Read on Facebook today that the 2013 Premier Division Fixtures are to be released next week.

No doubt we'll have to wait until the last weekend in February for First Division fixtures.

Supposedly so alright. Apparently they're entering an all amateur team with most of the u-19 lads.

Friday week apparently, 21st, both sets announced together, apparently. But this is the FAI so lets wait and see what happens.

It was around the same date last year as well. But the first division ones didn't come out til the new year.

All signs are that Cobh are back in alright. So presumably 8 team first division again.

Don't know if it's standard practice at that level or what, but I heard last week that Cobh's u19 lads have to chip in for buses to away games!

The league website front page says fixtures are out this Wednesday at 12pm: http://www.airtricityleague.ie/

It specifically says Premier Division though, no mention of First!

On a somewhat related note, the official LOI website has been a model of professionalism in dealing with the exit of Monaghan from the league.

As great and all as it is to get the PD fixtures this early, not releasing the First Division fixtures is a blatently obvious and pretty embarrassing admission that the FAI have no clue what number of teams are going to be in it yet.

Press release from FAI this morning: I've deleted an email contact from within it!

Release of Airtricity League 2013 Premier Division Fixture List

The Airtricity League 2013 Premier Division Fixture List will be released at 12noon today. The Fixture List will be initially published on the Airtricity League website www.airtricityleague.ie and immediately afterwards a press release will be issued to the media with the fixtures attached in a PDF file.

If you have difficultly opening the file or do not receive the email because of filtering you can view the press release on the Airtricity League website where it will appear as a story and you can also download the fixtures from the site.

If you are unable to do this due to traffic on the site then please email me at xxxxxxxx and we will try to send you the press release and fixtures as an individual email rather than as part of a group email.

Thats a bit harsh. There's very few jounalists who won't be able to open a pdf file

I know more journalists than you!

Seriously though, PR people sending out PDFs is amateur hour. So I really don't know why I'm surprised the FAI are doing it.

Charlie Darwin

It should be included on a link, pasted in the email or attached as a word document. You can't copy and paste easily from PDF, which is why they're useless for large pieces of information that need to be transferred across formats.

Dodge

You can easily paste from pdf docs created in word. Seriously, this is a nothing issue. its been the standard practice for years, and its never been an issue

Charlie Darwin

It's very irritating to paste from PDF. I'm sure it won't affect the volume of coverage but this stuff annoys people who have to deal with it.

Oh God, it really is just a word file converted to PDF. Apologies Dodge. The clip art is hilarious.

edit: Derry v Sligo should be a good opening night. Wonder why the league seem to always put the champions away on the first night. Limerick and Cork will be tasty too, pity it's not on TV.

We actually end a season with a home game! First time since 2007, and before that 2005! We played in the cup final both of those years as it happens.

its the reverse of last year's with series 1 and 7 swapped.

Nice opening night though;
Cup winners v Champions
3rd v 2nd
Big Munster derby in new stadium (for the league)
Stephen Kenny hosting Rovers

oriel
19/12/2012, 12:58 PM
Kenny starts with a tasty one. I wonder which opening game will be live on TV. Possibly DLK v Rovers, or maybe Derry/Sligo.

I'd rank Dundalk v Rovers 4th in any likely TV game

Derry Sligo
Limerick Cork
Pats Drogheda

It will be Derry/Sligo. The current champions are always first on tv.

Happy enough with our list in general. There's a potential title decider in Tallaght on the last night, first time we've played the same opposition last in successive seasons since 1999.

Possible six-pointer in Tolka on the same night.

Whats that got to do with it? Richmond with 1,500 looks way better on TV than Oriel.

We should see some bumper crowds on the opening night with Derry V Sligo, Limerick V Cork and Dundalk V Rovers, good draw for the league.

in theory ( I stress in theory) you could argue that all the fixtures on the final night could be between pairs of teams who could be expected to be roughly similar in final position.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that the league could finish
1 and 2 Shamrock and Sligo Rovers
3 and 4 Cork City and St. Pats Athletic
5 and 6 Derry City and Limerick
7 and 8 Drogs and Bohs
9 and 10 Bray and Dundalk
11 and 12 Shels and UCD

Of course, you could swap Bray v Dundalk and Shels v UCD or any of the middle three fixtures. This of course could be complete ****** and well off, with everything decided well before the last day.
