Were you not playing out in Headford during the week?

Were you not playing out in Headford during the week?

That was actually designated as a home match for Longford Town, which had to be moved to Moyne Villa FC, Headford, as Flancare was unavailable.

All our listed home matches have been played at Deacy Park.

Also RIP SD Galway

Can we not go one year without losing a club ffs?

Tough start for Town. Waterford at home in our first home match and long trips to Harps and Cobh in consecutive weeks. Wexford away in the first six weeks too.

SD Galway, another league of Ireland "club" gone. Does anyone on here have an SD jersey or scarf, could be a collectors item in years to come. Also I think they finished bottom of the table last season. Looking forward to taking in a game in Drom this year, in a way I find it a unique setting, remember seeing James McClean banging in a couple of goals there one evening.

It's mugs I'd be after. I still have my prized Kildare County one I got the night of their last league game.

You'll find plenty of mugs in LOI football. Mostly the directors.

Funny I'm looking forward to a trip to Drom too. Last time we were there Harps won 5-0 and it absolutely belted the rain right throughout the match. Best craic I've had in a long time.

Its amazing how drom and mervue s fahys field still get a licence when you consider the length of time they have had to provide seating, afaik a ground wont get a licence for the ladies section of the league of ireland unless they provide a minimum of 75 covered seats ---can anyone confirm this?

First Division teams are meant to have a minimum of 500 covered seats as far as I know. Could be wrong on that though. Someone else might be able to clarify further.

What would be the point of that many covered seats for Salthill or Mervue with attendances in some cases being about 70 people?

I know what you're saying but I've gone to Mervue a few times, I feel a little robbed paying a tenner to lean on a fence and trying to shelter under the eaves of the clubhouse if there's a shower

That's a fair point. I guess there has to be a balance between looking after the reasonable needs of supporters and the club's real needs in terms of seating and facilities.

I was in Kildare that night myself. Schumi was in Tolka. We met up for pints in town after. And how we did laugh. :)

Ah sure what's the point in licensing rules if they're only going to be broken anyway ;)

I second CrowdedHouses point too. Hateful place to watch football without a stand. It feels like watching a junior match. Mind you, I know junior teams with better grounds.

First Division odds from Boylesports:

Waterford 5/4
Longford 3/1
Harps 5/1
Athlone 5/1
Mervue 25/1
Wexford 25/1
Salthill 33/1
Cobh 33/1

Nobody else seems to have any odds yet.

Athlone a little too long I would say. Should be more or less same odds as ourselves realistically. As for Waterford, Maguire and Dempsey are huge losses, it remains to be seen how they're replaced though Vinny Sullivan should do a good job if he's interested.

Personally i dont think Waterford should be anywhere near favourites.
Would have had Longford as favourites and Athlone and Harps joint 2nd.

Favourites at 5/4 is madness, Dempsey, Maguire and our keeper all gone, Long and White not re-signed and we're favourites? Crazy. Would have Longford and Athlone a lot closer to us now.

Would think Waterford will be strong enough come the start of the season.

What's happened Packie that he isn't re-signing?

Yeah, would still expect to be strong enough, but a weird price considering the players not re-signed yet from last season.

Packie has retired, could definitely have played on imo, so we've just Robbie Hughes atm.

I'd still consider Finn Harps a much better prospect than Longford or Waterford.

The Waterford odds are ridiculous considering we only have half a squad. How can anyone judge on that?

I suspect it'll be quite tight this year. Doubt there'll be more than a fag paper between Athlone, Harps, Longford and ourselves. I don't think Youths will be that far off these four either. I'd probably have Athlone slight favourites at the moment.

That's exactly how the bookies will have calculated them.

I don't think Cobh are going to be the joint worst team in the division, I expect they'll be reasonably comfortable. Favourites for me would be Longford or Athlone. But as others have said I don't think there'll be much in it, and Waterford and Harps won't be a million miles off either.

Actually I've nearly covered the entire division there. :p

Paddypower odds for the First Division

Longford 9/4
Waterford 9/4
Athlone 11/4
Harps 5/1
Wexford 12/1
Mervue 25/1
Cobh 25/1
Salthill 66/1

I've done an e/w bet on Harps and Drogheda for their respective divisions. Accumulated odds of 126.0 ;)

Hey, in a world where Waterford United lose their best three players and have only half a squad, and are still favourites, any madness is possible.
