Didn't realise there were so many players that had grown ineligible: Ronan, Masterson, Scully. I think I've confirmed this because neither Scully nor Ronan are in the England under 17 squad!

Browning's twitter states he's an Ireland under 15 so he must have switched back to us.

Am I right in saying that Ronan is now tied to us having played for both Ireland and England in official qualifiers? Looks to be an excellent prospect to have tied down.

a new face in there from sweden I think. Great to see liverpools mccauley in

The mallon lad is a new face seems he is a northern boy welcome aboard

The lad with the swedish club was in swedish under 17 squad this summer
LUKAS is from Stockholm and has a Swedish mother and Irish father. He played with a club called IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden. He moved to Dublin last year and established himself with St Kevin's Boys. He was named in the squad for the friendlies against Turkey and Holland in February 2014.

Two members of the current squad named as the top players for the next generation at their current clubs. Worryingly, there's an inference that Kian Flanagan could be subjected to interest from the English.

EDIT: Missed Marcus Agyei-Tabi, another cap of our's.

Finnerty is from Skryne in Meath. Agyei-Tabi and Flanagan are both England-born, as far as I can make out. No doubt, England will be keen on them if they continue to develop as hoped, but it's something we should get used to, so long as we're heavily reliant on players born outside of Ireland.

Personally think we should do what Wales did with young Harry Wilson of Liverpool. We should integrate those of promise into the senior setup when they are 18/19 & make sure we have them for the future to avoid future Jack Grealish situations. If we brought the likes of Grealish on the U.S. Tour that time he'd probably be playing for us now. England are even capping lads earlier so they don't play for anyone else eg. Alli (Nigeria), Sterling (Jamaica), Welbeck (Ghana), Jenkinson (Finland) etc. Time to get cynical IMO or else we start losing more & more. That or else start producing more Irish born youngsters up to the required standard.

DeLorean
25/10/2015, 10:48 AM
Is that really why England capped all those players though? Cynicism? Or was it because they were showing a lot of promise at Premier League level for Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal? Alli looks a bit suss alright I admit!

There's no reason to think Grealish would have accepted a call up to the Irish senior squad though, it would have probably just forced him into international exile a bit earlier.

Positive to see Tony Scully in there. I'm wondering is Kian Flanagan underage though?

Interesting to note there are 3 lads with Brighton. They seem to be making a strong effort with young Irish players. They have representation in most underage sides now.

Odd to see Mark Travers down as unattached. Has he left Shamrock Rovers?

Molumby has played U21s for Brighton, just saw a photo of him playing against Danny Wellbeck. Not bad for a 16/17 year old to be playing at this level.

I think if you're underage before the first round of qualifiers begins, then you're qualified to play all the way to the finals. He played for Palace only a few days ago - http://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/article/crystal-palace-chalked-up-their-third-straight-win-to-beat-birmingham-city-1-0-in-the-u18-professional-development-league-2.-3019002.aspx - so I'm not sure why he's not in the squad

In the second half Phillips saw a shot cleared off the line following a corner from the excellent Kian Flanagan, and then the Irish youth international provided a perfect cross for Andrews to latch onto but the striker trod on the ball when well-placed to double the lead.

finished 3-0 to Ireland, Mallon and Byrne with two goals in the last ten minutes. Ireland top of the table for now on goal difference. A draw in this evening's game between Poland and Serbia would be great for us, or a Poland win.

Serbia beat Poland 2-1 - http://www.uefa.com/under17/season=2016/matches/round=2000597/match=2018998/index.html - but all is not lost
According to uefa.com, the criteria for qualifying for the finals in Azerbaijan in May are as follows

Elite round
In the elite round, held in early spring, those 31 qualifiers plus the top seed – given a bye this far – compete in eight mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners and seven runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their section advance to the finals to join the hosts.
There are eight groups, so the u17s need to do better than the worst second place team, which at the moment is Spain who drew with Belgium (1st) and Slovenia (3rd) in Group 8: http://www.uefa.com/under17/season=2016/standings/round=2000597/group=2003567/index.html
So, assuming Serbia (four goals, one conceded) beat Montenegro (zero goals scored, five conceded) to top the group, and the U17s beat Poland on Saturday, they will have three points from the games against Poland and Serbia and qualify.

A draw is no good for either team, since they will have zero points against Serbia, and only one against the third placed side, making them the worst second placed side in the qualifiers (at the moment) on one point

tetsujin1979
04/04/2016, 12:47 AM
The under 17's missed out on qualifying on penalties. Game finished 0-0 against Poland, which meant both teams had identical records after three games (P3 W1 D1 L1 F3 A2)
Tyreke Wilson and Glen McAuley failed to convert in a 4-3 win for the Poles

Highlights, and a report, on the FAI's website here: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/23/2016/2019011?tab=report

<EDIT>

turns out the penalty shoot out was not enough for Poland to go through, from http://www.uefa.com/under17/news/newsid=2343714.html#holders+france+lead+u17+finals +lineup

Poland and Ireland were dead level going into a last game where both knew a win over 80 minutes would mean qualification. However they drew 0-0 and as a tie-break went to penalties, Poland winning 4-3. That, though, was not enough for Poland, though the following day they seemed set to be the seventh best runner-up when Iceland were heading for second place in Group 6, only for Austria to snatch that position and the last qualifying berth.

17s had 2 God wins against turkey this week. The Turks gave this group a good beating last year at 16s so nice to see progress. Group seems to have some exciting front players which is a bit unusual for us. Lee o Conor scored a nice goal. He seems to have slotted right in at Utd where he seems to alternate between centre half and right full despite his size looks a footballer http://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/55506/2017/999943007?tab=report

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought I'd give a quick update on our underage strikers - and it was a pretty positive weekend for Irish forwards playing for English U18 teams: Michael Obafemi scored twice for Southampton, Glen McAuley got one for Liverpool and young Adam Idah started for Norwich - a long way from senior football yet but good to see that all three seem to be continuing their forward progress.

Idah is still well underage at that level but seems to be on an upward curve. Hopefully all of them continue to impress and we have some great striking options at underage level the next few years.

Great to see us having goalscorers at that level. A lad from St Kevin's scored a hatrick for watford under 18s the week before but watford don't seem to be a tier one academy which seems strange.we have a Dunne lad a striker with sunderland 18s as well , a 16 year old winger at Swansea Walsh scored on his debut as well for their 18s. He has a fantstic scoring record at Liverpool last season and this must be his 4th of this season. Problem for him is that Brewster who is a few months younger has already moved up to the 23s and scored last night against arsenal 23s shows how tough it is at big clubs. He wasn't included in the 19s squad this week I hope him throwing the toys out of the pram and refusing to go to the euros last May doesn't hold him back with us. The last one I remember who walked out and Refused to play for the 17s was an excellent player with an extensive posse of grannies!

Your man Parrott is supposed to be brilliant. We have a serious depth of quality underage strikers between this lad, Hale, McAuley etc. And all we need is one to come good. If you look at our current striking options and recent striking options, none have gone the traditional over to a English team from Ireland at 16 route. Long from Cork a couple of years older, Walters and McGoldrick not Irish-born and Murphy came back from Luton before kicking on again. Graham Barrett and Sam Byrne (who knows what will happen with this lad though) and Christy Fagan and Mikey Drennan have all proven over the years how tough it is as a striker.
