i'd imagine the excitement of fennaldo's goal got to him!!As it did to all of us!...;)
Maybe not 3 subs, but at least one.
I think we need another goal though.

Subs issue: Well, we dont have much on the bench really, aside from Woods, who would have been a good addition. A wide experienced head.

3-1. I for one am happy enough with that. The away goal WILL tell.

Fair play lads.

Well done lads. Even though it doesn't look great on paper it does at least mean that you'll get a good turn out in the Cross next week.

Hope to see all the Dublin based Cork fans in Dalymount for our Eupoean game. :)

The away goal WILL tell.

Well it will be alot tighter at the cross and a home advantage could be a vital advantage. If we have the same atmosphere as the NEC game it would be great.

Not a terrible result in fairness! On our day we can get two goals against anyone! And like anything cann happen at the cross... nantes defensive mistake, a penalty kick <btw it's uriah rennie reffing at the cross... groan> so it's not all over at all! I will be heading out there Saturday night with a lot of optimism!

I'm a bit disappointed to be honest.

Before the game I thought it'd be tight, but it does look like this crowd are a different level to us (though we'll wait for the lads' who are there report to make judgements).
Having said that 3-1 is better than 3-0 and 2-0, hopefully the cross will be full, or close to it and we can get amongst them.

2-0 isn't beyond us, it'll be very difficult, but not impossibel

The difference between 3-0 and 3-1 away is huge.

2 - 0 at the X is not beyond the realms of imagination. The French Boys will be pleased with their lot and may slip into a comfort zone for next week. Plenty of athmosphere, a full house and a drop of self belief and it could very well be 2-0 cork, hello semi final. Dont write em off. The whole of Ireland is behind ya.

it'llbe very close next week i have to say. two goals, as tiktok said, not impossible. i expect it to be one nil city for the majority of the game, resulting in chewed fingernails and lots of hair pulling and looking through fingers

It might limit the barstoolers alright but i'd say we'll get a full house again.

Chorus ... depends on when the tapes are sent again i'd say.

It'll defo be a full house. With a big athmosphere again, we can take them.

Wonder will people be on moaning about ticket prices again???

An early goal next week would really thrown the proverbial cat among the pigeons!

6 games in Europe - How feckin bad. 2 more would be great. Bertie would probably have to declare a state of emergency in cork to pay for the next charter flight...

The FAI would disband

Noel King would run naked through the streets Cork

Dolan would be crowned king of ireland

Wayne Rooney will leave Everton to be beside the Lee

the tie is definately still alive. 3-1 is a better result than 2-0. only thing i'm worried about is that it sounded like nantes were lethal on the break. we need to score 2 to go through so we'll have to attack them, and we'll be vulnerable to the counter-attack.

if we score early maybe then we can be a bit more patient... i don't know. can't see us keeping a clean sheet...

Sounded like Doyle should have had a penalty by the sound of it.

County sounds commentary was excellent. Just faded in the car after youghal when the ref blew the final whistle.

Got my tickets at half time in the horseshoe bar.

Nantes:
Their goalie sounds like he can't deal with high balls, here's hoping that corners in front of a screaming shed will unsettle him even more.
They're quick and break well which will be a concern, but the Cross is a fairly small pitch with the crowd right on top of it, they may take a while to settle, especially if we get in amongst them from the off.
They'll come to protect their lead and will probably sit deep, we have the players in Fenn and Georgie that can create an opening. If we nick a first half goal, and play into the shed second half with them sitting deep and with that keeper, there's no reason we can't score.

We have to keep them scoreless though, If they score early, it's all but over.

There French keeper Laundreau is supposed to be back for the game at the X but I hope he isn't...

apparently he's gone walkabout according to some of the Nantes fans, with a bit of luck he won't show :D

also Berson (or whatever his name is, the midfielder) wants away to Aston Villa, hopefully it'll happen by next weekend.

I used a translator on the Nantes Website:

From what I can makeout and reading between the lines, it looks like this crowd are not making the mistake of the Swedes or the Dutch in underestimating Cork City. Dolan is playing mind games with the French saying that its Mission Impossible now. Although they do draw attention to the fact that they were unfit and tired at the end of the game. Could this be vital is the return leg?

Nantes, July 18, 2004. Beaten 3-1 with the match outward journey,
Irishmen - by the voice of their trainer Stephen Neiland, do not lose
of it less the hope. "We knew that it would be difficult, he at the
end of the match explained. But this goal enables us to maintain the
hope. And it is all the difference." Nantes side, Loïc Amisse was
said reassured by this entry in competition.

Oïc Amisse, trainer of the FC Atlantic Nantes "This evening, we found
the competition and the feelings. It was important to be made safe by
the play. One knew how to control the opposition collectively and to be how to be effective against them. We knew that was not going to be easy vis-a-vis to a well against a well organized team. The first goal relieved us so that we can register the two following goals. Only distorts note comes from this boxed goal.
Undoubtedly a bad management of tiredness... But I withdraw much
satisfaction of this match. For the return match, it will be necessary
to be wary of this team. It will be necessary vigilant and to be
concentrated, as we were for this match. It was making safe for the
trainer but also for the players who could take pleasure on the
ground. Because the foot, it is also and especially to take pleasure
on the ground."

Dolan, trainer of the FC Cork City said "It is with much pleasure
that we came here, in Nantes. It is for that that we are proud to
have reached this level of the competition: to play in a stage like
this one, to have facilities for the drive as we had them here...
To play a team like Nantes, it was very difficult. You know,
before this match, many thought that Cork was favorite before this
match. Whereas we were carried out 3-0, much had to say "it is
necessary to change so-and-so, such other, to place that one here..."
But we registered a goal which enables us to maintain the hope. And
that changes all! The team deserved that goal this evening. If we had lost 3-0,I would have been very disappointed. The hope remains. The
return match concerns the Impossible Mission. This week, we will make
the agent Tom Cruise to Cork City. Nantes is favorite for the
return match. They played exactly as they were expected to, the danger
came from the players whom one knew dangerous. We are magic to
accomodate Nantes but nothing is over."

Lads the away goal does give us a fighting chance next weekend but it only means that we have to win 2-0 and to be honest I`ll be very surprised if Nantes don` score next week.

Their 2 wingers today were very quick and really gave Lordan a roasting on that side. They played some super football today and at times had City chasing shadows. They looked threataning every time they went forward and Murray struggled with pace each time.

It`s gonna be a tall order next weekend.

On the positive side I think the heat today really took a lot out of the City players, it took a lot out of me and I was just standing in the crowd!!!!!

All is not lost but it`ll be a bit task next week

It sounds like City gave a good account of themselves lads. Here's hoping that you can pull the two goals back.
