Well nononsence why dont you inform all us non tsdl supporters as to what is going on?Because any league team or club side or players at junior level who complain about playing 2 games in a week are a joke.

passandmove not having a pop at you because your posts are usually good but if your club had 7 or 8 players on the oscar traynor the week before a last 16 of the fai game would you rather the players stay and play a league game together for the club in preparation for next week or leave the team idle and play the oscar game?? no brainer. also clonmel celtic and peake villa i heard were not 2 keen on releasing their players for oscar game and they are totally right as they have fai games next week 2.

No worries republican its all about opinions, but your lads would have a week to recover plus be exposed to a knockout game up in dublin.......ideal preparation!I just think to give a walkover would be wrong,if ye have got the game moved then more luck to yee even if i dont agree with your methods, neways best of luck against sheriff in fai, repeat that munster semi performance from last season in jackman and no side will touch yee.

You should check your facts before you make such a statement. Comments like that only give the likes of High Tackle etc get on their usual banter of anti-TSDL and anti-St.Michaels. To the genuine TSDL supporters let me say, as absolute fact, the TSDL have not given a walkover. The F.A.I. know that, the Dublin A.U.L. know that.

Totally agree with Nononsense, all hightackle does is get his big spoon out and stir... especially when it comes to St. Michaels - his anti st. michaels comments are constant and thank god usually none of us here on TSDL thread take the bait. Give it a rest and unless you know full facts, dont comment, simple as. Everybody on here, goes on about Oscar Traynor Cup being a great honour etc, I was game last Thursday week in Cooke Park and very poor crowd at it.. dont think this competition is as important to Clubs as people think.

Well folks the Oscar Traynor is not taken serious here in Dublin either. Its more of an inconvenience.Weve been told that the game is off for definate and weve a Liddy Cup game on Saturday.Weve only 1 player on the Oscar Traynor squad and the rule in Dublin is you have to release players for the Oscar Traynor, but u dont have to play a domestic game.Nobody cares whether its a walkover or not and I speak for most clubs.Weve players going away as they were told there was no games this Sunday because of the Oscar Traynor game, thus were 3 players down for our game this week but are still going ahead with it as a prep for FAI game V Carrick.

Did TSDL give a walk over , i hope so because it wouldnt be fair if that fixture was refixed to suit TSDL, as i couldnt see any other county getting away with that, whos on the limerick oscar trainer team from Pike are they going to play in the competition.

I'm not sure what u mean by a re fixture because from what I believe there was no official fixture as the tsdl had said they had full fixture list this weekend so I believe the issue was a lack of communication between all parties

Thought barry scored, time to give someone else the reigns, another failure by the management team, with that squad of players at his disposure there is no way roscommon should be beaten limerick,no disrespect to roscommon, maybe the pike manager should step in there, what do people think?

I have to agree with hotspur considine should have been asked to take that job , so not entirely Aidan ryans fault the LDMC have to take a share of the blame as well, Aidan has done hes best and i dont think people should fault him for that, the future doesnt look good for hartnet sub again today cant see him getting a call to the irish squad.

Congratulations to the Roscommon and District league on a brilliant win in the Quarter Finals of the Oscar Traynor Cup. They beat a Limerick league side who won the Oscar Traynor Cup on six previous occasions and only a last minute goal denied them their seventh last season. Great credit to Manager Henry Loughnane his assistant Peter Tiley and their outstanding panel of players for battling all the way before coming out on top in a penalty shoot out. They had already knocked out Sligo Leitrim League the Mayo League and the Inishowen League to reach the Quarter Finals. It’s a fitting reward for their efforts and with a solid defence and midfield and forwards who scored in every game they played they need have no fear of the Kerry League whom they play in Tralee. It’s a big boost for the Roscommon and District league and shows their players can compete with any League in the Country.

I dont think he would take the limerick job, but mrman im not a pike supporter or lover but you cant take away what he has won and that earns respect i think you might have a personal issue, i think if he was manager of the present oscar trainer team they would be in the semis, the players that were made available should have won that match and i think aidan ryan has put in alot of effort for the last few years its a job nobody wants.

Lost there 1st game to Sligo 3 - 2 away, Bet the mayo league 2-0 at home and bet the Innishowen League away 3 - 1, We have our work cut out against Kerry as 4 of the starting team against Limerick are out, 2 out injured and 2 due to immigration, but hopefully the panel is strong enough to withstand the blow. Does anybody know is the other semi between Aul and Wexford on this weekend.

Kerry DL v Roscommon DL match previews!

Attitude holds key to taking care of Kerry

A PLACE In the Oscar Traynor Cup final for the first time in their history is the prize dangling in front of the Roscommon and District League when they make the long trip south to Tralee to tackle the Kerry League in Sunday’s last four clash. It’s a measure of the giant strides the league is making that Roscommon are appearing in their second semi-final in four seasons.

Such a scenario would have been unthinkable a few years ago. But the league’s attitude to the competition has changed dramatically in such a short space of time. Current League Secretary Gerry Tully shifted the goalposts in 2009. Roscommon’s rollercoaster ride included a 3-1 success against the Tipperary Southern and District League before they came up short 2-1 against the Cork AUL in the semi-final.

At the time Tully wasn’t into the notion of a moral victory and vowed that Roscommon would be back sooner rather than later. Now Henry Loughnane has taken up the baton and his side will make the journey to Kerry fuelled by the belief that Roscommon can take another giant stride forward at least.

Perhaps, Roscommon’s name is on the cup. Things looked bleak when they lost 3-2 to the Sligo/Leitrim League in the first round. Ronan Curran and John Tierney ignited a Roscommon comeback but Loughnane admits that he was forced to do a lot of soul searching after that game.

“I questioned the team’s character (after the Sligo/Leitrim) game and thankfully I got the response I wanted,” he reflected.

A comfortable 2-0 success against the Mayo League still left Roscommon depending on the result between Mayo and Sligo/Leitrim to go their way. Sligo/Leitrim were in pole position as a result of their result against Roscommon but the Mayo League stunned the men from the north-west with a 4-1 victory.

The result gave Roscommon a reprieve and it was just the incentive Loughnane’s charges needed to set off on another magical run.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of luck along the way and we certainly got ours when the Mayo League won,” continued the Ballinasloe Town player.

A trip to Buncrana for a play-off against the Inishowen League yielded a wonderful 3-1 victory. The goals came from Ballymoe’s Colm Killacky (2) and prolific Ballinasloe Town striker Liam Lynch. A 1-1 draw followed against a highly fancied Limerick League in the quarter-final. Killackey was, once again, on target but St. John’s Athletic goalkeeper Aidan Fallon proved to be the hero when he almost single-handedly kept Roscommon in the contest. Roscommon prevailed in a penalty shootout, with Fallon making a number of crucial stops.

“I think that game showed how far we’ve come. Limerick looked to be a far better team on paper but it didn’t work out like that. It’s all down to attitude, workrate and will to win,” acknowledged Loughnane.

The manager is joined by Peter Tiley (St. John’s Athletic) and Ciaran Keighery (Ballinasloe Town), who is the team’s kit man. Loughnane puts Roscommon’s newly -found prosperity in the competition down to the quality of player the league is producing nowadays and hopes that the good times will continue.

“In fairness a lot of the credit has to go to the clubs and the coaching they’re doing in the background. Some of the players play in different positions for their clubs but they’re able to adapt to the positions I want them to play in. We’ve a system in place, and it suits us,” explained Loughnane.

Roscommon will travel to Tralee on Saturday, get accustomed with their new surroundings before making a bold bid for a place in the final.

“It would be the icing on the cake if we could get to the final. It would bring through other play-ers and show them what can be done if they’re willing to work hard.

“We’ve a lot of young players who are willing to listen. They work hard for each other. They’re looking forward to the game and, hopefully, will savour the moment,” he remarked.

Loughnane admits that he doesn’t know a whole lot about Sunday’s opposition but he expects them to be physical. He’s also aware that there will be a fair degree of pressure on the home side to perform.

“Kerry are the home team, so they’ve a lot to lose. But I’ve seen where attitude has got us up to now. We’ll just worry about ourselves and see where it takes us,” he concluded.

Kerry face strong Roscommon outfit in Traynor semi-final
KERRY V ROSCOMMON

When: Sunday, February 26 Where: Mounthawk Park Time: 1pm

KERRY face a formidable task at Mounthawk Park next Sunday when they play Roscommon in the semi- final of the Oscar Traynor Cup.

The side have performed very well in the competition so far winning their group in the initial stages and then defeating the Leinster Senior League in a dramatic penalty shoot out in Dublin just a few weeks ago. The magnitude of their task can be evaluated by the fact that Roscommon defeated a very strong Limerick side in their quarter-final.

However, manager Timmy Lynch has a good squad of players at his disposal and they are working very hard for him in every game. He will be waiting anxiously to see if team captain Peter Mccarthy will be fit to play as he had to retire after picking up an injury when he was on duty for Killarney Celtic on Sunday.

The Kerryman spoke to Mccarthy after this game and he said he is optimistic that he will have shook off his injury by then. The injury occurred when he twisted his anxle trying to get the ball. He says he is really looking forward to the big game and is confident that the team can defeat Roscommon.

Team manager Timmy Lynch is also upbeat regarding Kerry chances as he says he has a very strong squad. "The side showed great character in the quarter-final against the Leinster Senior League to take it to extra time and produced the goods when the chips were down," he commented.

"We have had regular training sessions over the past few weeks and the squad are very excited about the big game. We have lost two semi-finals in the past so this is the time to make it third time lucky. Most of the squad have a lot of experience in the Oscar Traynor Cup and that should stand to them in this big game.

"We have the quality of players to win the game but we must be at our best to do the job. Roscommon must be a handy side as they defeated a strong Limerick side in the quarterfinal. We know they have an excellent goalie and many of the squad are highly experienced in these kind of competitions.

"We will have Maurice O'rahilly and James Sugrue available for this game and that will considerably strengthen the squad. A great comaraderie has been built up within the squad during our games and training sessions and the lads are well focused for the game.

"Playing at home will be a big advantage and we would like to see a big crowd turning up at Mounthawk Park to watch the game and give us that extra bit of lift we require."

Everone associated with the game around the county wish Timmy and his squad the very best of luck on Sunday. Should Kerry win on Sunday they will meet either Wexford or Dublin AUL in the final.

Could well be Roscommons year, but I reckon this is Kerrys best chance ever - the team is the strongest in years. They have a few Dynamos a-championship players in the squad as well. Should be a cracker between two very good sides!

All teams ended on same points, mayo and ros also had same goal difference, 4 for 3 against, so it went down to the head to head result of Mayo and ros which ros won 2 nil. I dont know what would of happened if Sligo had the same goal difference.

I think there was a bit of confusion at the time, if I recall correctly Mayo thought they had progressed by beating Sligo/Leitrim with 3 goals in hand. think the table finished:

Roscommon 4 3 1 3
Mayo 4 3 1 3

Wexford Preview:
Wexford face tough task

WEXFORD’S OSCAR Traynor team will travel to Clonshaugh on Sunday next where they will take on trophy holders Athletic Union League in the semi-final of this season’s competition.

Wexford, who were winners two years ago, will face a big challenge against the Dublin side which is backboned by Sheriff YC players with nine in the AUL squad.

Ballymun, Kilbarrack, Sandyhill and St. Kevin’s Boys are other well known clubs who have players in Peter Lynch’s panel.

Wexford will be without striker Paul Murphy who is suspended and Tomas Mahon who is due to be wed at the weekend will be another absentee.

Another squad member, Dylan Mernagh, is ruled out, having recently signed for Waterford United and New Ross Celtic midfielder Anthony O’Connor is also doubtful.

Team manager John Godkin has arranged a practice game against a Wexford Youths FC selection at Ferrycarrig Park tonight (Tuesday) with a view to calling new players into his squad.

Despite the absentees, the Wexford squad is still a formidable one, and if they play as well as they are capable of, they will be more than a match for the AUL and are well capable of claiming a place in the final.

The big game kicks-off at 2pm.

There was no playoff or coin toss. Roscommon won due to the head to head record. After they beat Mayo 2-0. If u have a copy of the Oscar Traynor rules can you post a link?

A comfortable 2-0 success against the Mayo League still left Roscommon depending on the result between Mayo and Sligo/Leitrim to go their way. Sligo/Leitrim were in pole position as a result of their result against Roscommon but the Mayo League stunned the men from the north-west with a 4-1 victory.

All 3 teams finished on 3 points in that Group- did they play off?[/QUOTE]

Ross victory over Mayo was anything but comfortable.
Mayo created enough of chances to draw or win the game including a peno where the keeper made an easy save.

Mayo had the same problem v Sligo, great chances to score 6 but they didn't and their OUT.

Good Luck to Ross

Kerry 2-0 Roscommon

Two goals from Peter McCarthy secured Kerry's qualification for their second Oscar Traynor Cup Final (they lost their first to Kilkenny in '97). They now face an away tie against Dublin AUL or Wexford in their quest to secure the first ever national title for any adult Kerry side.

Great result by Kerry, deserved the win.
Have never won this competition, would be a great boost to Kerry soccer if we win it now :)

It probably depends what date suits the Dubs and my advice to Kerry League is, if it suits the Dubs and it is fixed for that date, play it or they will take another walk-over - just ask the Tipperary lads. And, by the way, is there a venue decided? Would be wonderful if it was played in Kerry to promote the game and boost this ailing competition, but my money is on a Dublin venue. Hope I'm wrong and the best of luck to Kerry League who got to the final on merit.

Ye gave the walkover, what did ye expect, the AUL were willing to play that weekend and the LDL also played that weekend so ye have no one else to blame only yere league or the players that refused to play in it,ye taught ye would get away with it but ye got burnt, get over it.remember the AUL had 5 teams playing FAI that weekend and got on with it.

And if i remember correctly nononsense, you were the one who said under no circumstances would TSDL be giving a walkover and they weren't being expelled from the comp, how wrong were you on both counts,

Thought barry scored, time to give someone else the reigns, another failure by the management team, with that squad of players at his disposure there is no way roscommon should be beaten limerick,no disrespect to roscommon, maybe the pike manager should step in there, what do people think?aidan ryan should call it a day now he had his chance and let it be someone else next year with some new ideas and maybe some new players geting a chance.
