CAPS United to unveil Irishman as new coach

HARARE- CAPS United have settled for a European touch to try and end half-a-dozen years of waiting for league championship glory, with Northern Irishman, Sean Connor, set to be unveiled as the new head coach of the Green Machine.
Link (http://nehandaradio.com/2012/01/12/caps-united-set-to-unveil-irishman-as-new-coach/)
That was an unexpected turn of events to say the least. He'll find it difficult to organise pre-season friendlies within spitting distance of his gaff this year...

I wouldn't wish him on anyone.

REQUEST FOR URGENT BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP

Dear Mister Conners,

First, I must solicit your strictest confidence in this transaction. This is by virtue of its nature as being utterly confidential and "Top Secret". You have been recommended by an associate who assured me in confidence of your ability and reliability to prosecute a pending footaballing transaction of great magnitude, requiring maximum confidence.

We are top officials of the CAPS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB panel who are interested in the importation of footballing peoples into our country with funds which are presently confined in Zimbabwe. In order to commence this business, we solicit your assistance to enable us to transfer into your account, lots and lots of money funds.

The following represents the source of the funds. During the last regime here in CAPS UNITED, the coaching team awarded themselves contracts which were grossly over invoiced in various ministries which informed the setting up of the Contract Review Panel by the present Military Government to advice on the aforementioned. We have identified a lot of inflated contract sums which are presently floating in the Central Bank of Zimbabwe ready for payment, amongst which is the said sum of US$31,320,000 (Thirty One Million, Three-Hundred and Twenty Thousand United States Dollars) that we solicit your assistance for the transfer. As we are unable to manage the transfer all by ourselves because it it lots and lots of monies and it will be too heavy, I have therefore been delegated as a matter of trust by my colleagues on the Panel to solicit for an overseas partner into whose account we would transfer the said sum.

We have agreed to share the money thus:

1. 65% for the Account Owner (you)
2. 25% for us (The Officials)
3. 10% to be used in settling all expenses (our end and your end). Incidental to the realization of this transaction.

As a token of our appreciation to you, we shall make available to you at less than market price as much as 500,000 barrels of Automotive Gas Oil for spot lift. And 1,000 young ladies for the sexual harassments.

We are looking forward to doing this business with you and solicit your confidentiality in this transaction. Please send us the following information IMMEDIATELY, and then we can draw up your professional contract, and you will be selected as to the managing coach of CAPS UNITED of Harare, Zimbabwe, and you will immediately receive lots and lots of monies (see above) into your bank account:

1. Your Name and Address
2. Your Bank Account Details
3. Your Sort Code

Yours Faithfully,

Dr. Akeem Biobaku,
Chairman,
CAPS UNITED,

The club’s management is set to concede today that they made a monumental error of judgment to hand Connor full charge of the team given his lack of experience with football in Africa.

Bohs Boards inability to control expenditure "really cost Bohs"

Some of Connors antics at Bohs (and no doubt elsewhere) were juvenile and his football and tactical awareness was awful. Add to that the worst man management I have ever seen at a football club and you have some idea of his "reign" at Dalymount. While I would happily blame him for everything from the Kennedy assasination to foot and mouth (perhaps more foot IN mouth ?) he is not responsible for our financial shambles.
After Connor, Nutseys permanent Mr Angry was like a breath of fresh air :o but he did not set the budget at Bohs either.

Difference of coure, is that Fenlon won lots of things while Connor is a total spoofer.

SEAN CONNOR has just one game to save his job at CAPS United after a nightmarish start in the race for the league championship with former Warriors coach Norman Mapeza set to be handed the baton should the Northern Irishman fail.

The Herald can reveal that Connor pleaded with the CAPS United directors, Twine Phiri and Farai Jere, at a crisis meeting in Harare three weeks ago, to be given three games to turn around the fortunes of the misfiring Green Machine.

The CAPS United leadership had decided to hand all the club's technical responsibilities to Lloyd Chitembwe with the Northern Irishman assuming a ceremonial role in the coaching set-up.

Ceremonial role? What the hell does that entail? Dancing round the training field in the nip to ward off evil spirits? Conducting group prayer sessions or Satanic rituals? Getting nailed to a tree to purge his and the club's sins? Slaughtering goats to appease the Gods?

It's a bit nuts to have such stuff reported like he "pleaded" for 3 games. Sounds like he wasn't a choice for the job in the first place and they want one of their own to do it. His biggest failing is that he figured it would be like a normal club, that managers/coaches pick their own teams.

Just on an aside, was it Chris O'Loughlin that was mentioned earlier - who coached in Africa. Last year I'd some feedback from him and it sounded like it was a mad situation. All things considered he did well.

FORMER Bohemians, Dundalk and Galway United boss Sean Connor has appealed for time in his bid to save his job in Zimbabwe.
Connor took over as manager of club side Caps United earlier this year but his team have struggled and are third from bottom in the league table, form which led to calls for his dismissal, but the Belfast man has asked for time.
"I am from West Belfast and I am a Catholic and I am able to withstand pressure.

"I believe in fighting for what I stand for but I think the pressure that is being put on the players is too much and unfair," he said.
"I came here to develop as a coach and manager and to develop CAPS United but I have been shocked by how difficult it has been for staff and players to change and adapt to the European ideas.

Jere apologises to Connor

Henry Mhara,Sports Reporter | 2012-09-13 08:36:00

Caps United co-owner Farai Jere has apologised to Sean Connor after “realising” that the Northern Irishman had no fault in the team’s poor showing.
Jere blamed some senior players for sabotage.

The Irishman and his entire technical staff which included assistant Lloyd Chitembwe were shown the exit door in August after posting four losses in a row.

Taurai Mangwiro and Mkhuphali Masuku were appointed as coach and assistant respectively.

After watching Caps scrap past Hardbody on Tuesday Jere said: “We have realised that the problems at Caps have got nothing to do with the coaches, but the players themselves. These players are not serious at all. I want to apologise to all the coaches we have fired.”

Three players, Edmore Sibanda, Nyasha Mukumbi and Marvel Samaneka have already been sacked as part of a purge of players accused of causing dressing room disharmony.

The latest win was Caps United’s first in 10 attempts to steer the struggling team out of the relegation zone. The Green Machine are on 11th position with 23 points, the same number as Black Mambas who sit just above the relegation cut-off point.

“We will not be relegated this season,” vowed Jere.
Moses Chunga continues to sing the blues at Gunners since joining the club two weeks ago.
Following a 4-0 hiding at the hands of Dynamos on his return, Bambo’s team was humbled 1-0 at home by Buffaloes.

Basement side Quelaton’s woes continued as they were hammered 4-0 by FC Platinum, their 16th defeat of the season.

They have six points from 21 matches, and unless a miracle happens in the remaining matches, they will be playing Division One football next season.

Sean coining it in Again.

http://www.newzimbabwe.com/sports-9606-CAPS+United+to+pay+Connor+$90k/sports.asp

Link wont work so

CAPS United must pay their former coach Sean Connor US$90,000 for unlawfully terminating his contract.
The Irish coach referred his dispute with the Harare club to arbitration following his sacking in August.

Connor had a contract for $4,000 a month in basic pay and a winning bonus of $400 per game which was to be reviewed in January.
He had demanded US$122,000 from United to leave quietly, but the club had only offered just $15,000, leading the matter to arbitration.
A judgement of the Commercial Arbitration Centre released on Tuesday said: “In terms of the law, Connor was on a fixed term contract of two years with the provision that this contract would be renewed after twelve months.
“Such a contract... provides that the relevant notice period for a two-year fixed term contract shall be three months. In this regard, the 30-day notice clause in the claimant’s contract fails to meet the minimum requirements of the law.
“I find it curious that this clause could have found place in any contract of employment.
“No-one has a right under the contract of employment to terminate a contract ‘without just cause’. The point argued by CAPS United is that Connor entered into a performance-related contract and therefore agreed to be terminated in the manner he was.
“I disagree with that contention. The contract of employment is clear in that it gave the respondent the power to review the contract after 12 months. Even if such a review had been carried out, which I have already found out was never carried out, such a review would have been against the letter and spirit of the contract of employment.”
Connor’s claims for a motor vehicle allowance and signing on fees for 2013 were dismissed.
The arbitrator said: “I uphold the all the claimed items as listed except the motor vehicle allowances and the signing on fee for 2013. The claim on the motor vehicle is based on speculation while that on the signing on fees is disallowed for the simple reason that I believe one is only entitled to the payment of this allowance at the commencement of the employment relationship.
“In the result, Connor’s remaining legitimate claims against the respondent arising from breach of contract amount to UDS$99,640.

“Therefore CAPS United should pay to Sean Connor the amount of US$90,640 being compensation for breach of contract.”
