And there would have been 3 more but for the insane ticketing arrangements.
We headed up to the the ticket booth at the bottom of Lansdowne Road to be told that the upper tier tickets were sold out. They clearly weren't.
That the lessons of the previous games hadn't been learned is staggering. To have 33000 empty seats at the stadium rather than reduce the prices is scandalous. I've never walked away from a stadium before and the amount that were around us that did was astounding for an Ireland game.

Gobsmacked at this. A few years ago for the Serbia friendly at Croker (might have been Traps first match) I turned up and got in for free. And that was with a relatively full house in a bigger stadium

No way Serbia was a 'full house', or anything like....

The irony is knew of at least 10 spares for this game, but am guessing these ran into the hundreds, if not thousands?
And even when you try to sell tickets cheap, or even give them away, people are generally morons about this.

Sure I came into work and a mate said "Uh, I had two spares didn't think anyone would want them."

Not to worry.

@boovidge, The Serbia game was no where near sold out. Is say there were about 60000 at it... sure we had the 'pick' of seats in the Davin.

Hang on. Is 60k out of a possible 70k not a "relatively full house" (boovidge's exact words) when compared to 25k (max) out of a possible 50k.

I'm backing boovidge's choice of words.

There was 42,500 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/7418887.stm) at the Serbia match.

still looks relatively full in the video, certainly compared to Aviva yesterday. Anyway the point is that the Serbia game had a decent attendance, and wasn't the final of a tournament which had been ridiculed for its low attendances. Therefore there was far less of a reason from a PR point of view to give me a free ticket on the door, which is why i'm surprised that they turned away paying customers yesterday.

I suppose your right in that sense. However firstly I (foolishly) hazard a guess at the sixty and secondly in my mind Croker is always a capacity of 82300 which I forget is not the case for soccer matches. Also Boovidge's point about getting a free ticket is moot as I didn't know the circumstances as to how he came by it or whether he just knew a lad on the turnstile etc.
The point that is being argued here is that prices should've been reduced for this game and also in that sense as well it would have helped if those of us who wanted to avail of a cheaper ticket should have been able to do so rather than being told that they were unavailable when there was clearly extra capacity in the upper tiers.

Didn't you have to buy a ticket for the Serbia game along with a ticket to the Brazil game the previous February?

I attended both matches. Can't remember if I got the tickets at the same time. Doubt I did.

Got em through the club anyhow.

Remember that was the 'official' crowd v.Serbia, but again absolutely rakes of spares floating about.

And that the Guards got twitchy when we trying to sell tickets for €10 outside the ticket office or even give them away, whilst people were queuing to buy for 4 times that price...Eejits.

Connolly scored some important goals at the tail-end of the season for Southampton to help get them promoted. Perhaps an Indian summer....

Was actually only joking about Connolly (and the rest actually) though I'd love to see him back and he will be playing Championship next season.
I think he's too old though to get a call from Trap no matter how good he plays. Trap's hatchet has fallen on him I reckon.
Plus we're not exactly in a bad state striker wise. I think Folan and Stokes have found their way out of the team for the forseeable future and in steps Cox who looks more than capable. With a strikeforce of Keane, Long, Doyle, Cox and maybe Best we're doing just fine

Sammon will have a full Premier League season next season as well, and Noel Hunt is still on the fringes of the squad.

Walters too has looked decent in the Pl this season and I think practicalities will see him tussle with Best for the "Doyle battering ram replacement" role.
