Sounds like the women's team was very unlucky to lose 3-2 to Germany in Tallaght today, only losing to an injury time winner. Extratime.ie says Emma Byrne was clearly fouled for Germany's second on 84 mins. We equalised on 89 bit conceded again soon after.

Anyone any idea whether there was a good crowd. Several of the men's team were promoting the game via Twitter yesterday.

The U19s beat Austria 1-0 in an elite round qualifier.

Actually was flicking through on the box here and stumbled on it. Wasnt a foul, just unlucky, she stretched for the ball and caught it and the striker kind of stood up and knocked it out of her hands with her head. The winner was meant to be a cross as well, Byrne off her line. Was a pish poor game, but then i dont know if thats standard for womens football, but ireland played like kids in the school yard, all running after and with the ball. But they were unlucky.
Crowd, not good at counting but a few hundred?

Watching it now.

The left back, Megan Campbell has a phenomenal throw-in on her, even into the wind. With the wind it was like a Delap throw.

Germany beat someone in the group 9-0 so to nearly get a draw is a great performance.

Finally, I'm kinda in love with Julie-Ann Russell on the left wing. :love_heart:

Im bored having to stay at work another hour but that old thread link below "Green Island Girls".....if you have an extra 10 minutes and want a laugh i thoroughly recommend it. POSH I never knew you were such a swinger in your younger years.

Feck's sake. German's 2nd was a free out and the 3rd was a fluke, a cross that the wind took and looped over Byrne.:(

The girls were unlucky. It would have been fantastic to get a draw against one of the best sides in the World.
Women's football seems to be on the up in Ireland...
Also good to see the game being shown on Setanta

U19s drew with Netherlands today. Austria and Turkey drew in the other match. So they are one good result away from winning the group it'd seem.

Hope some of you lads will get out to see the Girls in Green in their vital qualifier against Russia on Wednesday - a win will put them back in second place and, although they still need a good run to make the playoffs, they're still in with a shout of reaching next year's finals here in Canada. I'm sure there's a lot of young immigrants here who would love the opportunity to cheer them on. So tell your friends to pack Tallaght and give them full support.

I suppose the physiology of being female give you a certain advantage on throw ins.

I bet this one could throw it the length of the pitch

maybe we can be a superpower in the women's.

Actually not technically in semi final yet. Sweden, ourselves and Spain could all end up on 6 points and it'd go to goal difference. Spain beat Sweden 2-0 so I think a single goal defeat to Sweden will still be good enough.

UEFA's live match tracker is gas. It was showing 1-1 after 86 minutes, and announcing action such as a Swedish corner on 85 minutes. Then it retrospectively added Ireland's second goal on 80 minutes!

Anyway, looks like job done.

Are you watching on a stream joe?

Is it just me, or do lots of goals in women's football go in just under the crossbar? The insinuation being that girls aren't as tall as men and that keepers are more vulnerable to that kind of shot.
