View Full Version : first preseason friendly announced
Cheers. Yeah I work in Tallaght and know it pretty well around there, just wasn't sure how it worked - the website appears to direct you into the square by argos, but you'd be quicker over by the entrance by the petrol station I'd have thought. I'll try the ground first though.

Lost 4-0. Didn't see the first goal so I'll let Martinho comment on that.
3 mistakes for the other three. ****e passback number one for Colm James, ****e passback number two for Downling I think(?) and a mistake by Hunt makes three.
Skelly missed a sitter, but still, not a bad performance. Was happy with Gillespie. Not as happy with Skelly, his movement was poor. The gulf in class is serious.
Their first was well worked by Rovers - nothing we could really do iirc. The other 3 were very poor, but mistakes rather than being outclassed, so at pre season it's as much concentration as anything (something that can be fixed).
I'm was happy enough with the performance - Rovers I think will win the premier handy enough, and in general I thought we were did ok given our level. Looks like there's great potential with Kirby and Gillespie running things - first half you could see them talking to other players explaining what they should be doing. If Gillespie can calm his temper a bit when things go wrong (e.g their 2nd goal), they could really bring the team on, never mind their own potential skill level they bring to the team.

I support the lads comments... the first goal I dont think there was much hunty can do about it... the rest of the goals werent great from our side. kirbs was unlucky with his header in the first half and how aussie didnt score I never know.. I wouldnt be too worried about the hammering theres good potential in this squad!
any word on when the leinster senior cup game will be?

Thata great news about Shaw I was very impresses with Bermo and we all know what Aussie can do so will be great to see Shaw play. And while its only pre-season I think a good result and or performance tommorow could really boost confidence in the camp after Waterfords result tonight!

Thought the game was a superb workout.. Sligo were all over us in the first half but we came into it strongly in the second half.Thomas Crawley was superb for us in the second half when he came on.. it was easily his best performance for us since he joined...Gary Shaw came on sub for his debut and had a great chance near the end but was saved by Gary Rogers.. it was lack of match sharpness that went against him.. We couldnt cope with sligo new signing millien and conceded a peno which Craig Hyland superbly saved mark quigleys peno..
town team :
Hunt, James, dowling, Haverty, Deans, kirby,Gillespie, Salmon, bermingham,Prudy,Morley. subs: Crawley for Dowling, Hyland for Hunt, O Brien for Salmon, Gary Shaw for Bermingham and Dean Cosgrave for Gillepspie

We were absoutely dirt poor 1st half totally outclassed but we settled in the 2nd and should have scored when the impressive Gary Shaw was 1 on 1 but hit it straight at the keeper.
Keith Gillespie was out standing today our best player by far but strangely Kirbs was fairly poor but I think that had more to do with playing against his ols team mates so I wouldnt worry too much.
Our major problems this season will come in the full back areas, colly james played right full today and was absoutely mauled while Gaz cronnin and of course Mick Lee our 2 usual LB's were missing so I think we are swriously short at both RB + LB however I thought Tommo Crawley was out standing at LB and that could be the perfect position for him.
Between the posts I thought Hunt was a bit hesitant for the first while Hyland was excellent he even saved a penalty on top of two or three top class saves for me he should start the season as no.1.

I'm really liking the look of Hyland. I was at the Shamrock Rovers game and he was super. And by the sounds of it, he was great today too. Great signing!

was crawley the left back in second half last week vs drogs, wearing number 14?

Hey lads, is this the final pre-season friendly before the league kicks off?

Thought we were poor in the first half yesterday. For all the guile and technical ability of our midfield 3, we had no one to put the foot in, making tackles when need. Sligo got too much time on the ball, and our weakness of balls played in over the top, cost us again.
Second half much better. Shaw looked very impressive, did miss a sitter, but great touch in the lead up, and looked busy, and good touch on the ground and in the air. Crawley did very well although he isnt a left back. Id imagine he'll play wide left of a forward three with Shaw and Bermingham. Jacques tried hard, but i dont think he'll play too often if we've everyone fit. Hyland made some great saves, but he did make a mistake for drogs goal last week. Between him and Hunt it will be a good battle for number 1 this yr. Hopefully we'll have our back 4 sorted with injuries in time for mervue next week, and start the season with a good result.

Totally agree with Cabs88's comment that we had no one to put a foot in (although I thought gillespie did well tackling at times) I think Colly James would fit the role of sitting deep and breaking up attacks very well.
And Pauro yes that was our last test run so to speak.

It's down for March 12th provisionally according to someone on the main forum. So "all games must be played by February 29th" except if you don't want to play it until two weeks later.

Was going to go, but really not sure I can justify a baby sitter for the lsc, especially if they're charging full whack in.

Tenner in was very sore. Less than 100 there.
Hunt, Dowling, Hope, Cronin, Lee, Purdy, Skelly, James, O'Brien, Morley, Duffy. 4-5-1.
We were better again. Bray were just hoofing it about.
Longford went one up... looked like S Skelly got the goal, credited to Morley. Straight from kick-off, they went up, lovely ball in and headed in. Mistake for the winner, Cronin mis-headed over Hope and went on for the striker who put it away.
We had no real ideas going forward, which was disappointing as we had most of the possession. Duffy missed a sitter through on goal.
Morley was shocking. Decent performances all round otherwise.

Sounds like Duffy had a good game......When I saw the line up I was very impressed as it was basically our second 11 a very strong one at that, thought we'd win but no harm done in fact the good performance should only help boost confidence among the subs ahead of Friday's game....CMON DE TOWN.

I heard last night that the only reason we put on one sub last night was cos the rest of the subs bench were carryin knocks and it was a bit risky to take the rest of the subs on..
