I see the date of the 1st round of the Connacht Cup has been moved forward to 22nd/23rd September, could be a bit of a headache for the Mayo teams if the GAA team beat The Dubs on Sunday(All-Ireland final at 15:30 on Sunday 23rd)....also 23rd of Sept is Liverpool v Man Utd at 13:30
Is there a Shield competition this year????

Sorry for delay in getting back to you Joe, but I was away....this is a bit of an email that was sent to the Sligo/Leitrim league by Art Friel on 28/08/2012:
]The First Round of the Connacht Junior Cup will
be on the weekend of the 22/23rd September not the 29/30th of September, Referee Cards are in the post

Interesting, that means travelling to Easkey for me on the day of the All-Ireland final. Must look into a way around that.
Regards the full Connacht Cup draw, I don't have a copy but I'll look for it.

@Joe
we are due to play Ballinrobe away, I see from the draw above that there only 4 all Mayo ties.....I'd imagine there would be a lot of phonecalls made that week...
It could change, I recall the Sligo/Leitrim league getting free weekends for the last 2 FAI Cup Finals when Rovers were involved

10/09/2012, 2:21 PM
also looking at the schedule Joe has posted it looks like there will be a Shield competition again this year. There are 28 1st round ties, so only 28 teams in the 1st round of the Shield, how will they do the draw for the susequent rounds? also if the games are to go ahead on the 23rd a 2pm how likely is it that any Mayo teams will give a w/o and not travel?
swinfordfc
10/09/2012, 2:30 PM
It they stick to games on the 23rd at a half 2 ko - then alot of Mayo teams wont travel and will give w/o for sure

10/09/2012, 4:21 PM
looks like they are, I 'm on the Sligo/Leitrim email distribution list and we just got the fixtures for the 23rd and the 1st round Connacht Cup is defo on that day

well thats the all ireland final day ruined for the mayo teams. mayo league have confirmed the fixtures for the 22nd/23rd. the all mayo team games(only 4 games) on saturday eve and all other games on sunday at 2 O CLOCK. this is a joke i think the mayo league and connaught fa should bloody hang their heads in shame.
There is history between the Connaught Fa and Mayo League, but its the clubs that are paying the price for this. I wonder has the Mayo League asked Connaught to be given different dates for its clubs. I think that this might have to be resolved between the teams themselves.

we have travelled to I think it was Moore Utd down by Ballinalsoe on All-Ireland day and played them at 11am, and there was no connacht team involved in the final, IIRC our GAA team played a semi-final the night before.........I'd say a lot of clubs will be as accommadating as possible for the Mayo clubs. Some may agree to travel Saturday evening or even to am kick offs. There is absolutely no harm to make a phone call to the opposition and see what can be achieved by common sense
Cant see any reason why clubs in Galway etc would not be willing to accomodate Mayo clubs, But there is an issue in Galway this season with fixtures etc.. over half the teams in Galway have no fixtures this weeknd for no reason..

teams from mayo who are supposed to travel on sunday either it be morning or even 2pm kick off will struggle to get a team cos lads will either be in dublin or at home not wanting to risk missing the match (extratime and travel time). i cant see many teams willing to travel for an away match on saturday eve.
whats the solution?? no show=big fine $$$$

Was it moved by the Connaught FA and Art Friel to irk the Mayo League when the decision was made there was a great chance of Mayo playing in the All final that day,the Connaught FA should hang there head in shame,whats on on the 29-30,that it had to be changed,there was no hint ofthe hurling final been drawn,home to a galway team but it means players can't go to the All Ire. and miss the first 20 minutes.

The Galway FA are a joke - trying to get a game to be play this weekend as both teams are not playing. Both teams are happy for it to be play this weekend coming but the Galway FA cant get a referee for either day this weekend (or dont want to). Thats the reason why this country is f**ked and to be honest soccer junior leagues are getting worst and worst over the last couple of years.
@Swinford,
I just an email from Kennedy that seems to have been forwarded from Mayo secretary, it has all the 1st round fixtures involving Mayo teams and refs for Mayo home games, it has you game against Colemanstown @2pm this Sunday 16th???

We have a squad with no GAA players but still will have difficulty fulfilling our fixture at 2pm on the Sunday. Players have a interest in watching the game and that should be respected.

No matter if you play GAA or not,99% of Mayo people in the county or living outside of the county will be rooting for the team on the day,alot of soccer people in the county might not play GAA but would still go to GAA matches if there is no soccer matches clashing,in most small towns bothcodes support each other.

This info is wrong - Our match is on Saturday 22nd which is not to bad at 5pm - i would like to thank the help of Colemanstown FC for changing the game but the problem i have is with the Galway FA - you have to go through hoops to get a game moved - it has nothing to do with the Mayo FA OR Connacht FA. As the game is play in Galway, they have the power to fix it when ever so they will stick to 2pm on the Sunday - its a simple as that! As i said i got lucky just to get it moved to the Saturday!

@Swinford,
glad you got it sorted, there is probably scope for a good few games to be played on Saturday evening, the is no harm in clubs picking up the phone to see what can be done

It is an unfortunate set of circumstances. As Longshanks says pick up the phone and see what can be done. The earlier it is done the greater chance of success. I know personally my club would make its best effort to accomodate any mayo team, given the circumstances, and as a Sligo team we are also eager to watch what should be a cracking all-ireland!

I was looking at the draw, there will be 29 teams in round 2. The top divisions come in at the 3rd stage - 10 from Roscommon, 10 from Galway, 8 from Mayo and 11 from Sligo(Carbury have folded)
It looks as though the 2nd round might have a load of byes in it if there are to be 64 teams in the 3rd round. It would be something like 4 2nd round games and 21 byes = 25 + 11 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 64 teams
have I too much time on my hands???

Carbury didn't have the numbers this time around as a lot of them went to the Astro league instead. I think 3 of them went to City United afaik. Not the best start for City this year but they've got Lee Marshall and Christopher Kelly back now so should come strong in coming weeks.

We have not had the FAI 1st round and only 6 or 7 Connaught Cup 1st round matches,the league here was finished last weekend except 3 play-off matches,this weekend is the Mayo league cup and shield finals,but with our league campaign finished we should not take long catching up.

something odd happening, I was looking at the Galway FA website and they have some Connacht Cup games down for the 28th October, some of these games are outstanding 1st round games that were postponed because of the All-Ireland finals, but the Barna v Strokestown and the Galway Bohs v Tuam Celtic cant be 1st round games as Strokestown beat Real Tubber in the first round, Tuam Celtic beat Dromore Villa and Barna beat Coolaney.
The draw must've been made for the 2nd round
