Trap out!

Yep, Andrews very good. Right up for it. Feel a bit for Estonia but, hey...

I think there's justifiable cause to nit pick despite the outcome but I still have this recurring thought: we are very adept at taking the lead in these kind of games. From then on Trap says "we're ahead, it's up to you now". Others might say it's time to press on, but I think there's just cause for saying "Trap knows". He just ****ing does.

Q: Is this our biggest ever away competitive win?
Biggest since Cyprus in 2001.

It was a Walters moment.
Trap was going through the team members one by one, "Given, Dunne, Doc, Whelan, Andrews, Duff, McGeady, Keane and Walters ah Waalterrrs , Walters …. as his voice trailed off to unspoken proud emotions.

Biggest since Cyprus in 2001.

24/3/01 I think. My stag day! Met a very nice girl from Finland in a night club called Angels I think. Very friendly, showed me lots of things and I didn't even ask.

I thought we actually conceded in that game. My wrong.

Out of interest if the players on yellow cards tonight get booked on Tuesday, are they out of the first group game?
I'm guessing the answer is yes!

I hear the whole team are gonna be down the pub getting ****ed!!

Dare I say it but just delighted fr us lot who have defended trap on here over the last few yrs. Yes its not pretty or even entertaining but you know what its not just luck that we are so organised and concede so little. His motto I'd first don't lose and I am delighted for this team, particularly the likes of Shay, Dunne, Keane and duffer, so much pain but at last so much joy.

Now please finish the job n Tues, lets party and then so much to look forward to.......the draw, the build up, the friendlies, the injuries scares etc hell even the DVD that will be out at Xmas. The happy days are, almost, back.

Thank you trap

Does anyone else thing Hunt learned a lesson from the weekend? He was clipped by the Wigan keeper when clean through, and elected to stay on his feet, so no penalty. Wigan went straight down the other end and scored, tonight he again was clipped and made sure to hit the deck!

I think he was 'saving it for the big one'. ;)
I think as it happened none of them was a game changer? Although the extra goal does put things beyond doubt in this play-off.
Actually I think the score was 0-0 for wolves at the time of the incident so it would have been a game changer, however there is also the
chance he got booked for diving perhaps. I was quite surprise he did not try and get a penalty thought I think 90% of players would have.

There was someone here who backed Sledge to score anytime (at 15/1?), must have been cursing Robbie for just getting there ahead of him, to slot home that rebound.

That was ****ing awesome. We were all coming out of the bars celebrating here. Cabbies were beeping, its veterans day, a group of Marines were like what the **** are you guys so happy about? It was terrific. Cant ****ing wait for this summer. The Irish bartenders were in rare form.
Im going to bed and its not even 7 pm.
Hope we have a healthy team at the end of the season and we can play with house money, get over looked, sneak up on teams and do some damage. Why not?
4 nil!!! I felt like I was going to go blind or something.

Trap out!

Biggest since Cyprus in 2001.

You could argue that that was not a 'completive' match Cyprus were a minnow in the group (as were Estonia at the time) they both only got 8 points and were regularly thrashed. Cyprus were ranked about 82 at the time, mind you Estonia are only ranked 59th so they did extremely well to get to the play-offs and we did even better in drawing them.

I am not sure, is it possible that the slate could be wiped clean for the finals? I vaguely recall talk about that sometime but I am surely wrong.
Anyhow, given we were 4-0 up would it not have been sensible for players on yellows to have got themselves booked deliberately so they
missed the second leg, rather than carry a yellow card through to the finals?

Buzzing! Too wired to sleep but I'll give counting chickens a go. Thank feck it's saturday (now). 1 goal conceded in 10 games and probable qualification for a major finals on the back of a big playoff aggregate margin. Happy days.

Yep, Andrews very good. Right up for it.

I think he had a bit o' the 'spirit of Paris' about him tonight. Won't ever be accused of being a playmaker but some savage determination.

Was anybody else shouting at Whelan to stop …stop… STOP, oh no $%&&%

Shocking dive from Duffer. Barely touched him. :D

Just a word of warning, one thing I have noticed quite often in the Premier League is that a team has a big win, ie 4-0 or 5-0 and
then goes and loses the next match by a similar score line!!!
I can't provide any example of this right now but I am pretty sure it has happened a few times!
I will see if I can find some. Might just be my imagination though or just that you notice on the very rare occasions it does happen.

Found one already!
http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/bolton-wanderers/2010/3/

21. Round 09/03/2010 19:45 A Sunderland AFC Sunderland AFC 0:4
30. Round 13/03/2010 15:00 H Wigan Athletic Wigan Athletic 4:0

So there you have Bolton (ie Estonia ;) ) losing 4-0 then winning 4-0 against fairly similar opposition!!

I mean you can just see it, Estonia have nothing to lose and go flat out on the attack whilst we are resting on our
laurels, 0-1, well they deserve a consolation goal, 0-2, time we tightened it up a bit at the back, don't want to let them get back in, 0-3, bloody hell!!! 0-4 oh ****!!!

A not unexpected response!! ;)

Just out of interest, when was the last time we lost 4-0 at home?
I can't remember anything worse than a 2 goal defeat at home although I do recall a 3 goal defeat in Cyprus.
Actually there was Republic of Ireland 0-4 Holland in 2006 but that was a friendly

Noely, I completely agree, but this is the last of the great Euros. Euro2016 with 24 is gonna suck.

I can't wait until it's 24 teams, surely even we can't fail to qualify for that. It should have been 24 this time.

No sympathy for the opposition. They insulted us after the draw, indicating we were a pub team like the Nordies and tonight, with their Union Jacks in abundance.

Great night for everyone connected with Irish football. Wonderful lift for the nation. Football will be all over the back pages (and front) next June showing who is boss, while the rugger buggers kick air on a tour of some kip called Fiji or something.

For everyone who put up with San Marino, Switzerland, Moscow, and Montenegro amongst others, for those who put up with local FA's wrecking their travel plans in the past 10 years, this night is for you. Safe journey home, and enjoy the party on Tuesday.

There is not a hope of us losing this tie. Estonia were limited. They showed that. They ended up with 9 men as a result of their inexperience and indiscipline.

That's their fault. Not ours.

On Tuesday we will deal with them in a professional way and kill the tie. The pessimism is completely unfounded ya mentalists!

Come on you boys in Green!!!

Just woke up hungover as hell. Don't care even a little bit. Still buzzing. Put 'em under pressure will pretty much be on a loop today.

I reckon it's time for another song. Football teams releasing songs for tournaments, cup finals, etc is surely so unfashionable it's bound to be retro by now.

David Kelly of the Irish Independent is a clown. He doesn't seem to have much time for Robbie Keane either. Very negative slant taken in some parts of his article today.

Andrey Stepanov compounded an earlier indiscretion on McGeady with an attempted decapitation of Keane. No matter that Keane's efforts had already been of the headless variety.

Continuing to intelligently track the play, he loitered patiently as McGeady and Keane interlinked, the former's shot allowing the captain to find his partner with a speculative lobbed cross.

David Kelly seems reluctant to give Keane any credit bar: Keane's assassin-like predatory instinct was the cue for Ireland's supporters to delve into depths of feeling that have remained reserved for so long and also.

This reporter seems to have knives out for Keane and Trap. What his problem?

I'm delighted we're now likely to qualify while the Euro's are still 16. There is respect in qualifying for the tournament prior to the expansion to 24. A number of countries will be in the bracket of being there because of the expansion. Thankfully we are not like to be one of them! :) Barring a Devon Loch nightmare. :ball:

Whatever gets us through, I don't care. If it's 8-16-24-32 teams, so be it.

The top 2 will qualify out of the group, and a number of 3rd places. In the finals, 16 of the 24 sides, including the 4-best 3rd placers will make the knockout phase, so we have a great chance of going quite far.
