RTE never begin a live game broadcast 2 hours before ko. Even Sky gave that up years ago.

Will Rovers fans struggle for tickets to that one? If I remember the layout rightly, it would just be a case of hopping a few fences and you're on the grassy knoll opposite the seating area.
On a side note, RTE should be showing Shels vs Cork City next Saturday night. It's a winner-takes-all title decider, regardless of the fact that it's the first division it should definitely be on telly and would draw an audience.

You have a point, but RTE want nothing to do with that division. Don't even show highlights ffs.
They're only showing us on Monday, because the title race will be all over then, and they want to be there for it. They had no interest in showing UCD for the past 3 seasons, and no interest in Monday Night games for longer than that. If they had their way, they'd have dragged us all the way back from Salonika to play last night at 7.35pm because, well that's their live game ko time, and they don't do compromise or consideration. And because we've inconvenienced them by having to play on a different night, they've made us play this game at 7pm for their convenience.

Pitch inspection at 16.30
http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
I'll be astonished if it's played. All the approach roads like Clonskeagh Road and the N11 will be choked with slow traffic/flooded (?), hills that people stand on, steps and accessways etc etc.
When is the earliest it can be played at shortest notice...surely not tomorrow or Wednesday..

I'd imagine RTÉ will try and encourage the game to go ahead.
I've never known a UCD home game to be postponed; the pitch is usually in decent nick. That said, the Bowl is in, well, a bowl, and I don't recall such heavy, persistent rain all match-day since we moved. No sign of a let-up either; meteireann.ie (http://www.met.ie/latest/rainfall_radar.asp) suggests it's about to get even heavier.
Edit - yeah, first time for everything it seems. Game off (http://twitter.com/#!/RTEMNS). Dunno when we'll get a chance to play it as the rain seems to be in for the week?
Edit edit - actually, looks like Wednesday's going to be clear; maybe then? Away to Sligo on Friday, so has to be either tomorrow or Wednesday really.

No heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow so with some work on the pitch tomorrow I'd be confident it will go ahead.

More rain expected tomorrow. Mad to reschedule it tomorrow, just to suit the FAI.
Both clubs should have objected. It should be played next Monday. The league will be won by then.

Would UCD need to pay their players for an extra week though if it got rescheduled to beyond the end of the season?

Are those photos real? The first doesn't look like the Bowl (the background doesn't look correct). The second - if that's what the ground was like, why on earth was there a pitch inspection?

Contracts end on the last day of the season. I remember when we were in the Cup semi in 2007, it would have cost us as much to extend the players' contracts as we would have gotten from being in the final in the first place.
If the game were on next Monday though, maybe we could get around it. Rovers are going to beat Galway anyway, so this game isn't really decisive.

This game doesn't really matter, Rovers are gong to win the league on Friday, may as well just leave it and mark it down as a draw

Touché. It's not actually bad, in fairness! I've been down the country all day so wasn't entirely sure what the rain was like (except that Kilmac on the way back up genuinely doesn't look too dissimilar to your photo).

The season ends when the last game is played. In our case it's December.

But at the start of the season clubs would budget for the season to end on Friday. If they get to the cup final or the group stages in Europe then the extra wages that they will have to pay for the extra weeks would be covered by the gate receipts / prize money they would receive for reaching the latter stages of these tournaments.
UCD though wouldn't be getting this extra money (indeed if it was moved to Monday they'll get way less people at the game as Shams will already have won the league by beating Galway so would lose out on the double if they had to pay an extra weeks wages)

They would have budgeted for the season finishing on Friday, but it's not that simple, and things change. Sligo have to play another week, Galway will have to play another week, we have to play until December, and the game was postponed tonight. Only the league season is scheduled to finish on Friday, there's still lots of football to play after it, and lots of contracts have to be reviewed.

Announced last night on MNS that it would be on "live" if it goes ahead tonight. Given the level of rain this morning and history of bad drainage atTolka I would be wary of possible cancellation for Shels game.

Yes but we are are getting extra revenue of some sort from the Cup Final. Galway are getting extra revenue as they will have an additional home game. UCD would not be getting extra revenue if their season was extended due to a home game being postponed.

It'd be inconvenient, but I imagine the club would just pay 16 players for the week. I can't see them folding over a couple of grand.
