Roddy must be praying McCaffrey stays on so Mons can be saved by default and he can continue with his 'never been relegated' mantra.

I'd say the guy is lovin' it ..... trust him to have a way out of it. Mons definitely the better of both of them though.

UCD were well worth the win over us - they were the better side for nearly the entire game and could have had a couple more but for two great saves by Rogers. I wasn't convinced North was offside, but we would have been flattered by a point.
Peers was badly missed. Meant Ventre played centre-half. He's simply not a good centre-half - doubt the goal would have gone in with Peers there - and was badly missed in midfield, where there was no bite (Dillon had a shocker and things improved a bit when Lynch came in).
Dykes had a fine game considering his age, but was caught out for the goal with the ball coming down his wing minutes after he replaced Davoren.
On the bright side, other results limited the damage, and I'd rather have lost that than a six-pointer against Shams or Pats. We need cover at centre-back, though.

Nah Nah Nah Nah
21/05/2012, 9:49 PM
We should have moved Keane into centre back and put Boco or Raf to right back. When McGuinness was injured earlier on we lost a lot in midfield by moving Ventre back in there and the same happened tonight. Was very surprised when I saw the way we lined out. Number 1 priority in July is to sign cover for centre back.

UCD were excellent tonight. Fully deserving their win and only for Rogers they would have been 3 or 4 up going into the last 20 minutes. I think they just ran out of steam for the last 20 or so and we could have knicked a totally undeserved point in the end.

Corry and their number 8 (not sure who he was) were outstanding.

Other results softened the blow certainly

Yeah, agree with that. I was very impressed with UCD once again.
Played us off the park.

Can't believe we won tonight. Going into half time with a man sent off for something that happened down the tunnel allied with current form, I really thought we were in for a thrashing. After all his injuries it's great to see Marc Griffin scoring again. Even tonight he wasn't started because he isn't match fit, but going by the updates he made a huge difference when he came on.

Cheers lads. Yeah, felt it was a well deserved victory, we didn't just nick the points, we dominated possession and controlled the game for long periods. Obviously Sligo weren't on top of their game and suffering from the absences but it was a very satisfying performance, we moved the ball really well and the midfield interplay was lovely to watch. If we could carry this performance into the next few matches we could move towards midtable.

Also while we're continuing the with UCD love in thought the pitch was in great knick.

Big crowd up from Sligo I thought.

Was looking forward to singing "top of the league we're having a laugh" back at ye if we had somehow made a comeback!!

It gets more sickening than that. For the first time in my UCD supporting history an opposition fan actually commented to me that we had good numbers in our support! With Pineapple Stu out of the country Sligo/UCD relations seem to be at an all time high! But yes, Sligo had a great crowd for a Monday night.

Mons defended well, if a bit desperately in the last 20 minutes, but neither side deserved even a point for the first 65 minutes where there were no saves made. How Greene hit the post I don't know and Bennion pulled off a great save from Sives.

Hancock was an embarrassment.

Mc Keown "reffed" last night in Tolka. Bizarre scene when he tried to book a Shels player only to discover that he had left his cards on the omnibus. He then led the Shels player to the far side of the pitch to book him with the cards borrowed from the third official. 15 mins later he red -carded a Shels player for a tame enough two footed tackle which Mc Evoy had skipped around anyway. As Bohs decided not to tackle opposition players on the night Mc Keown decided to even things up by awarding a penalty for the normal centre half/centre forward tussling that goes on in every match at every level.

As for the match itself, the Tolka pitch mustn`t have been watered as the players were incapable of finding a team -mate with a simple pass. Either that or the standard of player on display was crap.
I can see Shels and their ever diminishing support in a relegation dog-fight as part of the bottom 5

Funny, you could replace Shels with Bohs and that sentance would read the same.

Bohs have much more potential to improve during the season I think. The Bohs support has not been bad so far this year which can only encourage the players further. Mckeown is a terrible referee, who to make matters even worse needs to be the centre of attention during the game.

It might read the same:confused: to you but it would be inaccurate. The Bohs support has held up well this year, the Shels support is dropping like a stone. Not anything to celebrate but surprising none the less given the exciting return from the four/five year absence from the premier tier and the publicity from the cup final appearance last year. No doubt the deadening effect of Matthew`s "style" of football is partly to blame.
Anyway Poor Student, what`s the biggest crowd in Belfield this season so far?

Indeed. The best bit was pointed for a goalkick when the goalline linesman said it didn't go out over that line and his touchline linesman was flagging for a throw. So he made up a point halfway between where it was kicked and where it went out.

Stopping quick freekicks, stopping play, warning players all game about timewasting but not booking anyone. They won't listen if you don't book them. Quigley in Bray soon stopped his antics once he was booked a few weeks ago.

The comparison you were originally making was between Bohs crowds and Shels crowds, so ...did UCD get a bigger crowd playing Bohs or Shels.?

You could have just asked me that. I didn't get to either game but extratime has the Bohs game at 722 and Shels at 601. Is bringing approx 100 fans more to Belfield really that noteworthy?

My original point is that you're both clubs who have small enough fanbases relative to the enormous success you have both enjoyed in recent times and you're now both midtable mediocre at best. We'll see if your core support is much better than Shels when success continues to escape you.

We have been teetering on the brink of going out of business as a football club over the three years and have been saved time and again by our core fans stumping up hundreds of thousands of Euro to keep us going. We are under no illusion but that success on the field will be a rare enough treat in the near future, I would have no doubt that our core support will continue . Success will be survival as a top division club. And yeah, 120 extra away fans is noteworthy .

A truely awful thing to suggest about Shels fans, nobody civilised could settle in Tallaght :o. Obviously child fare on the LUAS is cheaper (hence bigger travelling support).

Two of the strangest decisions I've seen in a while.

Not as strange as Dave Barry trying to defend why he made the decisions. Sadlier and McDonnell did well to keep their calm around him. Why he's on the show I don't know. He can't string a sentance together.
