Good to hear.
Next week should be interesting, North/Rogers are going to get a lot of abuse.....please deal with it now. They tried to kill our club and rightfully are going to get a lot of abuse, please dont post on the internet "pats fans are *******s" those fcukers deserve it.

Thought City were unlucky not to take a point. Had the only two proper chances of first half, and were starting to build a very decent rhythm before disruption caused by Dunleavy's injury. Thought Ndo was the difference myself, he did most of the dirty work in the middle of the park as well as his usual playmaker role. Missed the incident where he was booked though, think he was the one who injured Dunleavy :o City look to have "gelled" now anyway, at least.

Result of the night is Mons win away to Bohs with 10 men for virtually the whole match.
Would you like to have another try there ?
A bit sickened in the end by that result considering the three points were within our grasp. Would've snapped your hand off for a point beforehand though. Shams are not all that great. Goals aside they didn't create a whole lot. The penalty incident was bizarre. Mon the Seagulls.
Penalty brought laughter amongst Rovers fans down that end. Bray exposed Rovers well in the first half down the left, but simply didn't seem interested in the second half. Shockingly negative spoiling tactics, Quigley being the leader again. Once the first goal came Rovers were all over the game, Byrne barely got a touch in the second half, neither did Jansson. Probably should've nicked it in the end.

Derry got what they deserved from that game - zero. Played nearly all the football but conceded from Dundalk's only two chances. The second is worth catching on MNS, a comedic back pass mix up between McCallion and Doherty. Grim stuff.
We dominated the game but under Devine we've been characterised by being utterly panicky when put under any real pressure. Dundalk arn't much cop but they were organised and pressed us high up the field (Rafter was particularly impressive). But we had so much of the ball we should've huffed, put the feckin thing under our arm and went home...
Cherrie made two or three exceptional saves but we're going to struggle until we get our mentality right. Depressing.
As for the non-penalty, I've yet to find a Derry fan who actually thought it was a spot kick. Still Hancock handled the whole situation like a one-handed butter churner.
Probably one of the best post match interviews I've ever seen. ;)

Well deserved win for Mons . Bohs were very complacent after their keeper was red carded. Only high point for Bohs was Mc Evoy`s 25 yard equaliser. It would be goal of the month if he wasn`t up against Forresters`goal of the season v Rovers
With regard to relative attractiveness of the football played by teams against us to date the current ranking would be-
Mons
UCD
Sligo
Shams
Pats
Derry

Definitely the result of the night.
Tonigh shows that it is a very competitive league. Crucial wins for both Dundalk and Monaghan (both away) keeping it very tight in the bottom half of the table. Drogheda the real surprise club so far but Sligo's excellent start must make their supporters wish they had let Cooke go much earlier.
Competitive alright, great to see without any club being cut adrift so far.
Fully deserved too, in my biased opinion. We were on top most of the game, even with only ten men
Hats off to ye, great result. Hope ye can kick on from here.

There's something about Sligo this season, that suggests to me they could win the league. They're playing decent football and winning tight games, without really hitting top form. I'm basing this on what I've seen on MNS and results to date, but they look the real deal this year. Early days yet I know, however, Baraclough strikes me as the type of Manager that could go on and win a league. Will be interesting to see what happens though, if they get a few injuries later on.
Not too sure.
i think both ourselves and certainly Shams have yet to click under the new management.
Our squad is too small to challenge for a title as it stands and I think Kenny will improve Shams if given the time.

Indeed. That was right in front of where I was standing too...in fairness, the board was already a bit loose but he was definitely going to smash it down regardless, he was doing his best Hulk impression for sure.
He also shouted 'Every ******* time!' which, for a manager who's got two penos in the last three games, probably isn't entirely accurate...

I'm surprised you have Pats ranked so high after our dreadful performance in Dalymount.
Relief last night when our second goal went in, I thought it was going to be one of them nights, We should have been about 5 or 6 up before we eventually got our second.
UCD and Martin Russel have again created another good young footballing side, they dominated the game at times last night. Fair play to them.

Ah I know but I can't see a squad with only 16 or so players winning the league.
Having said that we would have surely lost a couple of those tight games under Cook.

That's my point. Tight games you won this season, you would have probably lost under Cook. Always liked him, but never really believed you'd win the league under him. This year with a little luck on the injuries, I think you can. Time will tell as they say:)

Is that not a tad harsh? First game of the season, and our managers first game as a manager? I didn't think it was that bad a game, my main memory though was of a drunk Bohs fan talking(well more roaring/slurring) crap into me ear at half time while I was waiting for me chips. And your mate is correct. Limerick totally dominated and the ref Coombes of Dublin keeping Harps in the game with warm words of encouragement from Peter Hutton. Booking limerick players at will, for blatent dives by McBride and of course the ineffective Kevin McHugh. When limerick went 2 1 up harps fell to peices and McHugh more crap. McBrides foul was nothing short of a disgrace as he lunged in on fellow county man Shaun Kelly. Gaffney got a forth with a powerful header but Coombes gave a free out for Derick O'Brien making a foul of "crossing the ball" Happy with the performance more then anything. Three good performances since changes/addition was made in the coaching section.

And the award for the most biased match 'report' goes to......
You were obviously watching a different game than me son. Limerick players booked at will? You are the most cynical side I've seen at Finn Park since last time Pat Scully paid us a visit.
Inside a 10 minute spell in the first half when it was 1-1, Gamble got a yellow for flattening Clarke, Bradley got a yellow for flattening Clarke and Behan got booked for plodding over and calling the ref a useless kunt. Limerick were clearly frustrated but I admire the way you can link all those bookings to Peter Hutton as it is a testament to your own creative writing.
As for the ref, Joe Gamble should have received a second booking when he took out McHugh in the first half a few minutes after receiving his first yellow. Very lucky to be still on the pitch. The ref acknowledged the foul, gave us the advantage and Gamble was very fortunate not be called back when the ball went out of play.
Coombes also over-ruled the linesman who flagged the third goal when Guthrie's header bounced off Behan who off was standing off-side and went into the net.
I didn't see the sending-off but I was watching the match in the press box and not one journo thought it was a red card. Everyone was of the opinion that McBride was the one that was at the end of the challenge. Whether he reacted was the reason for the sending off I don't know. I'd be interested to hear what you thought you seen though.
You deservedly got the 3 points, you were the better side and have some real quality in the side.
Ever hear the saying 'win with grace lose with dignity'?
Like your manager, the lack of grace with your victory and the persecution complex is amusing.
Hope you made the journey home okay as you obviously had quite a few scoops on the journey up :)

Bradley got booked for pulling him down thats hardly "flattening" now is it.
Gamble 100% yellow i thought at the time it could have been more then yellow...Behan his own fault for not shutting his mouth.
Your red was definitely a red even Harps fans by us in front of the seats were saying it and it happened right in front of them.
Handy win for us gifted Harps a goal and then and then brushed them aside with ease in the second half.

Please you and your ilk in the press box are the ones who try to be creative. Do tell me who wrote the pieces for the programme cos it looks very very similar to stuff ive read this morning. And do tell also how you know Behan said anything to the ref from your advantagous posting in the press box?

I think its the part where Felix wrote and spoke extensivley after the first game calling us an "ordinary team" that rilled the manager. What amuses me is when we arrive in grounds and buy their pin badges, scarves and programmes to read....."Big spending limerick" or how every fan believes that JP McManus is bankrolling us is hilarious and yes i guess i have a complex about that.

Limerick most definitely deserved their win, there's no doubting that.
First half I thought was relatively even, but Limerick bossed the second half.
For the record, the linesman made a mistake for the third Limerick goal, thought the ref had blew for a free and he was signalling that the ball was over the line. Couple of folk overhead the conversation in that corner between the ref and linesman.
Fair play to Limerick, came up, bossed around and were up for the game. Obviously the ridiculously stupid 'Ordinary team' statement from Felix Healy was playing on their minds and they really showed what they can do.

Me and my ilk? I'm not a journalist. Nor write for the program. Nor work for any media outlet.
Dan O'Donnell is an Irish country singer from Donegal. I honestly didn't see him up in the press box but going by the other things you seen that I seemed to miss, maybe he was there writing for Extra Time after all so I'll have to take your word for it.
Even one of your own supporters, who was at the game admitted those booking were deserved and that Gamble was lucky to stay on the pitch.

A lot of what he's saying is correct to an extent and his match reports are always brilliant. :)
The ref, Coombes, (who I can't remember seeing before on an aside) was weak as **** and very inconsistent for long stages to boot. His pally chats with, and playful pats on the bum from, the Finn Harps manager, didn't help his cause in my eyes, and didn't stop until he was bawled at by a few people at half time.
Gambles yellow was a yellow. Poor challenge but very difficult to send someone off for a dangerous tackle on that pitch, which was absolutely disgraceful. Six stone Stephen Bradleys yellow was for flattening a Harps player by dragging him back as he was about to break away. Behans yellow was for giving out to the referee about the fact that he was being consistently fouled by the refs buddy, Hutton, and his centre half partner, whats his face. I don't have superhuman hearing so was unable to pick up on any C words tbh.
No yellow cards for any Harps players while all this was going on. Despite the persistent fouling of Behan. Despite the constant diving and whinging of Kevin McHugh (who, to be fair to the guy, could have be diving because he thought he was at the local swimming pool) and despite the fact that your number sixs soul purpose for large parts of the game was to arrive just a little bit late and kick things.
When during the second half the referee actually began to apply the rules and punish Hutton for his persistent fouling he left off a string of invective at his former best buddy the referee which caused the wall next to me to start to bleed. Was Peter booked? Maybe remembering happier times, the ref decided against it.
Anyway the point of this long Sunday evening drawl, is it is the maddening inconsistency of referees which, well, maddens, people at times. :ball:
The "big spending Limerick" label has become a bit tiresome in the sense that it's constantly aimed at Limerick, as if we stood alone astride the league like some kind of solo 20 grand a week spending colossus. Our budget is bigger than Harps you say? Yawn.
The "cynical" label is very lazy as well and is thrown around a lot. It's like people see we're an awful lot better than them and go "OMGZ they are so on top, they must be being cynical."
Apart from Bradleys yellow (which any player worth his salt would have taken) can someone explain how Limerick were cynical last night, more cynical than Harps? Take into account Kevin McHughs constant diving and cribbing and Peter Huttons constant fouling and cribbing when answering.
The red was a definite red as well. Your man went to do Shaun Kelly. He failed, thankfully.
Even the normally placid and mild mannered Barry Ryan was up in arms about the tackle.
Delighted with the game overall. We're a serious, serious, outfit now. Again Scully made a big call, dropping the captain, and again it was fully vindicated. We played as much football as the disgraceful conditions allowed, created chances, kept the ball and choked the life out of the opposition. I can't remember Harps creating a single thing all game. Gamble was superb and Bradley, to my surprise, didn't go hiding in the shocking conditions. We look good. We are clicking. We should be fine.
We are finally starting to play like the team of eccentric millionaires we've all come to expect.
Just a final note on pitches. The pitches so far this year in the First Division have all been a disgrace, either an arid desert like in Athlone or a quagmire like last night in Ballybofey. (Harps lads, instead of complaining about all the sand on Athlones pitch, it would have been more in your line to steal some!)
It baffles me after the uneventful winter we had.
This standard of pitch simply isn't good enough for Limerick and our travelling squad of artisans. I sincerely hope things will improve as the year goes on.
Thanks. :ball:

Thanks. :ball:
2nd season running a harps players nearly ended one of players season with a over the top tackle ( gary sheehan last season double leg break) thankfully shaun Kelly escaped the harps butcher men this season LOL

Away with you. He clipped him, it looked much worse than it was. Shaun got up without a problem. It was a red for the way he went in but it was not that bad.

Agree with you LTID regarding the pitch, it was in shocking condition, but thats largely due to heavy rain we've been suffering all week. The pitch has been in good condition in the previous few weeks. Some very heavy rain will naturally do that to a pitch, just unfortunate for ball playing Limerick that it had to be when they came up.

I'd have thought a boggy pitch would be ideal for Pat Scully's brand of subtotal football.

Thanks again, Big Dan! :D
And the fourth official, don't forget the fourth official.
Jeez, when it comes to hijacking a thread with reams of nonsense is Limerick-Harps the new Bohs-Rovers?
