Wasn't too sure about Keogh or Haverty. Is Hope still with us? Must say, I was impressed with James when he came on. If anyone is wondering, Jamie Duffy was with Drogheda after us, but is one quarter of small time boyband 'Boulevard'. A youtube search of 'Boulevard 100 Times' will show you. Not a very impressive video but catchy song... 100 - 100 Times...

Great finish in fairness... Marking was poor in the box though, would hope that improves this year, we gave away a lot of goals from set pieces last year.. Gaz Cronin didn't crown himself in glory in the run up either

Id say he will make a great partnership with gillespie.
That'd be my thinking if it comes off. No disrespect to the other players, but they should be able to really link up at higher standard to the rest of the team, and division. What they've conceded in pace with years, they should be able to make up with skill. Total Football.

Mick Lee hasn't been right since he got that injury last year it's a shame cause he was a brilliant player for us and hopefully still can be once he over comes this set back. That's awful news on Flood and Walsh especially Flood because the back 4 is an area we're perhaps not as strong in.

The addition of Kirbs is a master piece and himself and Gillespie should be a match made in heaven, let's hope the keepers have a good year and the strikers put the chances away.

Any idea on Kirbs wage? He must be one of the higher earners.

Heard the same whispers re some sort of a job. Heard he was still studying until June though and that he might have a part time job after that. Flancare might take him back perhaps, they were always happy with him when he worked for them before by all accounts. Might tide him over for a while whilst he's still playing LOI anyway. He has a family to be looking after so he must be happy enough with what he'll be getting out of the deal.

Seems to be some confusion over the Drogheda United friendly next Saturday some people saying it's at home others away (I thought away). It's on the town website as home @7-30pm but the club Twitter says away????? Heads in a spin what's the right answer :)

Longfordian
13/02/2012, 7:23 AM
Drogheda announced it as a home game for them initially didn't they? Haven't heard of that changing. Probably just a mistake on the Town site. Actually just checked the Drogs site and it's now down as a home game for us. Either it's been switched or Drogs had it wrong. Either way it seems to be in Flancare now anyway.

I hope so, delighted! I'l look into it further hope its at home dying to get back into the swing of things.

Shamrock Rovers' Twitter is saying as of a few minutes ago that we're still playing them in Tallaght on Tuesday 21st so 2 + 2 must equal 5 in this case.

15/02/2012, 9:12 AM
Well I never said it was official I was told they were considering a change of venue because tallaght had become quite worn and that they were talking of moving it to flancare.

1-1 good result and a decent performance, fantastic goal by Town but who was the no.19 that set up the goal with his mazy run i thought he was absoutely fantastic.

Great to see kirbs back what a player he is the ball is glued to his feet and he has great vision (couldnt understand people saying hes no where as good as he was and that hes lost it a bit hes still top class and will rip out the division)

Karl Bermingham shone in the the first half his hold up play is fantastic throw in aussies little flicks and you have a great partnership (gary shaw still has to come back so we look well set up top)

A lot of attention on Duffy not sure what to make of him tbh he looks ok on the ball but hes really lacking pace. Salmo looks even better than last year but gillespie looks even worse! I hate to be so critical after a pre-season game but he leaves awful short passes in front of the back 4 and it almost cost us a few times, for someone thats played in england his touch isnt great especially compared to kirbs.

New keeper looks steady made 1 really good save despite his error for the drogs goal.

Our passing is fantastic (especially 1st half) and since thats a decent premier side id bd very confident we can play like that against 99% of teams in the division.

So who was the no.19 for us?

Martinho II
19/02/2012, 12:41 AM
town squad tonight: hyland, o reilly, g cronin, dowling, deans, kirby, gillespie, salmon, bermingham, a skelly, duffy. subs;s skelly, purdy, o brien , haverty, crawley, radu contor( romanian trialist that was here for two weeks and headin back next week. he supld assist for aussie screamer. he plays for romanian 2nd div side.) he was the best player on the pitch when he came on

kirbs had a stormer. gillespie had a screamer.

in other town news it was confd tonight that Jamie Duffy has signed for us again ( unattached). Niall O Reilly has resigned and Dean Cosgrave whos livin in Drumlish and part of the town under 19 side has being promoted to the senior squad this season!

17 was that Romanian lad. He played in midfield and was super. Reminds me of Dembele, very hard to get the ball off. Who was 20?

It seems O'Reilly got injured in the game last night and is having an x ray on his leg today. It'd be a bit of a blow for him if it's serious given he's only just coming back from injury.

Do Romanians require work permits? I have a feeling they do even though Romania joined the EU. It's not that difficult to get one but it can take a while to come through. We'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

Battery Rover
20/02/2012, 10:30 PM
Yeah Romanians and Bulgarians have to follow different rules for obtaining work permits. From research I did when we were interested in signing players from there it really looked like it wasn't worth the hassle.

Tallanted, or anyone else really, what's the story with parking for Rovers games? Are the barriers up in the square of an evening, or is there a specific section for matchday parking?

the 12 th man
21/02/2012, 10:21 AM
Macy, there's matchday parking in The Square (according to a sign outside on the road) but because this is a friendly they might allow parking in the ground itself as the crowd wouldn't be as big as a League match and there is a good few parking spaces there.
