Is it just me or has Pat never been talked about in the same breath as the Towells and Finns of this league? I only realised he's just 21 the other day too. He's surely got to be on for a move to England if he keeps this form up.

Good win for us today. Rovers were poor,didn't really create much and only for our own lack of a killer instinct it would have been a much easier win. Still the win was the most important thing.
Poor enough crowd from Rovers aswell but we had a good crowd up.

Big big win for us. But I think it has to be said that Sligo more lost that game than we won it. Shocking composure in front of goal. But we were due some luck. A debutante up from the inters got an assist within ninety seconds too. And Ayman back on the bench after injury. Things maybe finally looking up for us.

That's the composure we've shown all season in front of goal. The highlight being Maguire blocking Conneelys goalbound header in injury time. Thought UCD played some nice stuff whenever they did get the ball but we had it for most of the game.

Really looking forward to seeing Bensons miss again!

Dundalks title now, they'll have it wrapped up by early September. By far the best team in the league this season.

Awful game in Tallaght only lit up by a couple of moments of magic from Dundalk. It was never going to be a good game with two defensive teams playing on the counter-attack, but it was truly poor. Dundalk were cruising with an eye on the European tie, and once they went 1-0 up Rovers were barely bothered trying to get back into it. Sickening. A few of those players can't leave the club soon enough because they won't be missed. Best of luck to Dundalk for Split.

That's the composure we've shown all season in front of goal. The highlight being Maguire blocking Conneelys goalbound header in injury time. Thought UCD played some nice stuff whenever they did get the ball but we had it for most of the game.
Funny, I and those around me were full sure that our keeper touched that wide. Was amazed when we were given a goal kick.

Benson's miss was a shocker alright. Did the hard work and fluffed the tap in. Fortunately it didn't matter in the end (unless we go down by one goal of course)

New signing Donal McDermott contributed most of the moments of magic in his 30 minute debut.

If he can consistently deliver the class he exuded today over the rest of the season then he can add serious further impetus to the Dundalk title challenge.


Overall, Dundalk were no great shakes today, but then that was not required against a very lacklustre Rovers side. Long live King Croly!

Rovers were the only side to cause us problems at home all year so this was a very important win. By all accounts that was an excellent contribution by McDermot who came on for 30 mins or so making his debut. His arrival might see some of the other first team squad slip down the pecking order, but you always need quality options if you are going for a league title.

It was also very well managed by the club with the timing made for Hoban's minor surgery, he missed a key game v Pats but with the break coming up shortly after it was perfect timing. We then had the luxury of taking him on as a sub away in Lux, then scoring the winner yesterday proves what a top player he is.

This is the third successive season where that view has been popularly expressed by Rovers supporters - even though it is largely a different cadre of players. Apart from Croly is there any obvious reason for this in your opinion?

Good wishes are appreciated - the team has not found it's form yet since the mid-season break. While it is a big ask to overcome Hajduk Split, these players will not be found wanting for effort and commitment. I am really looking forward to Thursday night now.

Dundalk planned that one goal would guarantee a win at Tallaght. Rovers were very defensive in Oriel Park and the same yesterday.

It was clear to coaches in the LOI that Dundalk's Achilles heel was the unease on the ball of their defenders when under pressure. However, much of that was just initial rustiness. Dundalk have comfortable on the ball all over the pitch for some time now, a fact apparently not appreciated by Croly.

Once Rovers high pressing yielded nothing, they had nothing else to offer.

In my experience, the right manager has a huge impact on the performance of players. Just compare Chris Shield under Sean McCaffrey two seasons ago with the player he is today.

Under Croly, Rovers deliver well below their potential. Yesterday was a reality check for those Rovers fans who are still clinging to the belief that he will finally deliver.

The Current Derry team Performances really show how much of a clown Roddy Collins was, the last 4 or 5 games the performances have been excellent free flowing attacking football. At the start of the season all the football was so negative it was unreal, but now the players confidence has grown and players are beginning to express themselves. The Future looks bright too, with so many Young Players, Paddy McEleney, Mark Timlin, Barry McNamee, Josh Tracy, Michael Duffy, Aaron Barry, Philip Lowry,Nathan Boyle and new signing Stephen Dooley all performing brillantly over the last few games. In the last 5 competitive games we have scored more goals than with Roddy Collins at the Helm and most fans are looking forward to the rest of the season, just wish more of the fans who attend European Games would go to League Games and watch some of the talent on view.

If I knew the answer I'd be leading a revolution in there. To be honest, I think they players just aren't good enough and the coach obviously isn't either, but that doesn't explain the lack of effort. Over the decades, Rovers as a club have tended to go one of two ways: we use our greater financial resources to buy the "top" players who have won titles - which invariably results in mediocrity - or we bring in young players who haven't won anything, which have generally led to our most successful periods as a club. You can guess which strategy we've been pursuing since MON left. Compare the hunger the Dundalk players are showing to win the league, compared to the Rovers squad who played under the same manager two years ago.

Yeah, it was obvious was Dundalk's plan was and it was the right tactic. It'll be a useful dress rehearsal for the European games too, as you'd imagine for Dundalk to have any chance they'll need to be cautious and wait for the other team to lose their shape and punish them.
