Brilliant Bees Book Premier Spot
Kilmore 2 Castlebar Celtic B
The Michael ‘Scobie Moran and Shane Bennett managed Castlebar Celtic B team held their nerve to clinch promotion to the Premier A league following a rip roaring game against a determined Kilmore side who also needed the points to avoid be dragged into a relegation battle. Celtic were two points clear of their nearest rivals Moy Villa and needed all three points to be sure of promotion and that is just what they got in game that was more like a Cup final than a league match. It was the Hoops who opened up the brightest with the midfield quartet of Adam McGowan, Michael Ahern, Wayne Howley and the impressive Michael Padden dominating the early exchanges. The away side deservedly took the lead on 10 minutes following good work from Stephen Jennings who set up Mark Rowland and his finish was from the top drawer. Kilmore reacted positively to this set back and put the Celtic defence of Brian McNulty, Ronnie Staunton, Adrian O’Brien and Eamon Crean under tremendous pressure and they were rewarded midway through the half when one of their strikers following an unstoppable shot to the corner of Joe McDonnell’s net. It was the Hoops who went in at half time one up when Mark Rowland was on hand to tap the ball home after the Kilmore keeper had parried a Stephen Jennings strike. The second half was an all action affair and it saw the introduction of Declan Levelle and Terry Maughan who made an immediate impact when coolly putting Celtic 3-1 in front after being set up by Michael Padden. With 20 minutes remaining it was all Kilmore and they pulled a goal back following another stunning strike and the home side had taught that they had levelled the game with 10 minutes remaining only for a wonderful double save by Joe McDonnell which earned his side all three points. This promotion marked off a wonderful week for the club after the A team had clichéd the Super League and the women’s team capturing the Mayo Cup.

First cousins. Both played with Glenhest. Mark would have played youths with Celtic then went to Glenhest for a few seasons and then came back to Celtic 5 to 6 years back. Chris joined when the club joined the U-20 League 4 years ago. Would not consider Mark a local.

The John Ralph, Ioseph O’Reilly and Ger & Ronan O’Boyle managed U-16 side have been crowned Mayo Premier League Champions following a deserved 5-3 victory over an excellent Claremorris side. The Hoops knowing that a victory tonight would clinch the title with one game remaining started in whirlwind fashion and poured forward at every opportunity. With the superb midfield of Darren Murray, Mark Howley, Philip Ruddy and Noe Baba controlling the middle of the park it was only a matter of time before the home side took the lead. The scorer was from the unlikely source of fullback Conor Ludden whose looping shot nestled in the corner of the visitors net after 10 minutes. Celtic went two up after a well taken goal by the impressive Philip Ruddy. It was Claremorris who came more into the game at the latter end of the half but were finding in difficult to breakdown the stubborn home defence of Adam Chambers, Conor Ludden, Colm Quinn, Mathew Ruane and Sean Conlon. The visitors did pull a deserved gaol back at half-time to leave the game in the melting pot going into the second half. It was the Hoops who once again stated the second half on top with the superb front two of Jason Hunt and Cathal Lisibach causing the home defence a lot of problems. A fine Noe Baba goal gave the home a 3-1 lead but Claremorris refused to buckle and replied 10 minutes later with another well worked goal. The introduction of Dylan Ralph, Stephen McDermott and Darragh Coll added much needed fresh legs and they all made significant impacts when introduced. Cathal Lisibach got the goal his play deserved and when Noe Baba made 5-2 the title was secured. Claremorris did get a third but it was too little to late. This was the clubs third Premier League title captured this season following on from the U-13 & U-17. Well done to all involved.

Well done to Jeremy and the Women's squad on capturing the Mayo League title (5th league title of the season for the club) and completing the league & cup double. A Katie Walsh 96th minute free kick snatched a deserved draw with title contenders Ballyglass who needed to win to retain the title. Only down side was knee injury picked up by Emma Mullin. Celtic U-18 A & B teams were involved in a great Quigley Cup game with the A team winning 5-3 in front a big crowd. U-14 team also beat S&F 6-3 in the league. Good weekend all round for the club

The Boys U16 side had an impressive 11-1 win over Corrib Celtic in the SFAI Cup today and with new signing Irish International Liam Flatley from Manulla to be added to the team they will be hoping to have a good run in this competition. Boys U18 Bees were defeated 5-1 by Partry and U18 were given a walkover by Claremorris which is disappointing. Good weekend overall for the club

U12 Girl's team have gone 6 pts clear on top of the Mayo League from Kilmore & Manulla after receiving a walkover from Claremorris who were unable to field a team this weekend. Celtic still has to play both teams as well as Killala and Conn Rangers and hopefully can lift the clubs first Girl's League title of the season and following in the foot steps of the women's team.

Good weekend for youths teams with the U17 hitting a very good Ballyheane for five coming out on top 5-2, U12B with possibly the result of the weekend when knocking out Division league leaders Claremorris 4-3 in the Mayo Cup. U-14 girls had a good win over a gallant Partry side (great set up for a club which was formed in 2004). U12A advanced in the Mayo Cup after an entertaining game against Celtic C.

I would say Manulla would be insulted to be classified as a small club. The Manulla team Liam Flatley left had two players from Ballina Town and Ballyglass and one from S&F and Swinford in it. We as a club will always welcome new players and we have no problem when players move on to a higher level. That’s the name of the game. Some people would like the GAA rule. How many of the top clubs in England have local lads playing in them, this is the way football operates like it or not.

Best of luck to Jeremy Dee and the Women's team in the new FAI Bus Eireann National Women's league which kicks off on Sunday away to Wexford Youths, also the best of luck in the Mary Walsh Cup Final. Good win for the seniors in the FAI Cup at the weekend and now face a tricky tie away to the in form S&F Utd.

I think the player Liam Flatley who came from so called smaller club you refered them as, Had no choice, I thing its called" big ego" (farther who insisted he should play for a bigger club)
Hate the idea, every time player who opps to play for Celtic,is acused of persusing the player. Yet there is no foundation for your suggestion.

maybe player wanted to move in this case but when ya have bigger clubs asking players to sigh for them and then county and provisional coachs telling players to move to biggermore succesfull clubs(if ya pick out best players in each club you going to be succesfull),doesnt give small clubs a chance to compete,(maybe i am wrong)

Bad day for the 18s in Renmore on Sunday. 2-0 up but lost out 3-2 after a late winner in the Conn Cup.

17s made it a better week with a strong performance v Strand Celtic in the 17s FAI Youth Cup. Great passing from the lads and never looked like they weren't controlling the game/ Game finished 4-1. Conn Rangers away in a very tough 3rd round tie.

Good day today with the men’s team advancing in the FAI Junior Cup following a hard fought but deserved victory over a determined S&F side. From the reports I got it was all Celtic but we just could not break down the well marshalled home defence and they took the lead with a ricochet shot and it looked if they would hold on for a famous win, that was until Mackey levelled the game with 10 minutes to go to force extra-time. Dec Flynn got the winner. Heard next up is away to Newcastle West which will be difficult. Women side remain unbeaten with a 2-2 draw against Cork Women FC, which was a great result considering who was missing. Goals scored by Aileen Gilroy and Shaunagh Jackson.

Not to sure were you are coming from Pinero,to suggest that Provisional/County coach are telling players to move to bigger clubs is wide of the mark.Coaches are only concerned that they remain fit and play or train when requested.
