Villa Park (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/19/villa-park-terraces?newsfeed=true) could become the first EPL stadium to re-introduce safe standing areas, in a response to rising ticket prices. The Bundesliga is the prime exponent of terraces, and their grounds have the highest average European attendances, similarly English rugby and GAA stadiums show that high-capacity grounds don't have to be all-seater. The main worries centre around alcohol, but policing, fan culture and stadium design have all improved dramatically since the '80's.

Fan culture has not improved at all. What has improved is safety. And that has to be the number 1 priority.

I can't see it getting the go-ahead. Stadium regulations are very clear on this issue, and exceptions can't be granted.

Hmm, even though rugby and GAA allow it...

They don't seem to have too many issues re. safety?

We're not on about egg-chasing or bogball here. They live in their own world and play by their own rules.

Everyone knows why football stadiums are all seater in England. They are for very good reason.

And what are those then?

You think they don't have 'security' issues in Germany??

Have went to about 7 games this season so far to see various teams, think I only was seated for about 3 games, if that. Bring in standing room for fans who want it

Which is why there's regular riots at lower league games with terracing. Even games with attendances of several thousand.
