Delighted Kelly re-signed.

I remember O'Leary signing an extension about mid way through last season around the time we signed Behan and Gamble. Not sure how long that was for though.

It's going to be interesting to see who from last seasons squad the new manager will not want to hold onto. Hopefully he decides to keep a large amount for continuity.

Will we have to wait for a new manager though?

Possibly, but these are key players in my opinion and a few others have already been signed up so don't see why they couldn't be tied down now if the deal can be done. Should still be plenty of scope for the new manager even if they sign. I would hate to see us lose the likes of O'Leary cause we were waiting for a new manager.

But maybe those players don't want to sign on without knowing whose going to be in charge?

O'Leary is apparently waiting to see who manager will be, wants to stay though he says.

Out of last years squad still not signed up, my opinion is to keep.
B.Ryan
S.Cusack
P.Purcell
C.Treacy
Guthrie (maybe)
S.Tracy
D.O'Leary
R.Gaffney
1 of Behan/ Foley
C.Collins
S.Brosnan

Release/ replace...
O'Callaghan, O'Brien, Sheehan, Kluciar, D.Ryan,

...With 5 quality prem players and you have a relatively decent squad.

Younger players like C.Daly, Cowpar and Sheedy should maybe get another year to prove themselves.

I'd sooner keep Kluciar than Guthrie and wouldn't be sure which of the three keepers I'd release (I would like to see us get a new keeper) but that aside I'd be in agreement with most of that.

Don't see judgies name anywhere???

I'm the exact same as sadloserkid really.

I would definitely keep Judgie even just as a squad player depending what the new manger was like.

That amount of difference that leaving out one letter of your sentence can make is massive.

Any thoughts on how long the new manager will need to take a look at the current/resigned players and how long it will take him to recruit the new players he feels he will need ? i'm not sure but are other premier clubs recruiting already for the new season ?

Most the premier teams have been signing up the players they want to keep onto. Derry and St.Pats have tied down the bulk of their last seasons squad while Shamrock Rovers seem to be buying anyone that had a good season last year. Drogheda have made a few new signings as have Cork but Cork still have some key players yet to be re-signed.

One of mates said to me a few weeks ago he saw him down training with the under 19's and that he is savage. Said that Feeney wants to play for the first team.

David Ryan has gone to Pats. Thoughts?

Missed pretty much the last two seasons with injury so not a huge loss. Would have liked him to stay all the same, a good keeper.

Ger Barron maybe?

Very solid keeper. Would have preferred him staying then Barry if im honest.

I would love to sign Ger Barron or Richard Brush now.

I would have kept Dave Ryan but like Jofspring wouldn't view it as a major loss. He's handy for sure but prone to the odd clanger, would be surprised to see him starting for Pats.

the odd clanger is putting it mildly. His kicking is second only to Jimmy Fyffe's as the worst I've ever seen in the league and I've seen some right bad ones down through the years. to be honest we've had a few alright keepers but we haven't had a really good one since Brian McKenna.

Don't forget Noel Mooney kicking nearly every kick out on the main road up in Hogan Park.

Looks like David o Leary is sick of waiting for a decent contract and will be signing for cork, massive loss

Jofspring
18/12/2012, 8:22 PM
If he does sign for them he will find it tough. He will be up against Colin Healy, Shane Duggan, Gearoid Morrissey and Brian Lenihan.

Hopefully he stays with us. Out of all the players to re-sign I would have had him the top of my list.

Healy will be playing right back and he can play in a 3man midfield with Dugan and morrisey quite easily.

Johnny Dunleavy will be playing right back. Healy will be in centre mid. They'd be crazy to do otherwise.

John is gonna be a utility player, Healy will be at right back, doesn't have the legs for centre mud anymore but still a great football brain.

I said similar in the manager vacancy thread... Blueandwhitearmy is adamant that's not true. My source is 100% certain that Dave wasn't offered a decent contract, but I think he's going to wait to see who comes in before he sits down with the club. I don't think he'll sign with Cork before he talks to Limerick first.

Can only go by what i'm told. And from what i'm told if he leaves it will not be because of money it will be because of getting sick of waiting for things to be sorted. There is every chance ive been told a load of bull of course.

Cork will have to pay us for Dave do they have money for that?

Your source has a mixed bag of a record s o far so we'll just have to wait and see I suppose. I'm glad he seems to have stopped drinking in that pub in Cork.

There's nothing much the club can do about O'Leary at the moment so pointless worrying.

thats a load of rubbish. Healy is well able to play in midfield, Dunleavy is looking to secure a move back to England, he refused to sign more than a one year deal. so theres no chance he would hav agreed a deal as a utility player.

with the under 19 team losing by 6 to carew park yesterday, it highlights that there not up to the standard of league of ireland yet. I know that some individuals are good players as i saw a few games out in annocotty this year but it proves that the standard of the league [u 19] isnt great. It will be a year or two before one if any are ready for the premier league.

We can't sign either. Very few clubs can. As they are both U23 and have been offered contracts equal to or better than their previous deals any club signing them would have to pay compensation, in the region of €20/25k for a LOI club, probably more if they went to England.

Cork City are in no position to pay that sort of money, though I will tell you this, if it wasn't for that, O'Leary would be a Cork City player by now, hes not happy at all.

Understandably so.

Some bit of contact from the club needs to happen asap. I know it was the christmas holidays but i'm sure players would still like to have been kept updated on whats going on.

I'm not too sure on contract law, but lets just say O'Leary refuses to sign for whatever reasons. Is he left in limbo if no one pays his transfer?
And is Gaffney not 23?

Derry want O'Leary too. If they sell one of the 3 that were close to moves to England they could pay compo for him if they wanted.

he can play junior football (or none) for 12 months, then he can sign for anyone he wants. It used be 6 months/half a season but they changed that. Thought we might try that with Tierney a couple of seasons ago.

From someone who has no medical training.... I think it's usually 6 weeks for a metatarsal so, if all went well, you'd imagine he's back running by now :-)
