Scored one of four goals in second-half injury time today as Carlisle beat Portsmouth 4-2. Bizarre stuff. Madden came on as a sub for Danny Cadamarteri. Portsmouth could only name four subs.

His second since he left Dalymount Pk. Getting a fee for him was a great piece of business.

Bit harsh. I've always liked him as a player, I think he will make a decent living at the lower end of the football league over there, maybe even with a brief stint in the Championship if he's lucky.

2 goals today on his Yeovil debut in a 3-1 win against Colchester - his second was a peach of a finish. Nice shout out for de Bowez on the Football League Show too.

Really hitting his stride now in League One - four in four games since he moved to Yeovil after he put them 1-0 up at Shrewsbury.

A hat-trick of braces eh! :)
Another one for Yeovil today. That's 14 for the season. Super form.

13 in 17 league games!! That's 0.76 goals per game, pretty impressive!!
He was never prolific at Bohs really was he? Always got himself into good positions but seemed to be hit and miss in front of goal when it mattered.
Seems to have learned to be more clinical, which is something I always heard you couldn't teach.

When he was with us for that all too brief period he was always getting into positions but it was those around him that couldn't find him. He was far superior. Delighted for him.

I'm just glad he wasn't this prolific against Dundalk on the final day in 2010 :)
I don't understand why people have always been so down on Madden. I've always said he'll make it to at least Championship level, and if he makes it that far, just look at Connor Sammon... It was clear when Madden was in the league that he was a class above just about everyone. Well, as classy as a gypo can be...

Included in Sporting Life's best buys of January.
Although I get the impression some of the palyers have been included just because they scored a few goals since being transferred.

Again! Scores on the stroke of half-time away at Coventry.
Goal - Paddy Madden - Coventry 0 - 1 Yeovil
Paddy Madden finds the back of the net with a goal from inside the penalty box to the bottom left corner of the goal. Coventry 0-1 Yeovil.

You're being sarcastic but I think he'll be an option in the next couple of years. He was being written off by practically everyone as recently as July but he's always been a smashing player and he seems to be getting better and better. Like I said, just a pity he's a gypo.

It would be ace if he made the progress but its a big ask. I don't agree with this rewriting history though - he hasn't "always been a smashing player". He's always been a smashing prospect but he had one good season at Bohs and missed twice as many as he scored. He did nothing at Carlisle. Great to see he's coming good though...

Errr... I am willing to stick my neck out on this one. I have made some dubious predictions on this forum - I once said Premier League clubs would be queuing up for Paul McShane - but if you go back you will find posts from me saying Madden was a player and would make it at a far higher level than LOI. He was always a finisher, what he lacked was the composure in high-pressure situations, such as the Dundalk game when Bohs could have robbed the title. I said the same about Danny Kearns when I saw him - Madden's movement and touch was just a class above anyone else in the league. He might not make it in England long-term but if he doesn't it won't be through lack of ability.

He's scored the same amount of goals as a loanee from the Championship and he's far younger. Yeovil run a tight ship in terms of finance so they'll be keen to cash in. I expect he'll be in the Championship next season, or with Celtic, perhaps.

Scored for a club record equalling 7th league game in a row. 10 in his last 7.
Another one for Madden away to Doncaster. The opener after 6 minutes but its 1-1.
8 games in a row by the way. A new club record. Astonishing form!

Reading that article and looking at gibsons pass against oldham last night got me thinking. Assuming that Maddens form isn't a flash in the pan and he keeps scoring consistently over the next few seasons, a lot comes down to the manager really doesn't it? You would think that all managers in the Professional system in England would be able identify a players best or most natural position and play him there, but also that a player would be able perform with those around him or if not, can it be said that those around him just aren't on the same level?
It seems that the manager at Yeovil let him play the way he wanted and where he wanted, which got the best out of him, but its worrying that the manager at Carlisle never gave him that chance. How many other players haven't got this chance?
The parallel with Gibson, is that the ball he played in was good, but the defending was poor, however the defenders didn't anticipate that pass, so something tells me that the forwards at Oldham might not have anticipated that either. Gibson could hit those balls all day long in the 2nd division and those around him and his manager might think he is useless at picking out his man. I'd like to think though from even playing at u14 level you can identify when a good ball is played or not, regardless of the outcome.

Great post.
I mentioned that above. It was preceisely the problem for Paddy when he played for us. He was just far too good.
I thought you were building up to some sort of idea that we should have Paddy in the Ireland squad so that Gibbo can lob those sorts of balls into him.

Back to scoring ways after a few blank sheets, putting Yeovil 2-0 up at home to Crawley.

Just had a nosey at the latest issue of Four Four Two and he's been voted in as top League One player and 5th overall in Four Four Two's annual top 50 football league players, fair dues to him. Didn't think he had it in him when he was at Bohs, could well be Championship clubs sniffing around this summer.

Can I ask why? I always thought he was a bit wasteful at Bohs (he practically gifted Rovers the title a couple of years back when it was all but handed to Bohs in the final couple of weeks) but I always thought he was a super talent. He has a David Connolly-like ability to be in the right place and he's got a bit of pace about him too.
