Ventre first booking was harsh, Second was correct ridiculous dive. Peno Harsh

Agreed. How Sligo fans thought that Ventre didn't dive is beyond me. Reminiscent of this man.

And Quigley?

And Quigley?
It was a soft penalty - but he was fouled.

He won an easy penalty when Russell foolishly pushed him. If it happened outside the box with a free kick awarded there would not be a peep out of anyone. More the fool John Russell.

And Quigley?

Hands were all over Quigley and there was a tug on his shirt. Technically a penalty but they're not always given.

I'd have been dissapointed if it was given against my team but I'd be more annoyed at the defender for giving away a needless penalty.

Have to say after watching MNS my opinion has changed, McHugh never touched Ventre, it was a complete attempt to win a penalty. The ref got it right at the time. Very sharp observation. Our penalty was maybe soft, but unlike the Ventre call, the defender made direct contact with the player and the ref had no option.

Almost sounds like someone battering a tin shed rather than a drum there. Poor atmosphere really. Seemed a decent game though.

EDIT, on another note, one of the most hilariously bad dives I have ever seen from Ventre.

Dive by ventre and deserved to go,but should have been a peno for definite handball. dundalk peno was soft but bad defending.
Pats 2nd was a cracker, and the ref an embarrasment to LOI but symptomatic of the standard in this league
Galway should just stop.

I'm biased here of course, but once Quigley knew the ball was going away from him and felt Russell's contact he went down. A dive is a dive, whether it's Ventre, Quigley or Jim.

.. what PC said
Ref in Pats game should not be let near a pitch again. When will refs realise people pay in to see players centre stage not them ? cracking second for Pats but great performance from UCD

If Sligo want to win the title they have got to tighten up a bit. Ref not the reason they conceded penalty - bad defending was. Dive from Ventre was comical, for a player on a yellow it was crazy. Galway are giving "crap" a bad name at this stage :(

I'd like to change my answer to the complete opposite of what I originally said.

Seen our goals against column lately?
We were missing McGuinness and Keane against Dundalk and were down to ten men for a long spell.

No it's not.

Ventre decided to dive when he was three yards from the defender. He dived so early that it took a major effort on his part to even reach the defender.

Quigley was pulled and dragged and went down after contact.

Big difference

There are some similarities between the two - in the first Ventre was an idiot, in the second Russell was an idiot.

Two players missing sure thats nothing compared to our injury woes all season. We where missing 4 first teamers Hawkins, McDonnell, Murphy and Osborne. Then both Kerr and Duffy who are in the reserves but make the match day squads where missing aswell. This is at a time when we are actually getting players back from injury. Byrne made his return today and Maher is only back after a lengthy period out. Others have been injured for periods this season aswell.

Russell pulled at him, then Quigley shrugged him off. He then felt second contact and fell over. A dive's a dive.

So what you're saying is that Russell fouled Quigley... twice?

Of course. But Connolly only saw it the second time.

Exactly, and that would explain why Dundalk's results have been poor enough all season.

So he fouled him but it was a dive??

I always thought a dive was when a player goes down when there has been no contact?

If the player goes down then it is generally seen that way by the ref, whether it is right or wrong.
