Just been having a look at the Everton website. Their under 18 won their 5th game in row tonight and looking at the player profiles, there are 3 who say they are eligible for us, Courtney and Tyrone Duffus and Reece McNally. Considering another of the squad, Harry Charsley, is already with us, you'd hope the FAI already know about them.

..unlikely.

This could be an interesting study as it might explain how leaving home early and moving abroad has an effect on young players ability to succeed. Might even help the FAI with future initiatives regarding player welfare.

Who are the nine Donegal players mentioned by Curran to have played professional football in England since the Second World War? Shay Given, Séamus Coleman, Carl McHugh, Gary Doherty, Stephen McLaughlin?... Billy Gillespie played league football in England but that was between 1910 and 1933. I'm assuming the likes of Shane Duffy, Ciaran Clark, James McCarthy, Aiden McGeady, Ray Houghton and Rory Delap aren't counted.

He's been watched by a few Wigan scouts recently too. Not surprising to see Huddersfield lurking after Jake Carroll walked into their team.

so these questions remain unanswered, here's the answers

Only one player made his debut in an away game under Trapattoni. Name the player and the opposition? Again, the friendlies in London are designated as "home" games for Ireland on fifa.com
Hint: it's a recent game, and wasn't the first time Trapattoni had played them
Paddy Madden VS Wales, August 2013

Two debutants scored in the same game twice in Trapattoni's reign. When was the last time two debutants scored in the same game before Trapattoni's reign?
Hint: the game was played in the 70's, one of the players involved would be really well known, I'd genuinely never heard of the other player
Turkey 3-3 Ireland, October 1976. Joe Waters and Frank Stapleton

No assistance on this one http://t.co/lYdey8xmMx
Hint: the clue is in the question
It's a graph of players assists under Trapattoni, the big circle is McGeady

Robbie Keane is the top goalscorer under Trapattoni, but what players were the top scoring midfielder and defender? Note - there's two midfielders and two defenders with the same number of strikes, one of each is acceptable as an answer
Andrews (WexCar) Dunne (Charlie Darwin)
Two more to get here, no hints.
Keith Fahey (3) and St Ledger(3)

So all this came from research I've been doing for an infographic on Trapattoni's reign. The final graph is here: http://irish-abroad.appspot.com/Blog
You can mouseover pretty much everything to kick off some animations containing more information, and the numbers in the "Overall Record" section can be clicked on. Enjoy, and share.

(it works best in Firefox and Chrome, and Internet Explorer 9 or greater, damn MS)

Nigel Clough appointed Sheffield United manager, taking over a situation very similar to the one he inherited at Derby. Clough had a lot of time for the young, hard-working Irishmen at Derby (he seems to favour attitude over outright ability, as his acquisition of Conor Sammon suggests) and was helped by a very strong youth system. There are a few Irish underage players on the books at Sheffield United, with Sean McGinty in the first team squad, Aaron Barry (not to be confused with Ann and Barry) on loan at Dumbarton, and Connor Dimaio and Joel Coustrain in the academy.

I once emailed that address in relation to Thomas Delaney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Delaney) and got a response back from reception@fai.ie to inform me they'd forwarded it on to the relevant department for their attention. I'm just noticing Delaney was capped by the Danish senior team this year - well, according to Wiki - although I don't think he was ever eligible to play for us anyway: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=show&id=9004

Delaney has roots in several countries including Ireland and the United States. His father was born in Denmark but moved to the United States. Generations before that, his great grandfather fled Ireland to the United States due to the Irish potato famine. Delaney's grandfather and father were both born American citizens despite the fact his father was born in Denmark.

Brighton and Hove Albion winger Will Buckley has revealed his intentions to play international football.

The 23-year-old winger, who has had spells at Rochdale and Watford, qualifies for the Republic of Ireland through his maternal grandparents and admitted that he would be keen to play internationally.

"Everyone wants to play international football," Buckley told the Argus. "For the last two years it has probably been a bit rare for Brighton to have as many players as we've had travelling on an international break to their respective countries.

"It's good for the club and good for the lads. It's the key part of your career, the top really."

One of their better players isn't he ?

To be honest, I've never seen him play, although he was their record signing at the time of his move to Brighton & Hove and has been an established first-team regular for the past few seasons. He's still only 23 and would be another option on the wing if he was indeed interested in declaring. His comments suggested he was keen on playing international football but they didn't specify for whom, despite his eligibility to play for us.

Only thing is Bristol Rovers are on the cusp of the relegation places down in League One.

On the other hand, Forrestor could look at the likes of Jake Carroll (his old team-mate) and Danny Morrissey (whom he is a couple of berths above in terms of Noel King's preferences for Ireland's under-21s) who are playing for/being chased by Huddersfield in the Championship.

Should be aiming higher. As Olé Olé has said, Bristol are looking hard at relegation places in League one. A player of the talent of Forrester should be looking at a mid table Championship club.

Bristol City. They're looking at reducing their Championship budget to re-adjust to life as a League One side and providing they survive this season, as they should, they'll be a lot stronger next year.

Oops. Meant City. That is true but that's a big proviso. Surely his talents warrant a Championship pursuing him.

Is anyone else slightly concerned about the lack of youth Irish players being given a run in England this season? Usually there's a few given sub appearances in early rounds of the cup, but this season there's been no new players getting their debuts, or even first appearances on the bench

sign of the times i think. alot made of all the irish youth players at villa last season but of the 7 or 8 youth players there last season grealish is only one likely to see any sub appearences later this season. tink the others will have to start in league 1 like williams and carruthers decided to do.

Baba not even in fulhams 21s, mcevoy not even getting a loan move from spurs, mcfadden nowhere near norwich side, no chance of byrne playin for utd,

maguire struggling to get in west hams 21s with sadlier, no sign of garmston getting west brom chance, the irish lads in stokes 21s r not going to be premier league players in the short term, maybe egan will get loan from sunderland when he gets fitter,

lawlor is prob third choice at city but they prob will buy in new year and byrne has had good season but no chance of game in citys midfield. no youth players at arsenal or chelsea which is sad unless crowley comes back to fold.. Its very depressing.

So many players in uk academies its tough for irish lads. At liverpool alex o hanlon who is a really technical player will more than likely only be a sub on their youth cup team even though he is one of our main players for the ireland 19s this year and supposedly was wanted by every club in england. I had hoped paul george would see some celtic action but not sure if he has recovered full fitness from his leg break. Awful season so far for irish player development

Read a conversation on twitter between Stephen Folan and Wearen, and from what I can ascertain, Wearen is going to stick it out in England until the January transfer window and will then consider trying the LOI.
