The Indo had a big article on the shels game plus colour pictures in the piece and on the next page. They also had two good previews of Bohs and Longfords games.

Nah - don't mind...just wondering if the massive drawing power of the UCD programme was being used incorrectly! ;)

Papers vary in coverage - some are excellent eg Star and Sun.
However my main gripe is that you can choose not to buy the papers that hardly cover the league. You cannot choose to not pay your licence fee for public service broadcasting.
Cork City were playing in Nantes tonight in the biggest sporting event ever for Cork. The result was added as an afterthought at the end of the RTE News.
Back in the dark days of the 60's when a GAA bigot ruled RTE Sport and the 66 World Cup was blanked from our screens (final was eventually shown in September I believe) and the FA Cup final was interrupted for horse racing I thought things would neveer be worse but........ Now RTE do give decent coverage to the national team but then have no choice due to the viewing audience however domestic football is still ignored.
I think as part of their licence fee increases RTE have to now set out a plan of action for the year justifying their licence fee. Don't know when they next have to do this but that would be perfect time to challenge RTE publically cos they can't use foreign football as reason for licence fee increase.

Got a letter in the door yesterday evening, announcing that NTL will be carrying Setanta Sports Irish Sports channle free to air from August 2004.
That coupled with the rumours that talks between the FAI and Niall Cogley with regard to EL coverage are progressing hopefully means that in two months this'll all be moot.

I wonder why they havnt done a deal with Chorus too, it would seem silly to close off a big chunk of the market to themselves.

Someone posted on the Ultras messageboard that Setanta plan to have a two hour EL highlights magazine every saturday morning. Now, the only place I've heard it is on the Ultras messageboard so I've no idea if it's true or not but if it is that will be a massive boost for the league.
Can you pick up this new Setanta channel on Sly?

Next Saturday will be a sell-out. so you could make a good start there.
Good idea, by the way. RTE is not giving the domestic game anywhere enough recognition, which dampens sponsors' potential, which reduces potential income to clubs to invest in new players, which affects the quality of the football, etc, etc.

I hope you get your signatures. Out of curiousity what is the average attendane at a Cork City, Shels, Pats games these day? Been a while since I've been to an EL game. I can find accurate stats anywhere on the web.

i can't really comment on the dub clubs attendances but a cork city game would average 4-5000 people. 7,000 for games with shels and european games. cheers for support

I've merged all the RTE/TV/Petition threads into one, and deleted martin_rules_ie's crossposts. It took me 20 minutes. If another persons crossposts, I'll dole out a ban. If martin_rules_ie does it again, because he's been warned, it will be permanant. No crossposts, no new threads.
