Bray last yr. I know in Bray they couldnt even get the time to get a program produced.. its shockin from FAI shockin but it doenst surprise me to say the least..

Feels a bit weird to be heading to a playoff game as a neutral. The masochist in me might even be feeling a bit jealous. Suppose it's good for the blood pressure levels to spread the joy every so often. If nothing else its sure to be more enjoyable than sitting through the soaps with the missus

Worth noting we've an awful record at home against Galway, but do quite well out there. Even this season, we've lost in the Bowl and won in Galway. In 2008, all three league games ended in away wins.

Galway had a great away record in the regular season too if I remember rightly. Not sure they actually lost a league game away from home.
